I would suggest going low-carb as well. If it helps, go to the Atkins website at http://www.atkins.com/Home.aspx. They have a free quick-start kit you can order that has the induction and all other phases, plus free bars and coupons. You can also get lots of recipes from their site. Most fruit has sugar, but berries are pretty safe. Strawberries are the best choice to come to mind. I think if you go very low-carb, and cut your calories down you will start losing again. I kept mine under 20 carbs/day and about 600-700 cals while I was losing.

Change in plans...now going with Dr. Aceves
amykins replied to ncdimps's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
MzMeka, I reached my original goal of 130 at about 5 months, I've slowly lost 8 pounds since then. I did exactly what Dr. Aceves said in his post-op rules. I paid a lot of $$$ for this sleeve and I didn't want to waste a minute or a penny of it. I consciously under-eat my sleeve. I have never once once tested it to see how much I can eat. Dr. A said eat 2 oz of Protein, I eat 2 oz. Why test it even with 3 oz? I eat 3 meals a day and an afternoon snack. I kept my calories in the 600 zone and now eat closer to 800. I don't show my profile pic for privacy reasons, but I'd be happy to share my before/after pics with you through a PM. Follow his rules and you will be a Dr. Aceves success story. -

Change in plans...now going with Dr. Aceves

I had surgery with Dr Aceves on 8/31/12 and I highly recommend him and his team. Yes, his services do cost more than some other surgeons, but to me he was worth every penny. I went alone and didn't worry about a thing the whole time I was there. -
Going to Dr. Aceves solo in summer 2013
amykins replied to ahri's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had surgery with Dr Aceves and went alone. There was one person from this forum who went at the same time I did and several others in various stages of recovery. We were all in the same wing. There's a post somewhere in this called Dr Aceves, what to take that really can be used by anyone traveling to Mexico. I will say I had a great experience. I really felt like a VIP the whole time I was there and can't say enough good things about Dr Aceves, Dr Campos, and the rest of the staff. I saved for a long time to have my VSG through him, and I feel it was worth every penny. I lost 75# in five months. I'm sure it was partly due to my snug sleeve. If I can answer any questions, feel free to PM me. -
I had my surgery with Dr Aceves in Mexicali. One of the reasons I chose him was the fact that he operates out of a traditional hospital. It was very similar to the American hospitals I work in, and it's a lot cleaner. I was very happy with the care I received and highly recommend him and his staff. I'm sure you know this, but there's a great Mexico sub-forum on this site where you can get lots of info.

I've lost 2 by kicking up the Water & cardio. Researching plastics surgeons now. Mexico for sure!

Dr Aveves was my surgeon. He and Dr Campos were amazing. It was total VIP treatment from start to finish. The hospital was spotless and the staff was so nice! One nurse sat beside me patting my back while I dry-heaved into a trash can from nausea until the meds kicked in. I loved staying in the hospital for the entire 3 days until it was time to go home. Everyone was there at a touch of a button. I lost 70# in 5 months. Been holding steady at 127 since late Jan. Hoping to bust off 5 more before I start my PS tummy tuck. Ernesto was great too,

I haven't had it since pre-surgery. It used to go down WAAAAY too easily.

Protein shakes feel like a rock in my stomach. I sometimes drink 1/2 a premier shake in the morning and the other 1/2 in the afternoon. But I prefer to eat my protein instead of drinking it.
-
I like Atkins bars (chocolate PB) and EAS bars when I am hungry while out & about. Makes it easier to pass the %%^## McDonald's that sings to me if I am hungry while shopping there.

7 month up date 78lbs loss and I'm a size 6! yay!

Congrats! You look AMAZING! -
how much is everyone eating 6 months out?
amykins replied to SleeveShelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat about 2 oz of Protein (beef or chicken), 1.5 if I include a veggie. Other food, averages 1/2 cup total. I make my own food on Sundays for the week, so I measure into the correct portions. I often have 1/2 Protein shake in the morning and drink the other half in the afternoon, Until recently I didn't snack, but the last month or so I find myself needing a small snack about 3 pm. It usually takes me 15- 20 minutes to eat my meal. If for some reason I can't finish it, I toss it. I wait 45 minutes to drink anything and wait 3 hours between meals. -
I'm not a year out, but I'll put my .02 in anyway. I was afraid I would fail. I have tried to lose weight so many times and failed. I can't tell you how many times I've done WW, Jenny C, HCG, you name it, I've probably tried it. Of course, it was only temporary. I'd lose 20-30, gain 4o+. Up and down for more than 10 years. Finally felt like my metabolism was broken. Even the low-carb just wasn't working anymore. I lost 70 pounds in 5 months. And I feel like this is a way of life I can live with the rest of my life. I'm sure you will succeed too.

Last minute packing check list
amykins replied to havaneseday's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I highly recommend a heating pad. It helped me so much with the gas pains. Also I brought my Paddington bear to put between my tummy and the seat belt for the ride to the airport and for the plane ride. I'm sure any stuffed animal or small pillow would do. -
Turned out I had a hernia. Dr Aceves kept saying a very LARGE hernia. I had no idea. Anyway, he repaired it with no charge.

Six months surgiversary!
amykins replied to moonrisen's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Great job Moonrisen! You are a shining example of a successful sleever. I have no doubt you will reach your goal. I'm sure having such a great surgeon didn't hurt either  -
Woo hoo! The next three months will fly by too. Like said above, walk as soon as you can, and keep walking as much as you can. It really helps, especially with the gas.
-
Yay! Now you won't be up all night (like I was) being excited one minute and anxious the next. I would much rather have jumped off the plane and on to the OR table LOL
