  1. Thank you, I feel that's a very good sentiment to remember. This is a very personal decision and while I know everyone is trying to help fellow patients, it can really scare the bejesus out of patients who are about to have surgery with any Mexico surgeon, especially those surgeons who may not the flavor of the month.
  2. I think certain surgeons go through their 15 minutes of fame...which happens to correspond with deals and price breaks (not that that's the only reason people choose their doc, their name just seems to come up more). I'm scheduled with Dr Kelly on Oct 6th and each time I call, he's in surgery, so he's operating. Also, there have been some issues (patient death and the seperation from coordinators) and that can turn people off.

    Oct Sleevers

Add me to the list too please. I'm scheduled with Dr Kelly on October 6th.
  4. I started my pre-op diet today since I was able to move up my surgery date from December to October 6th. I'm starting a little early becaue I'm hoping to lose 15 lbs to get my BMI under 50 and save $500. I notice most other patients were able to have Protein drinks but on the Pre-Op diet sheet I received from Omar, I didn't see them listed. I emailed him just now but was hoping to get some feedback from you all in case he doesn't get back to me before tomorrow. Thank you!
  5. Oops..just saw it was about a month...see, I'm going crazy
  6. I too have a BMI of over 50...how long were you on the diet? My surgery is 10/6 and I need to lose 14 lbs. So far I've lost 2 lbs and I'm having short term memory loss (forgetting that I got gas, purchased things etc) and after a trip to the doc, she said it was diet. Did you have any problems?
  7. I thought the pre-diet was similar to the post-op but I have heard that you receive the post-op stuff before you leave. I'm gonna email Omar and ask for it. I have also heard that it's kind of vague. I found the pre-diet kind of vague and confusing too.
  8. I have yet to be sleeved by Dr. Kelly, so this is just my experience so far. 1. Every time I emailed Omar or called Dr. Kelly, I received an answer within.minutes. 2. I know Dr Kelly has had a death and that there is a lot if speculation on what happened. He also has had a leak and there's some issue with him not taking responsibility..that being said, I still chose him. I had horrible complications from an emergency gall bladder removal and the surgeon and hospital was so bad, I actually filled a formal complaint with a few medical boards. I also has ovarian cysts removed at another hospital in which the surgeon messed up the inner stitches and I have tearing pain if I sneeze or move wrong. This may sound terrible, but accidents happen and while I don't wish complications on anyone, I can only hope the person learned from their mistake. 3. It was important to me that I be in a hospital with an ICU 4. It's a gut feeling. Just because he's right for me does not make him the best choice for you. 5. All of these surgeons are excellent and I imagine are not out to intentionally hurt anyone but they are human. Plus bad experiences lead to less business for them. 6. I didn't want a coordinator because I didn't want any he said.she said . Sorry for the length. Again these are just my personal opinions and someone may disagree with every statement I made but I think everyone will tell you to go with your gut instinct.

    After Care Anyone?

I'm scheduled for October 6th with Dr. Kelly. I emailed Omar because I have these same concerns. The reply I got back stated that with Dr. Kelly, any complications while I was down there would be covered and I would not incur any more charges from his medical team but if the total amount of hospital care received exceeds $2500 (including the main surgery), I would work out hospital costs with the hospital. If any complications arise while back at home, such as a leak, stricture etc, Dr. Kelly would work with me on payment and fixing the complication. I'm not trying to sell you on Dr. Kelly, but just wanted to give you my experiance. Also I don't have any insurance back home as I am a full time student and have work study. Insurance for me with my current BMI averages $500 a month with a $2000 deductible. I could either have the surgery or pay for a year of insurance.
  10. So I've decided to have the VSG in Mexico in December but after reading all the posts about complications and issues, I'm scared of what I will do if something goes wrong after I've been home. Since this is a maor surgery and there are risks, I wouldn't expect any surgeon (US or otherwise) to automatically cover the complications if they weren't at fault. I will have healthcare at the time of surgery but they do not cover anything to do with WLS or complications from it. I'm a student and on work study, so paying out of pocket for thousands of dollars in medical bills would not be something I could manage. My biggest questions are: 1. If you havr had WLS surgery and had complications, where did you turn? 2. Has anyone bought insurance for complications from surgery? 3. What plans have you made/use after retuning home for complcations and after care? Thank you in advance!

    2013 Surgery Anyone?

I'm hoping to schedule for mid-December or early in January when I'm on break from school. I've chosen Dr. Kelly and his assistant Omar is really dedicated to calling patients back. It's a far cry from the everday phone calls and messages I leave for doctors here in the US and still haven't had a return call in 2 weeks. My hubby will be making the trip with me but if anyone is there when I'm there, I'm open for buddies!
