I was sleeved on Monday (5/21) I am also a side sleeper but that has been impossible. I have been sleeping on the recliner. It’s easier to get in and out of. Best of luck to you.

May 21st sleevers report!!
maddysmommy replied to Syntax_Attack's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m scheduled for May 21! I’ve been anxiously awaiting getting a surgery date and now I’m feeling the anxiety. Got preregistered at hospital today. Blood work, EKG and chest X-ray done also. Once they handed me the Hibiclense, I realized this is happening. -
I just got approved today and have surgery scheduled for May 21st. I’m a former lap-band patient. Now getting sleeved. I’m extremely excited but scared at the same time. It all just got very real very quick.

April/May 2018 Sleevers!!?
maddysmommy replied to BeckyVSG2b's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi there! We have our psych evals on April 19th. They will submit to insurance after that is done. I keep reading up and doing my research and my husband says I’m silly. I just want to be sure I’m doing the right thing. I’m also afraid of hair loss since my hair is already thin. So your big day is tomorrow? I’d love to be in your shoes right now. Please keep me posted. We’re Texas buddies. Good luck tomorrow!! -
April/May 2018 Sleevers!!?
maddysmommy replied to BeckyVSG2b's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello everyone, I live in San Antonio Texas. My husband and I are diving in this together. We had our consult on April 6. We were told that we had the “Cadillac of insurance plans” and the only requirements were a nutrition consult and a psych evaluation. No waiting period. I was expecting a lot of requirements and waiting. But since that isn’t the case, I’m a little scared. It’s moving very quickly. One minute I’m thinking of backing out, the next I wanna be on the operating table already. I’ve had a lap band that failed and had to be removed so I’m a little scared of going through similar problems again (It was a nightmare). I’m hoping for insurance approval in the next week or 2. -
Hello! I am in the same boat with you. I had my band put in in 2012 and removed in 2017. It was fine for the first year or so then BAM, one problem after another. Couldn’t keep anything down. Sometimes even liquids. I couldn’t wait to get that thing out. The surgeon asked if I wanted any type of revision at the time of removal and I said “no” I thought “I can do this on my own” A year later I’m 30 lbs heavier and had a consult for sleeve this past week. I was told this is almost a 100% guaranteed approval because I have a very good BCBS plan. Only need one nutrition class (which I did that same day) and a psych evaluation. No waiting period. When they told me that, I got scared, nervous, excited. I’m reading everything I can, having doubts one minute then “I’M DOING THIS!” the next minute. I’ve been struggling with my weight for 20+ yrs. I’m tired. I’m ready.

I agree that you shouldn’t settle on something. It’s a big decision. I had a lap band and thought I did everything right. My band tilted and I couldn’t get anything but liquids down. Sometimes even that was challenging. I’m being sleeved after having removed my band last summer. Some people do great with the band. Others struggle and have complications. I would not recommend the lap band because of my personal experience. Do what’s best for you. Do more research and talk to your doctor. Good luck to you

Wow, I’m sorry you had to go through all that. Hopefully you’ll have success with the sleeve. Keep us updated!

Hello, I’m new here. I had a lap band put in in 2012. It was great at first and I lost around 30 pounds. I learned what foods I couldn’t eat and what was easier to eat. About 2 yrs in, I started having trouble eating anything at all. Every meal was coming back up or not going down at all. I’d have to eat standing up. How awkward is that at a restaurant? Come to find out the band was sitting at an angle so it was “kinked” so to speak. That’s how the surgeon described it after he took it out. I declined revision thinking “I got this, I can do this on my own” 9 months later I’m 30 lbs heavier and disgusted and disappointed with myself. Now considering sleeve and wondering if anyone has gone thru something similar and can tell me your experience and how the band compares to sleeve gastrectomy. Feel like a failure and just need some encouragement as well.

I have never heard of that happening to anyone! 2 lbs a week is good. I’m really hoping I’m not making a mistake. I’d be happy with 2 lbs a week I guess the fact that the sleeve is permanent is a little scary.

I was so glad to get it out. I had phantom restriction for about a week. But when I got it out I was already weighing more than my weight right before getting it. Have my sleeve consult on April 6. Your surgery is right around the corner! Congrats

New to this site. Hope I’m “replying correctly” Just wanted to say that my husband and I are both just getting started with this process and he mentioned that he was worried about losing muscle mass. He’s always been kinda built/buff whatever you wanna call it. Lol. Anyway I googled it and stumbled across this picture of you and sent it to him. His response? “I’m in” Your photo made a difference. Thank you. Congratulations on your success. You look wonderful! -
DMJC.. do you have trouble getting food down? I’m ok with getting full quickly but the struggling to just get my food into my stomach and throwing up every single time is what scares me. I hope I never get that feeling again. Feels like I’m choking.

Thank you for your reply. The band became I nightmare for me as well. I’m afraid of going thru that again. Or anything like that.
