  1. Hi everyone! First of all, I can't base anything off of a weight because I haven't weighed in since my doctor made me give my scale up because it was making me neurotic. I stayed at the same weight for 14 days after surgery and was on liquids the whole time, no cheating, and no dairy/ cream Soups. And then I gained a pound and had a meltdown. So - I can only base this on circumstances. I am wondering if this happened to anyone else: ever since I started soft foods last week and now have progressed to (mostly soft still but) fuller foods, my feet and ankles have been super swollen! I thought these days were over when I could see the bones in my feet after surgery! Details: I don't salt food since surgery. If there is a lot of sodium in it, I avoid it unless impossible. I am not PMSing or pregnant. I had surgery 3.5 weeks ago. My diet: egg whites for bfast, grilled chicken for lunch, chicken (grilled or baked) or shrimp (cocktail- but no sauce) for dinner. I drink about 48 oz of Water a day and a half of an Isopure also. I know it's not enough Protein, but I feel like it's all I can fit. I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but my doctor also told me to start taking my Vitamins last week, which also is when all of this started. And to add to it, since Monday (when I also conveniently ended up sick with a head cold), I have been getting diarrhea in the morning and at lunchtime (but not at night). People keep telling me that I look like I am losing weight but I don't see it at all. I can't check the scale because I am afraid that I haven't lost anything with all of this swelling. I have a call in to the doctor but I am majorly freaking out.

    Help! Is This Normal? Swelling!

Oh and also, on livestrong.com, there are some exercises to help reduce swelling of the ankles. So I will be doing that too. :-)

    Help! Is This Normal? Swelling!

Thanks everyone for the comments. My surgeon deferred me to my pcp for the ankles. I am going in next week. In the meantime, I was told to up my water intake, drink some green tea and make sure to get my protein in because I am clearly not getting enough.
  4. I waited 10 days and then couldn't take it. I think seeing myself losing all this weight has made my confidence a lot higher and I have been much "happier to see him" lately than I was before.

Hahaha good plan. And maybe some d3
  6. I was out for one week. It wasn't fun putting on real pants with a button again but I wouldn't say it was too soon. 2 vac days might be a bit quick though. Can you take sick time?

    Surgeon Says No...

If your doctor teaches at harvard medical you should def get a second opinion. He's probably a phenomenal doctor but if something were to happen, he has more to worry about regarding risks to his medical license. Thats probably why he is so hesitant. Get a second opinion. My reg doctor made me go to a cardiologist to sign off of my pre op EKG because while it was normal, there was a slight change on my EKG and she did not want HER license at risk. Doctors!! :-) good luck with everything.

Having Boy Problems, I Feel Bad For You Girl...

Oh and one more thing. Steve, my boyfriend, is very insecure now about whether or not I will stay with him once I am thinner. So it's nice to see that he is slightly insecure too. (not to mention, ive kept him well fed this past year and he's gained about 25 lbs and is having trouble taking it off, so he's getting a taste of his own medicine.)

Having Boy Problems, I Feel Bad For You Girl...

I actually had the same thing happen to me twice. My boyfriend of 7 years broke up with me because of my weight, saying that he doesn't want to be with someone who is overweight and can't keep up with him. Well, low and behold he married someone the same size. So, in his case, he knew how he could hit me the hardest and used it to make himself feel better because I am really independent and probably would never have otherwise let him see me cry. So I got through that and two years later, last year, I met my current boyfriend and when we were just dating he told me that he wasn't sure how he felt about me because, in his words, "he wasn't sure if he could get over the vanity of dating someone my size." needless to say that killed me. I went into starvation mode, cried for days, the whole nine. And I totally avoided him. One day he called me and said that he never said that because he wanted me to change, but that he wanted his vanity about having to have the best girl to change. Then he said that really he didn't feel like he had to because I will still the best looking girl and he wanted me to be exactly how I want to be. It was at that point that I started to ask myself what exactly that was. Eventually after trying yet another fad diet, I decided I wanted to get the weight off for real and here I am, 12 days post op. He did the same sh*t that your boyfriend did when I was recovering, too. My favorite food is lasagna and the second day I was home, he made himself a giant plate of it and ate it in front of me. I told him he made me want to choke him with it. (lol I am pretty direct) and he said it never even crossed his mind. And I believe him. Guys don't think about that stuff. so there are two extremes. I am not going to lie, I have a lot of trust issues with my boyfriend because of what he said a year ago, but I also know that most of those issues exist because I have severe self esteem issues about my weight. The more I lose, the better I feel, but I'm hoping that I will feel more consistently better about him and i also. Hope this LONG story helps. Lol
  14. I was told that I can still use the nuvaring after surgery.

    Pain

I get that when I eat too fast. I know it's hard to slow down because we are all just looking to get back to a normal-ish lifestyle, but you have to slow down. I eat just a spoonful at a time and wait 5 min between because the pain is awful when you eat too fast.

    8 Days Out Stall?

I'm having the same thing. Everyone keeps telling me to stop weighing myself. I do know that I am losing because my clothes are getting looser but you're not alone! Keep with it and good luck!
  18. I am freaking out right now thinking that I'm going to be the person that this surgery didn't work for. I had surgery on 7/30 and at the end of the week, I weighed in at 251. I weighed in Tuesday of this week at 249 and have been weighing in at 250 ever since. I am getting about 60g of protein a day, I am eating mostly protein shakes and a 6-8oz cup (which takes me an hour to finish) of low fat vegan soup (dairy doesnt sit right since surgery) for dinner and the weight is not coming off. I am also drinking about 24-32 oz of water a day. I'm starting to freak out because I'd think that the first weeks where I can't eat anything should present the best results but somehow I am just not getting them. It makes me want to cry to think that I put myself through this for nothing. Am I the only one who has had this problem?

    Uhc Wait....

UHC took 7 business days to approve mine... Good luck. They say approval is 7-10 business days and my DR office was super dilligent about calling, so she actually found out after 5 days but waited to get the approval in the mail.

    Crying!

Shortly after surgery, I got my period. I was emotional the day before. Perhaps it's a hormonal imbalance due to the stress on your body? Good luck, I hope you find an answer. PS. My doc said that was normal.

    Any Sleevers With Pcos?

Come to think of it, my doc told me that there's a water pill that has the convenient side effect that it slows hair growth in odd places like the face. Might be something to look into.
  23. Sometimes when your body is building tissue, it creates a burning sensation inside or an itchy sensation outside. All of my incisions are now itchy so I know they are healing. I can occasionally feel a slight burning around my belly button too but I think it's just the healing process hope it helps.
  24. I had a relatively ok recovery. I wouldn't say I'd do it again but I am allergic to narcotics and opiates so I had NO pain meds until I stumbled upon children's tylenol. If the can take the pain away, it couldn't have been that bad. I was sleeved last Monday. I am returning to the office on Wednesday but if I really pushed I could have gone today. My big reason is that my incisions are under where the underwire on my bra sits, so it can be uncomfortable to wear one. hope this helps. If you have a physically strenuous job, I would take two weeks. Don't overdo it.
