Oh my Gosh, thank God I am not alone. I thought I was just.. I don't know.. on a roll. My husband & daughter laugh at me. Thank God, I'm not at work this week. Can you imagine excusing yourself every time it happened.
Good to know we're not alone :-)

I don't blame you one bit! So many people misunderstand obesity and what we go through to lose excess weight. The minute they hear lapband, they immediately think the band was the only thing making you lose the weight. They have absolutely no clue that the band is only a tool and never once think about the effort and commitment it takes to lose the weight! You can choose to either educate them or continue telling them the truth, YOU DID IT!!

Hi There! I am 4 years out. When I am physically hungry it feels the same as before, and I'd swear I could eat the same amount. But I get full much sooner, and the smaller amount keeps me satisfied much longer.
A meal will hold me about 4 hours now, with a meal being 2-3 oz of solid Protein, a cup or so of salad, and a small bit of starch. I eat about 1500 calories a day to maintain. The band has taken away my obsession with food. As my physical hunger is satisfied, I find I don't think constantly about my next meal or snack.< /p>
Not everyone's experience is the same as mine. This has been the easiest weight loss plan ever in my life. The weight came off with ease and I am maintaining that loss with ease.

So, here I am getting ready to head out to my pre-op apt: EKG, lab work, and Dr apt. Tomorrow's the big day. I don't have any doubts about having the surgery, but yea, I'm a little nervous. I've read & read & read (information overload) everyone's comments about their own journey. I have an idea of what to expect, and I know it'll be tough especially in the beginning. There's no way I wan't to mess this up.
Getting ready for the new me!

    short and sweet
sure the bypass will help you lose weight (faster sometimes)
    and so can the band.
news flash---anyone with any WLS can gain their weight back if they start overeating the wrong foods again.
(its up to the person with the band to do the hard work, you know eat right, eat the 1 cup required food and excercise).
    some people dont have manners.
i hear that alot too. but you know what, i made the decision to make myself well.
    haters gonna hate regardless.
seems to me, people who dont know sh** about the band
or understand it have the most neg nellies comments.
do this for you and be successful
you already are in my book

Well, today is my 8month anniversary of being banded. I have lost a total of 30 lbs but, the last mont I gained about 4 lbs back. I had my third fill yesterday and hoping that this will get me losing again. I feel like I am getting close to the green zone but, not sure. I am trying not to be frustrated with myself and the band. I have to keep reminding myself it is not the bands fault. It is me. I control myself. I am the one that makes the choices that I do.
The last six months have been crazy. I started a new position at my job, I was studying my butt off for a certification test, and We moved into a new house. So, I have been a little stressed. So, I contribute some of my down falls to that....that and laziness. I
So, I decided that I have got to get my butt in gear and do this. I really think that the band is just a tool that helps you it is not a cure. You are still going to have those crazy thoughts about food. It is just a tool to help you control yourself.
I am thinking about getting a trainer. I really need to get in the habit of working out. I know if I did this I would truely see results.
So...No more laziness!!! I am back on track and ready to kick some butt!!!
    No EXCUSES!!!!
My one year anniversay of the band is in December and it's my birthday too. So...my gift to myself is to accomplish what I set out to do!!!
    Happy 8month anniversary to me!!!

Yes, there are wide variations as to the surgeon's pre op and post op instructions for their patients.
My doctor was quite strict with his expectations, including my weight at my pre op appointment.
When in doubt, or have questions that relate to your medical condition, communicating with your surgeon will be the best place to get the accurate information you need.

Was standing in the kitchen last night when my husband came out and wrapped his arms around me and made the comment there was so much less of me to hug now. I'm only about 3 months post op but I'm down 59lbs. I feel wonderful and my husband just made my day.

OMG, you had to feel horrible during that time period! I was banded in April and have been doing well without a fill. I've noticed my weight loss slowing a bit, so I feel sure my doctor will want to do a fill on my next visit. I will definitely pay close attention to the changes it brings to my body and hopefully avoid some of the issues you've been experiencing! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us Bella!

Be positive with everything you do. It does work but you are the only one that can succeed. The band is a tool, use it and you will drop the weight. We are all here for you and for us to all Succeed in losing weight. We are a big support group and I'm sure many here have gone through what you're feeling. I'm only 1 week since surgery, but I know I want to be healthy and be able to do normal things again. I will succeed.
Best wishes and hang in there. WE all Care!

    Domika03 got a reaction from anjb07271 in Pre-Op Diet
    Hi everyone,
I'm scheduled to have lap band this Friday, the 17th. I'm getting excited, and a little anxious too. I'm considering adding the plication to my surgery. Does anyone have any experience with that?
Also, I only have to do 1 day liquid diet before my surgery date, but am curious what everyone suggests. I'm confused as to the difference between a Protein shake (which I doubt is considered a clear liquid I can have before surgery) and Protein drinks. What's the difference?
    Appreciate some feedback.
    Thank you!

    Hi Miriam,
I will have my lap band on Friday, the 17th. I'm also excited, anxious & nervous not knowing what the road ahead will be.
I find it interesting to see how each Dr has different requirements. I have to do an all clear liquid diet the day before surgery then all clear until day 4. I think day 5 moves me to regular liquids so not just broth, SF popsicles, etc...
I'm considering plication but don't know what the pre surgery requirements are, and since my pre-op isn't until the day before, not sure if I'll be able to do it. I'll be reaching out to my Dr tomorrow to see what he says.
I'd like to stay in touch to see how both our journey's go. This way we can support one another, in addition to, receiving great support from some of the members here
We're in it together. Hang in there!

Beware of the "slippery slope" when you give yourself permission to cheat on your diet, and you are still pre op. If you are already having difficulties with your diet compliance, what other permission will you be giving yourself in the weeks and months to come to be non-compliant with your diet post op?
Getting through the weeks of pre op and post op liquid diet is definitely a challenge. however this is the time to hone your coping skills for diet compliance and to understand that if you want to be successful with your weight loss, diet compliance and exercise are what it takes.
Even now, after 2 fills and nearly 6 months post op, I am still having to use distraction and drinking Water to help me manage my hunger every day. Understand the psychology behind why you are cheating on the diet now...it will help you develop some additional coping skills.
    Best wishes...
