  1. Hi, I am nine days post op. For the first 6 days post op I had major bloating pains etc from the gas but did not really experience any shoulder pain. On the 7th day I saw my dietician and moved to pureed foods from liquids. From that day onwards I have been experiencing severe shoulder pain. Weirdly, the pain happens around 4 hours or so after eating (when I assume all food has gone through my band etc - especially as nothing is in my band atm because I have no had my first fill yet) and recently, has been hitting me in the early afternoon/night. The only thing that helps to get rid of it is heat and oxycontin. I am unsure if it is just due to my body healing still post op and that means it will go away soon or if it is because of moving onto puree foods. Has anyone else experienced this delay onset shoulder pain? Should I expect to have it throughout the lifetime of my band? It is so painful that often I am crying out in pain and since I am returning to work tomorrow I am nervous that I will get this at work (usually it takes half an hour minimum to go away) Anyone else's thoughts/experiences on shoulder pain etc would be greatly valued. Z
  2. Thanks for your help both of you. I think I'll start doing 20 min walks over the next few days and if I'm still feeling good in a week, increase it a little more. Loving being banded :-) although having no restriction ATM is very hard! Always hungry but I'm hanging in there :-)
  3. Hi there, I'm a week out from surgery and other than my port site I'm suffering no real pain anymore (my port tends to hurt when I move around too much or when I lie on it etc) Anyway I live with my parents and my father is an avid exerciser and desperately wants me to start doing 1 hr walks around our neighborhood with him. I'm happy too but i don't want to hurt myself or push myself too quickly. Just wondering when the ideal time to start walking would be and what other people's experiences were? I also want to go back to the gym and do weights etc but I read you had to wait 6-8 weeks! Thanks for the help :-)
  4. Good luck everyone! I got banded on Sept 4 :-) The first few days after were a bit rough with gas etc but it's been worth it! I've already lost an extra 7 pounds since my surgery date - and it's only 5 days out :-) Very excited for you all and loving this forum - now I can stop driving my family and boyfriend insane with all my band talk... haha
  5. I'm five days out and only now am I truly starting to feel like myself again and (slowly) go off my pain meds, so I am ultra impressed you were out and about! That said, I think they others are correct in saying that a bit of rest would do you good. Regarding the pain: I had a lot of gas pain post surgery so I understand what you are saying about that - it's pretty hideous and I think that's why relaxing and resting up is so important. Unlike you, I am still able to burp so I feel like that relieves a little of the discomfort. I have only had limited shoulder pain (thank god because the few times I have randomly got it, it was awful and took my breath away with the pain) and no jaw or hip pain. I have had pain in the middle of my chest near my boobs though. I think ultimately, our bodies are just reacting to having something new inside us and it will take time and healing but eventually any aches and pains will go away. 5 days out, the main thing I am struggling with now is with gas pains and port pain. And I don't think you mentioned port pain? So, if that's the case - at least that is not causing you any grief atm! Chin up and rest up.

    On The Other Side....

Hey everyone. I thought I'd let you know how I'm going. I had surgery on the 4th of Sept and was in hospital overnight. I was in quite a bit of pain - but I'm pretty sure that's because I have a terribly low pain threshold! I had two lots of morphine and I am still taking oxycontin several days out now when the pain gets really bad. (They told me most people only need panadol! They must have a high pain resistance, that's all I can say!) Interestingly enough, it wasn't the surgery pain (incisions etc) that were getting me down but more the uncomfortable feeling from the gas in my stomach. I didn't get much shoulder tip pain but the gas and bloated feeling was so very painful - for the first couple of days all I've mostly done is walk around a bit and sleep off the pain. That said, three days out now, I am starting to feel a lot better - so don't feel put off if you are a little worse for wear at first, it will get better. Now the stuff everyone wants to hear - On the day I went into surgery (Tuesday): I weighed 97.2kg (approx 214) On the day I left the hospital (Wednesday): I was the same at 97.2 kg (214) On the Thursday (after my first night at home): I was 95.8 (approx 211) And this morning, the Friday: I was 94.2 (approx 207) So since I've got home (in the past two days) I've gone down 3kgs (approx 7 lbs) I think a lot of this is to do with being quite sore and not very hungry but still - when you're feeling down, a little bit of weight loss tends to cheer you up for sure! Anyway let me know how all you other Sept bandsters go and I'll keep you guys updated with how I'm going in the future - if you're interested? :-) Z
