Did Anyones Surgery Effect Your Menstrul Cycle?
jaded replied to SleeveShelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I put my Nuvaring in a week early so I wouldn't have a period during my first few weeks of recovery (it was due 3 days before my surgery). Two days after my procedure I got it anyway, even with the NuvaRing in. It was heavy @ lasted the full 7 days. I read somewhere that the stress of the procedure and the anesthesia can bring it on. Don't know about missing it though. -
Fellow Sept 17Thish Sleevers
jaded replied to newstart!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved September 19th Starting weight: 340 Current weight: 315 My husband thinks its a lot but I just am not seeing it. :-( -
I have severe pain on my left side near an incision site. My surgeon told me pain is normal there because that site took a lot of abuse when he pulled my stomach through it. It just keeps getting worse but I am weaning myself off my pain meds. It feels like a burning, tearing pain when I lean, bend or sometimes just walking triggers it. Can anyone relate? When will it subside?

What Would Happen If I Cheated?
jaded replied to SkinnyOnMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did it. I ate exactly 4 potato chips and I was MISERABLE. Gas, pressure, nausea. I regretted it exactly 6 minutes after I was done. I wanted to throw up but I was scared it would stretch or tear at my staple line. Please be patient!!! Time will fly before you know it. -
Thank you guys. I just needed some reassurance. You've made me feel much better. Think I'll stick with the pain meds a bit longer! :-)

I lost 30 pounds before surgery using MFP to count calories. My sister introduced me to it. I just love it. It really gave me hope before surgery. I also like how everyone is so positive! HnyB123 :-) -
My post op diet goes Week 1: Clear Liquid Week 2: Full Liquid Week 3&4: Soft Foods Week 5& After: Regular Food as tolerated. My surgeon said soft foods includes scrambled eggs, refried beans, tuna, thi eggs, refried beans, tuna, thin sliced ham or turkey etc. is it odd that I didn't really have a pureed stage?

Fswanner----I'm so jealous!!! LOL. I know, the diets can be freaking crazy different sometimes.

The Pain Of After Surgery
jaded replied to Donedeal091212's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG! I really feel you. I try to sleep inclined, and after a while my bottom hurts so so bad! I have been propping a pillow under my left side & leaning that way a bit and it helps relieve the pressure. I used to sleep on my stomach so it's been hard. My advice, experiment & use LOTS of pillows!!! Hope it gets better! -
No nasogastric as far as I know. I had to be intubated, which I hear is the norm, but you're asleep when it goes in and asleep when it comes out so no problems there!

I have not been sleeved yet, but I want to get into a routine that I can stick with before and after surgery. My problem is I just can't get into a groove. My question is, when is a better time to exercise, when I wake up or shortly after, or before bed? I don't want to be tired before work, but I'm afraid if I workout before bed I won't be able to wind down. Any advice or personal experience would be very welcome!

I'm 3 days post op and all in all I can say its not so bad. Sugar free Popsicles are my best friends! :-) I had a hiatal hernia repaired as well as getting the sleeve done so I don't know if the pressure in my back and chest is normal or because of the hernia. I also have some pain in my left side from the big incision but splinting it really helps! I haven't had a pain pill all day and I'm okay, which is saying something because I'm such a weenie when it comes to pain. You'll do great!!! -
Thanks so much! The sweet stuff was just too much to take!
-
Does anyone know of a protein powder that I can put in chicken or beef broth? Do they make anything like that? All these sweet shakes and drinks are making me nauseous!!!
-
Thank you guys for the input! It helps to know people are there to listen and help out. :-)

I have not received my surgery date yet, but have finished all the major steps. I have had consultations with the surgeon, dietician, psychologist and finance dept. Now that I feel like I am so close, my husband wants me to "shop around". I know we won't find anywhere less expensive but he wants to see if there is somewhere closer to home. We live in the Lubbock area. My problem is when I try to find a surgeon getting information is like pulling teeth! All they want to do is schedule you for more seminars. Why can't there be an easier way to get the info I need?! Anyone in Texas have any recommendations or info on surgeons in my area? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
-
We are not looking for cheaper, we are looking for closer to home. I know seminars are good but I have been there and done TONS of research. But I think I'm sticking with my original choice.

Mine was quick and simple. Mostly I admitted that my overeating was no one's fault but my own and that I knew that my ability to succeed was based on me and not those around me. They do want to make sure you have a good support system, though. I can only speak for myself, but it was quick and painless for me. I hope it goes well, and if you cry, oh well!!! It's healthy and sometimes you just have to let it out! Good luck!
