Who's In Need Of A Mentor?

You will also find yourself becoming more open to talk about it as you progress and lose weight. People notice, they ask. Most don't know how to ask because sometimes they are afraid you might be sick. I laugh at how awkward people are sometimes! I just tell them! I have had nothing but good comments from everyone, especially once my mom got on board. She was the only difficult one!

    October 2012 Bandsters

Mara, you can set MyFitnessPal to be where ever you want it to be. I am at the same amount of calories you are. I just ignore their message and concentrate on what I am eating, when and how often. It took me a long time to not eat by a schedule and only eat when hungry. Drinking a lot more then I ever did!

    Having Trouble After Fill...

Whitedobe, don't be discouraged. Liquids should not be a problem. Wait until you get to the mushies and then real food before you know how it is. You definitely do not want to be too tight. You just need to let your stomach settle before you test it with food. Good luck!
  5. This may happen more then once. I have been at a stand still for two weeks now. Nothing lost, but nothing gained. I just continue on and will wait for the ay for a chunk to fall! I have my nine month post op visit next week. No fills planned as I still don't get hungry. I'll ask if I need to change anything. Just keep on following the rules.

We are here for you! Ask away. It is an exciting and scary time.
  8. I don't eat a lot of any bread just because it is so filling. Seems you are doing the right thing.i would really watch how much you are eating and what it is. Some things just may not like you. Make sure you are really chewing everything. If it doesn't get better, you need to see if you need a slight unfill.

    October 2012 Bandsters

Don't forget that even if you eat out you can get good mushies. All restaurants have blenders and will chop up what ever you want. I used to get fish or scrambled eggs and mash them with a fork. Or any meat chopped really fine with broth or mayo. Good luck!

    Two Questions

My dr does not have me monitoring as long as I get 3 oz of protein and veg/fruit when I eat. He only wants me eating when hungry and no liquid protein any more. That means 2 meals a day these days. Each dr/nut has different recommendations so check with yours.

    Stitches Staples ?

    Mine were all disable.
  14. Make sure you are eating your protein first. If you are eating any carbs, they should go last. I can't even imagine eating white bread at all. That would be immediate blockage. Are you logging what you eat so you really know how much you are eating? Are you eating more then a cup of food? When was your last fill? How long is it for you between meals?

    October Bandsters?

It is normal to be nervous! You guys will do fine. This is the hard part. You will be so excited and starting a new chapter in your life when you wake up! Good luck to all the October babies!

    Bc/bs Federal

I am BCBS Fed in Florida too! Once I finished all of the requirements and the office turned in the application, I received my approval in 48 hours. I am in the Jacksonville area. I paid about $2200 out of pocket for all with the Standard options. Good luck!

    Straws

I think it just gets you too much air while you drink.
  18. Good luck everyone! This is the hard part. Remember to keep drinking your Water between all of the Protein or other items allowed on your preop. Get used to getting 64 ounces of liquids each day. So don't wait too long to get started in the morning. Even the water will help you feel full. I liked Bariatric Advantage choc mixed with Fortress super adv whey protein vanilla and strawberry (from Walmart). I mixed and matched in a small blender. I also liked the premixed Premier Protein choc from Sam's Club. Keep up the great work. I am out almost nine months and down 122 pounds. You can do it!

    Social Situations

It is a personal choice you have to make. I eat out all the time and I have a social job, so there is no shyness allowed for me. I just say it like it is (for me) and I have had no problems or rude comments from anyone. They will just have to get over it because what I am doing is for me. It's all about me! Now days, most everyone is begging for my leftovers! Do what is comfortable for you. Most restaurants also have a nutrion menu if you ask. I did that a lot until I learned what was ok to eat. You would be really surprised if you looked at one! A lot of restaurants will make your choice healthier if you just ask. I always ask them to use cooking spray instead of oils and no added butters or sauces. It does work, just takes some adjustments to make on your part. I still love to eat out with friends, they even let me taste stuff now!

    Refined Cooked Cereal

Do you like oatmeal? If so make it a little runny. I made scrambled eggs and just mashed them with a fork, or cottage cheese and mashed it with a fork. I made fish and mashed it with a fork. You can also try anything you like and put it in a blender to puree it, just add a little Miracle Whip or chicken broth to make it moist. If you like soups, you can try any creamed soup and strain it. You just don't want any strings or chunks in your stomach yet to get stuck or irritate you stomach while it is healing. I loved cream of tomato soup. I drank it every day!

    Having Trouble After Fill...

Remember, you should be able to drink anything! And, you shouldn't even feel your band inside you! It is about making large bites hard to go through, not the small bites you are supposed to be eating. Any liquid, soft serve ice cream or yogurt should go through and are actually excess calories because they have no value. Unless you add something chunky to yogurt, it IS a slider! You need to be focused on how you get to wher the substantial protein goes down and stays there for a couple hours.

    Need A Pick Me Up...

Hang in there! Ask questions anytime you need to.
  23. I have always logged what I eat, drink and my exercise since day 1. I also weigh myself everyday. If you do this you have to realize that you are going to come across bumps in the road. Take advice from everyone and experiment to see what works for you. My immediate post op instructions were followed to the t. Then as I started exercising more, I balanced what worked for me and discussed things with my NUT all the time. Everyone's body is different and reacts different to the band and it's rules. You have to keep trying different foods to find what tastes good and satisfies you. Then you have to find the balance of strength training and cardio to lose weight with the amount you are eating or lessen the amount you are eating. Find an App to do this like MyFitnessPal. It really makes a difference while you are learning so you can see what you are doing.

    Having Trouble After Fill...

Glad you are going to call. You should NEVER go without being able to drink or even eat a couple days after a fill. It's about getting to a full feeling after eating, not restriction while eating. You have to find that fine line. For me it happened immediately. Yes, I could eat more, but would then feel FULL and miserable.
