In my opinion, it's like women after they've had a baby. They love to share their stories about childbirth and the first couple of months afterward. I think it's best to just reply politely with comments like "sorry you had that experience" and change the subject. If you don't feed the fire, it will eventually die out.

Diana327, I don't understand why you are being rude to hazelsmrf. As she pointed out, this is a VSG board therefore anyone on this site would have had VSG not DS. It is a self-pay for Mexico sub-forum, but for those who are having VSG.

Energy Levels After Surgery?
amykins replied to 920amy's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm 43 (42 @ surgery). I was back at work 5 days after surgery, although I was lucky enough to be able to go home at lunch and lie on the couch for 30 mins or so. It took a couple weeks to feel completely back to myself, 2-3 maybe? And some days I would come home and feel so exhausted I could barely climb the stairs to my room. I definitely took a few naps on the weekends for the first 4-5 weeks, Now 7 weeks out I feel great. Most of the time I forget I'm sleeved unless I drink or eat too fast. -
Mexico Surgery And Post-Op Pain/gass
amykins replied to Holly5.3's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Wow, I'm so sorry to hear that. I had surgery in Mexico with Dr Aceves. I had no pain after surgery, although I did have nausea the first two nights. Not during the day, just when I went to lay down for the night. Weird. I had a hernia repaired (didn't know I had it). I was in the hospital for three nights after surgery and had an hour-long van ride to the airport. I used a stuffed animal between my stomach and the seatbelt so no problems. The flight home was uneventful and I drove myself home from the airport (maybe 15-20 minutes). Still no pain, just tired and ready to lie down on the couch when I got home. -
I live in Henderson. I didn't go through any Vegas surgeons. I was self-pay since my insurance doesn't cover WLS. I went to Mexico with Dr Aceves. He was cheaper and has much more experience than any Vegas surgeons. And I wanted the three-night stay in the hospital. I hear Blossom is out-patient.

How Did You Tell Your Gamily And Friends?
amykins replied to Jimbo_D's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't told anyone but my BFF and my hairstylist. Before surgery, I didn't want any negative feedback. Now, I just feel like it's my business. I feel weird sometimes, not telling, when people ask me how I'm losing the weight. But I suppose if someone really wants to lose weight and I trust them, I would tell them. -
I'm already here so yes! Let me know if I can help with planning

Anyone Going To Aceves In Dec?
amykins replied to littlehope126's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi! Just wanted to say that when i went I only knew one person from this site (my surgery sister FRZA) but there were several people already there in different stages of recovery. So don't worry too much if no one says they are going, you are sure to find other people there. One person knew we were going by reading this forum but didn't post about it. We met her at the airport. -
Hi All,i Am New And This My First Post.
amykins replied to sweetiebell33's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I am 5'2 and I know how every pound seems to show and how much it wears on your body. I yo-yoed up and down and finally decided I needed a weapon for my war on weight and that's how I came to VSG. Some could say that my 193 pre-op weight was not so high but I was depressed & miserable. My parents are both obese, my dad has diabetes (mom probably does too but hasn't been to a doc or dentist in at least 25 years. No exageration), and my grandfather had a series of strokes and later died from a heart attack. I could see my future and it wasn't pretty. Ask lots of questions, do your research, and keep coming back! We are all here to support you. -
How Do You Pay For Your Part?
amykins replied to Coykoi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me three. I was a self-pay so I cut corners and saved everywhere I could for nearly a year. But it felt good not to have to worry about bills afterward. -
Yes, the OTC Prevacid didn't work for me. I was taking 3 a day. Protonix is a prescription, but works great for me.

Yay! What a great feeling! And I have to ask, where did you get the PJ's? I'd love to get a pair for my sis-in-law. -
Thanksgiving Day Challenge
amykins replied to AKSleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmm, I'll try this. I've been stuck at 166 for about a week now. I'll go for the 150 but I'm averaging 2.5# week so that may be ambitious. -
Yes it will get better. I had severe nausea the first two nights so bad I was sitting with a trash can in my lap and the night nurse patting my back like I was a little kid LOL. They had to keep increasing the dosage in my IV. I took about 6 Gas X strips at the same time so not sure which really helped.

I rarely had issues with heartburn or acid before surgery (just if I ate something spicy too late in the evening). I was given a PPI after surgery & needed it every day, After my PPI ran out, I tried OTC Prevacid but it didn't work well for me. My stomach felt like it was boiling! Not heartburn, just pouch pain. I was up to a pill every 6-8 hours with little relief. I know it works well for many but I had to get a script from my PCP yesterday. Hoping it will work!

5 Weeks Out Today And Really Concerned :(
amykins replied to Carly4HandinSD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most post-op people are given a PPI such as pilosec before they even leave the hsopital, that's how common this problem is for us. -
5 Weeks Out Today And Really Concerned :(
amykins replied to Carly4HandinSD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You probably need a PPI. That gurgling is acid which makes you/me feel hungry. You can try OTC Prilosec, most people do well on it. I didn't have much luck and just got a prescription for protonix yesterday. My pouch was feeling like it was boiling from the acid. I've never heard of anyone needing an appetite suppresant so early after surgery, if at all. -
Sleeved With Aceves On 10/13!
amykins replied to mango926's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
So glad to hear it! I loved the staff and the hospital myself. If you have time, I recommend getting more protonix from the pharmacy across the street. I used it all. Oh, and put a sweater or stuffed animal between yourself and the seatbelt for the ride back. It made the long trip much more comfortable for me. -
Official Stall Thread- When Did You Hit Your First Stall And How Long Did It Last?
amykins replied to NJSleeveboy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hit my fist stall at 3 weeks out (coincidentally when I started mushy foods). It lasted two weeks. The interesting this waas that I had lost about 20 pounds but my body didn't show much of a change. During the stall, I went down an entire clothing size even though I didn't lose any weight. -
Is. Dr. Aceves really THAT great?
amykins replied to Roudoudou's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
It was only this page. I would have posted pics if there was more than one. Personally, I happen to know one of the surgeons and I wouldn't trust him to operate on a bug much less my stomach, so I kinda question the selection process. Don't ask which one, I won't say. Many people here have used him and had good results. -
Wow if I had to wait 1.5 hours before and after eating to drink I would be sooo dehydrated! My surgeon said 45 minutes before and after. Most say 30.

Is. Dr. Aceves really THAT great?
amykins replied to Roudoudou's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I bought the 4/14/12 Newsweek issue on Amazon just to see if it was true and will post the pics here. Also, I don't believe Dr Aceves has written a book about VSG but Dr G Alvarez has. Please note: I'm not posting these to stir up controversy but just to show that the Newsweek does exist. How these surgeons are selected is not explained. Although Dr Aceves was my surgeon and I recommend him 100% to anyone, I also respect other people's opinions and believet there are other surgeons just as capable and experienced as he is. -
I bought them at the dollar tree and never even took them out of the package. I used a regular teaspoon and just never filled it halfway. I cut my pieces about the size of a dime and put my fork down and chew like 30 times before I swallow.

Anyone Have Any Complications Going To Mexico For Surgery
amykins replied to mbabercrombie's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had my surgery 8/31 with Dr Aceves. I was treated like a VIP from start to finish, the hospital was amazingly clean, and the staff was spectacular. I work with physicians and hospitals for a living, and the hospital I was in was cleaner than most of the ones I visit daily. I had no complications or pain at all. I have a follow-up coordinator who answers my questions by email, usually within a couple of hours. There are many great surgeons in Mexico, In my case, my insurance doesn't cover wls, and even if it did, my surgeon has done more sleeves than all the surgeons in my area combined. Feel free to PM me if I can answer any questions about the experience.
