My story...
I wasn't overweight as a child or teen. Oh, I could have used losing 10 pds or so but not much more than that. I didn't gain weight until I was an adult, during my pregnancy of my 1st child (age 26). If I had to explain the weight gain, I'd say it was because I was in a bad marriage at the time, and used weight as my friend. It consoled me. Two years after the birth of my 1st son, I became pregnant with my 2nd, where I gained some more weight. Still being in a lousy marriage, and knowing I'd wind up being a single parent, I just ate my way through the tough times. I was a single mom with 2 kids (ages 2 1/2 yrs old & 4 months old). By this time, I weighed around 180 - 185 pds. Oh, how I wish it stopped there.
I met my current husband when I was around 185 pds, and this time, managed to gain & lose & gain & lose & gain & gain each year the last 13 years. I don't have an "excuse" other than I let myself get this way. I didn't eat healthy, and working out, or having any physical activity was non-existent. It's my own fault. I have a 10 yr old daughter that I want to enjoy. I want to go out & d things with her, and not be ashamed of how I look.
So, here I am now; 47, and weighing around 245 pds. Whoa, how'd that happen?
I've always been a "people-person," very out-going. However, I found the last 6 months of my life to be anything but that. My outwardly appearance has really hindered my life. I don't like ot go out, hate being in public, don't even like to see co-workers at work.. This is NOT the real me. I want ME back!
With that said, I'm scheduled to have lap-band this Friday, Aug 17th. I'm ready for it. I understand this is only a tool, and that I have to work at keeping myself healthy. While I'm considering also having plication, I don't know if the requirements for that are the same as with just the lap-band. My pre-op isn't until the day before surgery, Thursday, so I don't know if talking to my Dr the day before will do anything.
My surgeon is Dr Michael Snyder located in the Cherry Creek area in CO.
I look forward to using this site for support, and give support.

Due to 3 partial band slips, and consistent pain, I've decided to have it removed & replaced by the gastric sleeve. My surgery is 1/16/14.
