  1. Remember to do a lot of walking, a little at a time. It mat still be gass pain. You also will not feel 100% until week 4-6 as you had major surgery and your insides need to heal. Don't overdue it. Also, make sure you are drinking a lot of water and add a stool softener or fiber to your drinks so that you so not get constipated. That will be the worse! Good luck!

Be Honest- Is Banded Life Hard?

I agree with most everything here! The hardest part was eating slow and chewing it all up. It is now easy to look at a full plate from the restaurant and only eat my cup worth! Most meals from a restaurant last me several days. When eating at home, I use a kid size plate. It really makes a difference in your head! The smaller plate is full! I too had a hard time walking at 330, now I am off the BP meds, do all of my exercise non weight bearing still because I finally figured out that most of the pain in my hip is from 3 pinched nerves in my back. I have been dealing with it for over two years now! Hopefully we can get it all fixed now that we think we know what it is. I always just thought it was from my weight. I also strongly agree with eating what you love, but in tiny portions. My NUT highly recommends it to help you feel satisfied and cut the cravings. I now eat sweets again, but a bite only and it is perfect! I track everything and weigh myself all of the time. If you do this, you just have to realize that your weight will fluctuate, you will have stalls, you will have gains, and everyone loses St a different rate. Just follow your plan! I have never been stuck. I think a lot of the process is head games that have been imbedded in your brain as you grew up. Ou will have to work through them (the head hunger and cleaning your plate, dessert all the time, bread all the time, etc.). Whatever your issues are! Once you eat healthier foods that you enjoy, that goes away. I am 51 yo, down 130 pounds, have had one fill and am never hungry. I eat two meals a day and a snack and exercise everyday. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I just wish I did it 10 years ago!

How Do You Decide Your Goal Weight?

I was 330 when I started this journey nearly a year ago. My doctor picked my goal weight of 160, I picked 180. I am 10.5 months post op and down 130. I will see how I feel when I get to my goal. Hoping for onederland tomorrow!

    Here Is My Dog

Mine lines to counter surf still, just to get my attention. I still have a kiddy gate up to block him out of the kitchen! Always chewing too...

Painful Walking. How Do You Do It ?!

I still do not walk. There are other things you can do. I bought a set of pedals that sit on the floor in front of me while I am on the sofa and I pedal. I was 330 when I started, bad hip, bad knee and two bad ankles. I started pedaling at 15 minutes and increased as I could and now I do an hour. I also go to a local public pool and have a routine I created that I do for one hour. Some days now I do both, but I do something everyday. You can do it! If you are interested in my routine for the pool just let me know.
  7. I am with mis73. I see my NUT every time I o to the dr. The dr never gave me a Calorie count. I just followed the instructions and logged my food. I talked to the NUT each time and wentover it with her. She told me how to adjust it. I started out at 750 calories then when she told me to drop the liquid Protein it went down to 500-600. Only eating when hungry, two 1 cup meals and 2 small Snacks. One fill at six weeks and that is it. Exercise every day. Down 129 pounds in 10.5 months. Find what combination work for you, but don't do it on your on. Talk to your NUT.

What Is Your Typical Daily Food Consumption?

I do aqua fit 3-5 days, love it! It is amazing how doctors/NUTs are so diff on food intake! Keep up the good work. You will love the aqua fit!

What Is Your Typical Daily Food Consumption?

I am a little over 10 months post op. I eat between 500-600 calories a day and exercise 7 days a week for 1-1 1/2 hours a day. I am down 129 pounds with about 35 more to go. If you are stalled, either change up your exercise and do different types of exercise. Sometimes your body just gets used to what you are doing! Or, try eating less for a couple days. Are you tracking what you are eating and exercising? If you use something like MyFitnessPal.com it will tell you how much you should expect to lose in five weeks. Very motivating!

I Am In A Fight With My Band

You probably need a slight unfill. Try liquids for a couple days, even some warm tea to see if your stomach is just swollen.
  11. I always have something on hand to tie me over if I get in a pinch. Dried fruit and nuts, or peanut butter ad cheese crackers, Lf protein bar. Granted, I just eat a couple bits, but it keeps me from going crazy, especially if I get stuck in a long meeting or something. I eat out a lot, but I do take my lunch to work most every day. That way I can eat when I need to eat. Just make sure you have things you like!

    Tootight?

Reminding everyone that it is not just about getting fills. If you are eating solid Proteins, not Liquid Protein, you would only need a fill if you are not satisfied for 4-5 hours without eating again. Do not get fills and eat mushies or sliders. Once you advance to solids, you should be eating solids. Talk to your NUT. Every dr has a diff schedule for fills. Some prime it at placement (surgery). I waited six weeks. Have only had one and am 10 mo post op.

    All Bunged Up??

Take one Senacot, you will go within 10 hours. It is natural and effective. You will need to add a powder fiber to your drinks no as you do not get near the fiber you used to. All the protein we get does not give us any fiber. You do not want to have to resort to suppositories. I had to once and that was enough. Being constipated is no fun.
  14. I agree with mis73. I meet with my NUT all the time. It is not about dieting. I very rarely eat soup or salad! My NUT tells me it is about balance. Getting the protein in first, then veggy and good carb. The key is being satisfied. Finding key ingredients that you enjoy eating. It took me several talks with her to get my mind thinking correct and my body listening to it! Not eating on a schedule, only eating when I am hungry, making good choices and being satisfied. We are here for you. Glad to help if you need.

    October 2012 Bandsters

Jenymac and any others who are due for a fill... If you are not hungry, do not get a fill. The only purpose for a fill is to help you get that full feeling. If you already have it then you do not need a fill yet. You can schedule one whenever you need it. Your doctor may have put a slight fil in at surgery, or you are lucky like I was and the band placement itself helped me. It is a lot of head hunger issues and mine went away when I was banded. I have only had one fill and each time I go in my doctor looks at me and I just shake my head no! Count your blessings.

    New Puppy?

My puppy was two and a handful for me, I could ot have walked him for tahe first two weeks on my own. He is huge though! If you are dedicated to the pet and have everything in place for when you are gone then I think it is a great idea. Will definitely keep your mind off food and on taking care of your new baby! Make sure you don't get a hyper breed or too large of a dog. I had o idea my Labradoodle would be 100 pounds! Yes, there are three sizes of poodles, so buyer beware!

    A Little Discouraged...suggestions?

I am a fan of the pool too. I do 3-5 visits a week to the poo for an hour of water aerobics or strength training. Even on days I do that, I add 30 minutes of stationary bike. I exercise an hour every day. I also bought a rubber band to do some strength training at home. I find that you have to mix your exercise up and your food. I log everything.

    A Little Discouraged...suggestions?

I agree on the counting calories. It adds up so fast! I would also try some other type of exercise and weight lifting to mix it up.
  19. I always told myself that I didn't want to do anything to cause problems with my surgery. Reading all the bad things that have happened to people kept me in line. I have never had a stuck episode, slimmed or had PB. I am always to scared of something happening to my band that I am over cautious. It has worked or me! Find something else to either occupy your time or satisfy the craving. Tomato soup worked for me!

You can order a lot of the stuff online! Walmart, Bariatric Adantage, drugstore.com. There are all kinds of places. Shop around and get the best price. I get some of my vitamins thru Bariatric Advantage because they do not charge you shipping if you sign up for recurring orders. Also, Walmart only charges .97 for items. I have bought protein powder from them and BA.

    Detoxing Off Sugar

Earl Grey also makes a decaf and it is my favorite along with the Twinings English Breakfast tea!

    Detoxing Off Sugar

I agree that you should cut all refined sugar. I still had an occasional fruit, not I by dried fruit with no added sugar, because I just don't eat enough of it to cut ip the whole fruit! No white bread, Pasta, etc. It too me four months to even go to a multigrain bread. I just didn't want it to take up precious space in my stomach. I also cut out soda and iced tea. You will notice after a couple months you won't even like the taste of soda once you don't drink it anymore. Now I drink hot decaf tea (occasionally) or SF hot chocolate. That is really the only caffeine I get now days. Don't miss it at all. Like the others said, once you detox from the sugars, your skins amazing and you do have more energy!
  23. Welcome Kathy from Canada! I did not have a liquid preop, just a hi Protein and veggie diet. The doctors do have diff preop diets, but I too can't imagine NO preop diet of some sort to shrink the liver.
