  1. I have drank twice since surgery (in moderation) and both times enjoyed flavored vodka with water and a splash of cranberry juice. I have not gained at all, in fact both weeks that I did have a night out, I lost more those weeks.
  2. Tabbouleh salad is amazing! Greek cous cous is just as yummy also!! Mmmmm
  3. I went to the seminar on April 21, 2012 and my surgery was September 27, 2012. Depends on what your insurance requirements are.
  4. Goals to reach by December 31st, 2012: 1. Be in Onederland 2. Be on week 6 of Couch to 5k program 3. Be able to rock a little black dress for New Year’s Eve (without wondering if I am making a fool of myself) I figured if I put them out here into LapBandTalk world, I would hold myself more accountable! What are everyone else's goals to hopefully attain by the end of the year?
  5. I have always been an organic, whole-grain, whole foods type of girl. I, other than home-made Italian bread, cannot remember the last slice of white bread that I ate prior to surgery. My 13 year old son has known since he was a toddler to grab "brown bread" mommy at the grocery store. However after surgery I cannot tolerate wheat bread! Even the smallest, most well-chewed piece gets stuck! However I can eat white bread with absolutely no problem. Wheat gets stuck if its toasted, not toasted, no matter what brand, thickness, etc. I don't eat a lot of bread as it is, but I just find this so strange! Anyone else notice weird changes like this after surgery?

    Your Last Supper......

Sushi and asparagus! I absolutely LOVE grilled asparagus! I read a lot of posts of not being able to eat it after surgery, my nutritionist said I probably wouldn't be able to tolerate it after surgery as well. Happy to say I can tolerate it well chewed! But everything is well chewed now!

  9. I have yet to figure out how to add people on MyFitnessPal on my phone?? I am on there as well Sbowerman969, if you know how to add people, will you add me?
  10. It does feel fantastic!! Congrats on your weight loss as well!! Wow a 3 cc fill, I can definitely feel my 1.5 cc fill, I can't imagine what 3 cc's feels like! Keep in touch!
  11. I went today for my first post-op appt. and first fill. I also had the burning around the port (I was also banded 9/27) I asked my surgeon about it and he said it was probably just the muscles healing as he sewed the port into the muscles. He said ice might help. I got a 1.5 cc fill today. He said the first fill would hurt the most. It wasn't awful, but I am happy to hear that one will be the most painful! I am down 21.5 pounds and cleared to work out again! I have missed my Pilates so much! Hope everyone else is doing well!
  12. A heating pad was my best friend for the first week after surgery! It helped so much! Good luck with your journey!

    1St Fill This Morning

I am on liquids for 24 hours and mushies for 24. I am still in the soft food phase of my post-op diet anyways so it doesn't change much except for the 24 hours of liquid. It's so cold and miserable here from Hurricane Sandy (power is out at my office so it's an unexpected day off!) the only thing that sounds good anyways is soup!

    1St Fill This Morning

Oops new phone, I hit send by accident! Anyways, I have lost 21.5 pounds! Surgeon said I am doing very well! I was happy to hear that as I feel like a lot of threads that I read, everyone seems to be losing more much faster. I also got my first fill today, 1.5 cc fill. He had me drink Water make sure it would go down, it did. Now that I am home though, it seems much tighter than at the office! Is this normal? As this is my first fill since the original 2.5 cc fill during surgery. I don't know what normal feels like. Any advice is appreciated!
  16. Yes, swimming was my love! Good for you with the running, I have never been able to run long-distances, even in the best shape that I was ever in. Not sure why! That is amazing to have run marathons! Stupid injuries!!! Good to meet you too! Keep in touch!

    Carb-Aholics, Please Come In.

I, also, was a carb-aholic. I was raised in an Italian family, where pasta and bread were plentiful! It also meant bread was a staple at pretty much every meal. Nothing was more comforting to me than a nice fresh loaf of Italian bread. I am 4 weeks out from surgery today and I can tell you that now, I can walk through the bakery at the grocery store without batting an eye. I don't know at what point of this journey it happened, probably during the 8 day pre-op liquid diet. My body stopped craving carbs and even better the thought of them just wasn't as appealing anymore. My surgeon has said from day one, after the initial healing stage (2 months of different phases liquid, full liquids, mushies, soft, etc.) that I can eat whatever I want, as long as it works for me. It is up to each of us to make the correct decisions on what we want to eat. So essentially, we are not "not allowed" to eat pasta, rice, or bread, it is just determined by if we can tolerate it....and if we want to still eat it. I have no desire at this point. I really believe once in a different mind frame, we are all strong enough and have enough will-power to get over those carbs! I am sure at some point in my life, I will sit down to a healthy optioned, correct portion plate of pasta again! You will do fine, start rotating the carbs out of your diet now, before you "have" to for your pre-op diet. Then you will feel in control of it, rather than feeling like it was taken away from you! You will be happy that you did. Good luck in your journey, from one recovering carb-aholic to another
  18. How is everyone doing? I am 4 weeks out today, I can't believe time has flown by this quickly! I am down 21 pounds, but feel like the weight loss has slowed this last week. I am trying very hard to get all of my protein in, some days it seems very easy, others not so much! I finally am feeling like myself again, other than never being able to sleep. Anyone else notice their sleep patterns have changed? Walking anywhere from 1-4 miles about 5 days a week (depending on how much time I have to walk). Staying under 800 calories a day like I was instructed by my surgeon. First follow up (and I believe first fill) is next week on the 30th. I have lost quite a few inches off of my body so far, which is quite encouraging! I am so ready to start amping up the work outs, I miss strength training and Pilates most of all. How long did it take for everyone's surgeons to clear them for more intense work outs? I hope all my fellow September bandsters are doing well! This site has really helped with a ton of questions and encouragement.
  19. Thanks guys This site has helped a lot so far! I am excited to make new friends/support!
  20. I am back in the office today for a full day for the first time since surgery on 9/27. I am exhausted! My starting weight (and all time high weight) was 240, surgery day was 234, weighed in this morning at 222.3. I feel great, other than being tired and still sore at the port site, otherwise just trying to plug away at the protein. Having a hard time getting enough as I am never hungry. I am 33 years old and have been having issues with weight loss/dieting for ten years, since a shoulder injury took me out of competitive swimming. Kidney issues arose through the years and I think the more miserable I felt, the less active I became. I look forward to being able to run around with my 13 year old son again!
  21. Hi, I was banded 9/27, can you add me to the list. Sending out friend requestes on Myfitnesspal today. My name is sbowerman969 on there : )

    New Bander

I am still using the Bariatric Fushion from pre-op diet in the Cinnamon Bun flavor. I mix it with soy milk. In the morning I heat it up and it's almost as good as my old morning of coffee! I also found that the Ensure Protien drinks are yummy! I have the unflavored Unjury protien powder too, that I just add to soup. I still am having a hard time getting my protien in though, with all of those options. I am just not hungry!
