You started a great conversation here! Many of us suffer or suffered the same fate. I applaud you for stepping up and talking about you issue and being open for the conversation that may come with it. It is very hard to even recognize the problem, but you have done that and are making a conscious choice to now do something about it. It will be very hard, but you will get to a point where your mind will make the shift and it will become easier. In the meantime, we are here to support you and help you through it. I am 9 months out and am having an easier time with it now. I told myself that now that I had the band, I did not want to suffer the side affects of over doing it and that really helped. Don't get me wrong, I still come across many challenge too! But we have made this choice and will get through this together. What a huge step you have taken. Congratulations!

SueBee01 replied to goingfoit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad to hear that you are dealing well with all of the change. Sounds like you truly have a new beginning! Congratulations on your weight loss. Experiment with foods and find what works for you. -
Just make sure you are not running a temperature. Your body is going through a lot of change right now. Remember that your body needs to heal and this will take six weeks. Don't over do it. Welcome!

That is fantastic! I wish I was so lucky!

? On Carb Amounts Post Band
SueBee01 replied to csking's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree with both of you! When you have a stall, and you will, you sometimes have to change things up. Sometimes you have to eat more for a couple days, or try changing the type and length of exercise you do. Even when you do this, it may take a while and you are building muscles as you change up your exercise up. Experiment, but keep charging forward! -
I always serve the size of portion I should eat banded, but that doesn't always mean I eat it all. Eat slow, chew, chew, chew and stop eating before you "feel" full. You should be eating what you love so that you fulfill the "satisfaction" part of eating and a lot of times that eliminates the "hungry" feeling. Try different ways. Good luck!

? On Carb Amounts Post Band
SueBee01 replied to csking's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT says only eat when hungry and just eat healthy, 3 oz protein, veg, and good carb. No counting anything. I do count calories and eat between 500-600 per day and exercise at least an hour each day. Talk to you NUT,they know your body. -
Measure your food, use a child's plate and eat slow. Sorry, I didn't see if you were on food yet. When I was on mushies and drinks, I ate every two hours for the first two months. Less then a cup of food every two hours and always had a drink in my hand. Food, then water, then protein drink and start over. You will have to make changes gradually for the first several months until you get to the point where you can eat a cup of food and not be hungry for several hours. It is a lot of mind over matter at first and habits you will need to break. Find other things to keep your mind off food. Good luck!

You are only 25, you may not have problems like us old-timers! Keep exercising and moisturize your skin. Hopefully you will be lucky and it will bounce back. I am 51 and have lost 123 pounds so far. Yes I am saggy, but damn proud because I feel much better, look much better and if I want, I can fix the skin issue. Sure beats the continued issues I would have if I were still carrying the extra 123 pounds. Remember why we are doing this.

I was banded Jan. 30 and had hiatal hernia repair. If you are large breasted, take the bra off! Your incision from the hernia repair will heal much quicker. The pain from the hernia repair lasted longer then the band. Give it a couple more days. I had to wait six weeks for strenuous exercise. Drink a lot!

Question To Those That Have Had The Band Already
SueBee01 replied to GodsTyro's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No. -
Went down today to 3.47 (Jacksonville, FL). Too bad I always have to get premium (3.83) sure beats the $4 + I have been paying!

I am 5'8" with a starting weight of 330. I had my band placed 1/30/12 and have lost 122 pounds so far. Do what you are comfortable with and what you are willing to commit to. My surgeon wanted me to do the sleeve, but I convinced him that I would commit to the exercise. He is very pleased with my success so far, but it is a lot of work. I started out exercising slow, but now I exercise twice a day most days. I am very happy I did it!

Absolutely add fiber of some sort to keep you regular. And regular is now every 2-3 days, not every day! You have really changed what your body is used to and you are not eating fiber like you used to. You are eating tons of protein that does not come with fiber. I add a clear powder to my water every day and take a stool softener every day. Drink tons of water.

Seeme, hang in there! This too will pass. Take your pain meds and tell them what kind of pain you are in. Once I got home I continued on pain meds for a couple days and then just at night to make sure I got a good nights rest. You will need to take that time to help your body heal. Good luck. Just keep thinking about how you will get through this and how worth it it will be.

You should be fine. Just don't carry many books at one time.

4 Weeks Post Op And Very Hungry!
SueBee01 replied to vmarlau's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also, 24 crackers for 120 with Special K crackers. When I was first banded, I ate small amounts frequently and slowly progressed two three small meals and 2 Snacks, then down to three meals no snack and then two meals and one snack. Experiment for a while. You also have to find the foods that satisfy you. You can do it! -
When you look at the bottom of the page it tells you how many calories you earned exercising. That is the number I look at because I like to burn what I eat! It is all personal preference. If you are not monitoring your exercise too you will not know how to adjust this when you hit a stall. And believe me, it happens! I am on one now for two weeks and I have started exercising twice a day instead of once to see if it changes this week.

They have a low fat raspberry vinegarette and I just use a little. You don't need much. You will also find out later that salads aren't that great. I consider them a "filler" food. Now I really pay more attention to what I eat and it has to aste good, be good and count. No unneccessary fillers!

Family is usually the worst! Don't tell them if you don't want to! When you start losing and feeling more confident, tell them why you didn't tell them. They will probably shut up. You are doing this for your health and future, not theirs. Don't let them get you down. It will be a very exciting time for you.
