The road is long, with many winding turns....
celticwinter posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's been awhile since I have posted here, actually I havent posted since my surgery on 2/13/13, I have been a lil angry and didnt want to give anyone the wrong impression of a proceedure that could save their life. First a lil bit about myself, I weighed over 320 before my surgery I am now at 277 have A-fib, take heart meds and a blood thinner. Prior to my surgery I was to stop taking my blood thinner (5 days prior) well I forgot and started 4 days prior but I did inform my doctor of my mistake, he said not to worry. I was admitted the nite before surgery so they could monitor my blood and the numbers were still a lil high so the morning of surgery they gave me plasma to bring down my numbers for the INR. I was scheduled for 7 a.m. but wasnt taken til 4 p.m. since my levels were still high, mean while they gave me a total of 5 bags of plasma. I woke up from the surgery alright and was walking around that evening and the next morning fine actually the nurses were teasing me that I would get out early. Then holy hell broke loose and I went downhill in a flash, my blood pressure dropped to 78/38 I couldnt breath nor could I respond to their request. I went into kidney and respitory failure due to having my system overloaded with fluids!!! BUT they didnt tell me this was the reason until I was being discharged 2 weeks later, they just kept telling me they didnt know what was wrong grrrr. So I come home having to have oxygen 24/7 which I never had before, a visiting nurse and therapist. My doctor said they got a lil over zealous the day of surgery, and I was thinking you could have killed me. Needless to say I was angry because of a surgery that should have only kept me in the hospital 2 days ended up to be 14 days and I come home very weak and with oxygen. I went to my first post op appointment .....strained was putting it lightly, I skipped my second but went to my 3rd and saw the PA. It's gonna be a long recovery, I have to have my kidneys checked once a month til August--so far so good. Im still winded so I dont exercise alot but I am down 43 lbs. What I want you to know is if there is any questions or feelings about what they are doing to you MAKE them explain everything and how it will affect you....dont let them treat you like an outsider THIS is your body you have the right to know what they are doing and WHY! NOW do I regret having the surgery NO not at all what I regret is the effects of some of the proceedures they did prior to my surgery. I wish everyone success in their journey and a healthy and happy life I will get there the road is just a lil longer at the moment. Celtic -

What i won't miss about been over weight.
celticwinter replied to gelen's_change's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can relate to all things listed. It is so sad how doing the simple things in life such as be able to tie your shoes, sitting in a chair, riding a ride can become such a burden. I think, no, I know I wont miss the looks from people who think being over weight is contagious! All these feelings and insecurities will be a thing of the past but I will always remember the feelings they brought me and hopefully I can be an inspiration for someone else to make the journey to "Life after Obesity". -
Had my final Dr visit today and saw the anesthesiologist...everythings a go. My surgery is 2/13 I go into the hosiptal 2/12 so they can monitor my blood since I am on blood thinners, then Im the first surgery on Wed. This has been a long haul but now its here nervous, scared, giddy and cant wait to clean out my closet! Good luck to you all and I know we will all succeed in our journey to a healthier life

Day 4 of my 12 day pre op diet, clear liquids and 3-4 protiens shakes a day...yuck but Im gonna keep at it. This is the hardest thing I have had to do and I knew it would be. Today 2/4 I meet with my surgen, sign the necessary paperwork and then off to see the anesthesiologist surgery is 2/13/13. I have been doing alot of reflecting on my life during this journey, but thats another post. Good luck on your surgeries!!!!!!

Did you keep your surgery a secret?
celticwinter replied to KanesMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have only told my hubby, son and a good friend. I havent told anyone in my family since they are totally against WLS, my mother's favorite thing to say is chew it and spit it out. My brother is a Dr. and my sister is a NUT for a large insurance co. and both say watch what you eat Sooooo I have basically gone underground so to speak lol and am going under renovation per say, more than just WLS. I will see them in 5-6 months and whether I tell them or not I havent decicded on as of yet or maybe I will let them read it in my memoirs. This is a very personal decision and I dont want any negative influence in my journey. -
finally start to see a difference
