How much weight did you lose the first and second months after surgery?
amykins replied to Russell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 23 pounds the first month, 8.5 the second. -
ellie_kae, you won't need anything to drink. They will supply you with more delicious broth, Vitamin Water, and hot tea than I could possibly drink LOL. Oh, and I asked for ice chips and ate them by the spoonful. I now prefer super-cold drinks to hot ones.

Low Bmi'ers...how Long To Goal?
amykins replied to Carrie's Journey's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was 193.5 on surgery day, 8/31. Today I'm 152. Last month I lost 10#. I don't mind losing slower, I'm hoping it will help me not have too much loose skin. Hope! Hope! -
Yes, and I hope I didn't sound snobby in my earlier post. I just didn't realize that sharing a room with another person was a possibility. I would definitely schedule my surgery date with someone I knew, even if it was someone I met online.
-
I'm exactly 3 months out and I've gone from 193.5 to 152. I don't know how that compares to others but I'm happy. I lost 23# the first month, 8.5# the second, and 10# last month. Ps grateful I had my own hospital room for three days with no roommate. I would hate to meet a stranger when I'm feeling my worst.

Getting Protein In Week 2!
amykins replied to Beetracy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I added unflavored unjury to my drinks. Syntax nectar makes some good protein drinks that are good for the liquid stage. I ordered mine at mybariatricpantry. I got a 10 pack of samples to try the different flavors. -
Love it! Great way to celebrate the new (50 pounds lighter) you!

Cosmetic Questions For Post Weight Loss Phase
amykins replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a guy, but I can answer your lasik question. I had Lasik 12 years ago and it was one of the best things I ever did for myself. It's great to go swimming and see where you're going, look at the clock in the night to see what time it is, and just do day to day things. I had them checked last August and I'm still 20/20. Plus if your wife likes it, I say go for it  PS My ex had a hairy back and he waxed it, especially in the summer. I liked it! But that's a wifey thing too. She might not mind the hair. -
I'm 5'2 And I Don't Know What My Goal Weight Should Be .......
amykins replied to LHT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5'2 with a medium, curvy frame. According to the bmi chart, 130 will put me in normal range. When I get there, I may try to go down 5-10 pounds. -
Sleeved In Mx, Follow Up In Houston?
amykins replied to Nicolanz's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
If your PCP won't help, urgent care is much cheaper. Also, look online for free clinics in your area. They are staffed by volunteer physicians, You may have to wait awhile, but it's cheap. Oh, and get a new PCP. There are plenty of family practice or primary care physicians who will see you after VSG. It's your health and your money. -
Has Anyone Else Been Released To Drink Pop
amykins replied to SleeveShelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, no soda for me ever again. My surgeon said carbonation can stretch the sleeve. And I don't plan to experiment to see if that's true. I will take my surgeon's word on it. -
Your Life 1, 3, 6, And 12 Months Out?
amykins replied to lucky8mb1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be three months out tomorrow and I can honestly say my life is about the same, only better! I eat out with my friends at least once a week. I have had chicken breast (leftovers for the next two meals), In & Out cheeseburger in a lettuce leaf, 1/2 a piece of thin-crust pizza (didn't eat the crust :-( my fav) and even a couple bites of a friends pancake at Breakfast Thanksgiving weekend. I had a scrambled egg but her pancake looked too good to resist. Thanksgiving, I had turkey, a couple bites of mashed potatoes, and a bite of my mom's homemade roll. Later I had two small bites of a cupcake. I don't feel deprived. I choose not to eat chocolate/candy because I know it is a weakness for me. Obviously I like carby foods, so when I cheat, that's where I go, but am happy just having a taste of it. That's all I need. I actually feel better now that I'm eating cleaner. I don't have headaches or sugar withdrawls. I like eating a scrambled egg for breakfast now when I used to eat a poptart washed down with mountain dew. I have no regrets as all. The first month wasn't nearly as bad as I expected and now I don't think wbout food much at all. I sometimes forget to eat. And I ate at Mcdonalds or In & out almost every day before. I hope everything goes as easy for you. -
There are some excellent suggestions already mentioned, but just in case, the post in this thread about Dr Aceves patients is helpful for everyone going to Mexico. Here's the link: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/1748-dr-aceves-gastric-sleeve-surgery-information/

What's The Least Helpful "advice" You've Received?
amykins replied to acyclistswife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Jessica got paid one million dollars to lose that weight. I could lose the weight too. Problem is, I can't keep it off! And she struggles with her weight too. She has yo-yoed up & down over the years. I hadn't heard she was pregnant, but if she is pregnant so quickly I suspect it's partly so she can eat again without the media taking a zillion pictures. I'm not a fan of her, but I do think she's one of the celebrities I can relate to, at least as far as weight issues. Keep doing your research and make the best decision for you, not your mom, not Jessica S., not anyone but yourself. -

Clothes Shopping - Makes Me Panic
amykins replied to MacSleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've gone from a tight size 18 to a 10/12 pants and XL top to a med top (most of them) and I still have anxiety when I shop. I only went shopping when I was down to one pair of pants and two shirts that I had bought as goal items about 5 years and a dozen diets ago. So I've bought a few things but I still pull larges first. Last week I went to H&M for the first time and had to stand outside taking deep breaths and telling myself that even if nothing fit this time it would in a couple of months. I ended up walking out with two medium sweaters. BUT some of the large shirts were too tight. So I guess I'm saying that no matter what the labels say, clothes are sized differently. Start a little larger than you think you will need, and enjoy trying it on in a smaller size. -
Sleeved In Mexicali! Warning: Really Long ;)

Sleeved In Mexicali! Warning: Really Long ;)
amykins replied to starlet's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My experience was exactly like the original posters, down to buying an extra box of pantazol (so glad I did that!). Happydaisy, the drug wars have been happening in Mexico for many years and you will be right inside the border and in a business section, nothing going on anywhere near where you will be. Plus you are driven from the airport to the hotel and back to the hospital the next morning. I traveled alone and felt quite safe. -
I was given supradol. I didn't need it after discharge but I took one at the airport just in case.

Any Hints For First Days After Surgery.
amykins replied to Mortensenmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My suggestions: Get all your food & supplies before surgery. I used better than boullion for liquids, lots of sugar free popsicles (went through 2 boxes in 10 days), I needed extra gauze & tape for my drain site & had to go to the store to get it. That sucked! Wean yourself off the sugar & caffeine now to save the withdrawal headaches later. Looks like you have a young child? Freeze some casseroles ahead of time so they can be re-heated so you won't have to cook. Get Protein samples from bariatric pantry, unjury, etc. Don't try them now, they will probably taste different after surgery. Take lots of pics. I wish I had taken more, especially not fully clothed (like sports bra type) to compare to. Good luck! Amy -
You'll be in great hands. I had Dr Aceves and the staff made me feel so comfortable and safe. I was so nervous but once I met them all my fears disappeared. And there was no pain at all. I went to the pharmacy across the street the day before I left to get another box on pantazol (anti-reflux). They give you one box but the grains were so much easier to take than the pills I was glad I had it. I also got an extra box of supradol (pain pill) but I never used them. They dissolve in your mouth but I really didn't have any pain to take them for.

Would U Do It With Bmi Of 38?
amykins replied to NurseMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely! I'm 5'2 and had a lower BMI. I fought the weight battle for more than 10 years and decided VSG was the best weapon in my fight against obesity. It isn't always easy, but it's worth it!
