    Dr Michael Snyder ?

Has anyone used Dr Michael Snyder in CO for lapband with plication? I'm scheduled to have lapband on Friday, and keep going back & forth with plication since insurance won't cover that part. Out of pocket expense for that would be $2250, not including what balance my insurance doesn't cover. They will pay 85%. Appreciate any feedback...thanks!

    8/17 Day 1 - Post Op

Hi everyone, So, let me back up 1 day to surgery yesterday. I woke up & really wasn't nervous like I was the day before. Some how my nerves were calmed. It's gonna happen so why get nervous about it. I went to the hopsital around 9:30am MST and had surgery at 12:30 or so. The worse part was just laying in the hospital bed, waiting for "my turn." I had my durgery done at Rose Medical. Great staff all over. The surgery itself, I'm told, took 19 minutes. While I was there they made me walk around, and can I say, I was burping left & right. Yes, that's what I said ... LOL... I'm told thats very good becuase you want to get the air out that thee pumped in there. It almost seemed to relieve me. so uh, if you can, burp away my friends... the other thing i did at the hospital was gentle massage my stomach. it seemed to gently soothe my achiness at times, I was definitely tired, and a little achy when I got home. My throat actually hurt from havng that tube down my throat. The best way to decribe the achniess is that I felt like a had a permanent stomach ache, an a sore throat with maybe swollen glands; no fever. I went home & napped on & off while making sure to drink / drink / drink. My husand took such good care of me, even my 10 yr old daughter I was thankful to be watched over & pampered. I didn't sleep very well last night, very restless, and therefore woke up with a bit of a headache. I'm not sure what to take, but was going to try my daughter liqud tylenol, if I could find it. I'm sure I'll nap again on & off today as well. Oh, I must have peed like 20 times since I got home (seriously). My goodness, I'm releasing all those liquids... HA HA .... . Thank God, my throat pain feels much better, My stomach is definitely less achy. May I repeat that getting up and, forgive me, but burping again (and any other relief from gas) is helpful. Just saying guys... So far, I'm only had 2 oz of a protein drink, but it looks like I will sipping liquids just about eery hour for the next 5 days. I don't think I actually feel hungry. Saw my daughter eat one of those breakfast sandwiches & I didn't crave it. I'm sooo hoping that stays with me. Well, that's about it really. I'm going to shower then go grocery shopping (yes, I know) for the family. They told me to walk around the first few days, but not to over do it. I'll keep you guys posted. Thaks for listening. PS,,, ive actually lost 4 pds in 1 day due to the liquid diet
  4. So, here I am getting ready to head out to my pre-op apt: EKG, lab work, and Dr apt. Tomorrow's the big day. I don't have any doubts about having the surgery, but yea, I'm a little nervous. I've read & read & read (information overload) everyone's comments about their own journey. I have an idea of what to expect, and I know it'll be tough especially in the beginning. There's no way I wan't to mess this up. Getting ready for the new me

    Little Green Banded Monster

LOVE the skinny girl eating a cheeseburger comment. I think ANYONE who is overweight can relate, LOL. I'm having surgery in 2 days, so I'm uber nervous about the whole post-op process. Heck, I'm nervous about the clear liquid diet for several days. No doubt I'll be joing the bandwagon in no time.... Speak your mind. That's what our posts should be about

    Dr Michael Snyder ?

Sorry, one more question. Did you only have to do 1 day of Clear liquids before surgery? I see many people here have been doing it for a week or more, so I'm concerned I might have missed something....

    Pre-Op Diet??

My Dr's office only has me doing a clear liquid diet the day before surgery, which starts tomorrow. It's different from a lot of things I've heard other people say. I think every surgeon is different. Mine is Dr Michael Snyder in CO

    Dr Michael Snyder ?

Nice to hear, thanks. How do you feel? Did you feel the gas pain everyone talks about? If so, what did you take for it? My hubby is kind of leaning towards the no, although he said its my decision. Money is a factor too, of course. I don't know what kind of a payment plan they would offer, but it's another bill

    United Health Care

I have UHC but more GEHA (government employees). Mine required a 6 month supervised diet along with documented exercise program. Once submitted, my approval was given in 2 weeks. They will cover at 85%, dietician also included. Good luck!

    Nervous Nelly > T Minus 3 Days

8/14/12 Making the decision to have lapband surgery was a well thought out, and planned one. I did a lot of research, and perhaps like many, made myself a little crazy with "information overload." Then there's the "what if it doesn't work," "what if I have issues with the band like many people on other websites have so willingly pointed out," "do I have what it takes to see this through the right way?" I realized that I basically shoned myself from the World as much as possible the last 6 months. The biggest issue was that I didn't want to socialize anymore. I tried to limit going out for fear of being seen in public by someone I might know. I went as far as not trying to be seen at work by too many people. Oh my gosh, I sooo hated the way I looked. I would do anything to avoid social contact. I was even dreading my BF's visit to come out & see me back in May. I was so embarassed. Nothing I wore looked good, things wouldn't fit, shopping was pretty much impossible. You get the picture. I made the decision to do this for me, and noone else. I have an out-going personality, love to laugh, and "be social!" I felt that I was doing myself an injustice by not being that way anymore. Basically, my body didn't match my real personlity. Those closest to me will reap the rewards of my weight loss because I will get my confidence back, and start feeling good about myself again. It's hard to believe that I started this journey in Jan of this year, and now I'm only 3 days away from having surgery. I have many mixed emotions: anxiiety, nervousness, excitement, and even a little worried about the journey that lies ahead. I've reached out to people on this website, lapbandtalk.com, and am very thankful for the wonderful support I've received. People have emailed me sample menu's, talked about their own personal journies, given me advice, etc.... Exactly what I need, and what I'm looking for. So, thank you to everyone who has replied, and no doubt, will respond to my questions & concerns. I appreciate your support, and hope that my documented journey will help others! Warm Regards, Fran

    T Minus 3 Days!

OK, I'm obviously starting to get nervous. I went to bed with a headache & woke up with a nasty tension one. So, I've got a few more questions: After surgery, what can you take for headaches? I know Tylenol, but do you crush it, take kids liquid medicine, ??? I hear several people talk about having gas pains. What can you take to help? This might be dumb, but I'm guessing that I won't be sleeping on my stomach any time soon, or any time? Sorry for all the questions guys! I'm trying to be prepared as best as possible. Thanks!!!
  15. That's awesome! I have mine on Friday. I'd be curious to hear how things go the next few days post-op so "I" can prepare Good luck!
  16. Hi, My surgery is Friday, and I was planning on going back to work next Monday. I've heard several people say that they went back to work right away. Am I being unrealistic? Should I take a few days off next week just to be safe? What did everyone else do after lapband (possible plication too)? Thanks for the feedback.
  17. Thanks so much everyone for the great feedback! I think I will take some time off next week. I have the ability to work from home so I'll play that by ear.

    T Minus 4 Days

Hi everyone, Well, my surgery is in 4 days. I've been doing a lot of reading (my guess is too much, although I can't seem to get enough), and am starting to get myself a little nervous. I've read how some people are actually feeling hungry during the liquid diet phase, and how others are feeling quite emotional. I'm seriously considering getting plication with the lap-band, but am a little nervous about that too. Nerves are starting to kick in a bit. I also find it amazing at how everyone has a similar, yet different, diet plan. If I read mine correctly, it shows: Week 1 (day 1 - 5 post op) > Clear liquids only * I start this on Thursday, the day before surgery, and with a surgery time of 1:30pm on Friday, not sure how my tummy will handle it) Week 1 (day 5-7) > option of refried Beans, low fat cottage cheese, egg beaters, light/low carb yogurt & sugar free pudding Week 2 - 3 > soft food such as 90%-100% Protein / small amt complex carbs (veggies first), not to exceed 1 oz every 2 hours . Oh joy! Week 3 & beyond > solid food such as 75% protein/25% complex carbs Does everyone have something similar?
  20. I'm an Order Fulflillment Manager (basically like a Customer Service Mgr) so I sit on my fatt tushy all day. Sounds like I'm going to request some time off for next week, tomorrow. Thanks guys!
  21. Hi, I've noticed that people take some time off from work after having this surgery. My surgery is this Friday & I was thinking I could go back to work on Monday. I heard several people say they went back to work right away. Am I being unrealistic? Should I take a few days off next week, just to be safe? Anyone? Thanks
  22. I'm no expert, but based on all the reading I've been doing (probably *weigh* too much), it sounds like it could be gas pains. I've heard this is very common & it's in the area you mentioned. I also read to try GASx strips to help. I don't know if they work but I'd be curious to know so I could use this same advice when I get my surgery this Friday. Good luck!
  23. Hi Miriam, I will have my lap band on Friday, the 17th. I'm also excited, anxious & nervous not knowing what the road ahead will be. I find it interesting to see how each Dr has different requirements. I have to do an all clear liquid diet the day before surgery then all clear until day 4. I think day 5 moves me to regular liquids so not just broth, SF popsicles, etc... I'm considering plication but don't know what the pre surgery requirements are, and since my pre-op isn't until the day before, not sure if I'll be able to do it. I'll be reaching out to my Dr tomorrow to see what he says. I'd like to stay in touch to see how both our journey's go. This way we can support one another, in addition to, receiving great support from some of the members here We're in it together. Hang in there! Fran
  24. Hey guys, Where are you ordering sample Protein shakes?
  25. Hi everyone, I'm new in here, but think I prefer this site than the OH (Obesity Help). So, I'm scheduled to have surgery this coming Friday, the 17th. I only have to do the clear liquid diet the day before the surgery, then for several days there after. Although I am considering doing the plication with the lapband so I'm not sure of their requirements. I don't have my pre-op until Thursday so I'm hoping to get some tips from people in here Does anyone have any experience with the combo of plication & lapband? Are the dietary restrictions the same? Is a hospital stay required? Can someone give me an example of a clear liquid diet progressing ot a soft food diet, please? Sorry for al lthe questions, but I do appreciate the help! Thanks Fran
