    New fill is a challenge

bobby, I know my doctor makes you wait 5 days now to eat solid food after a fill. But, you still shouldn't be having major problems like that. Are you having sinus troubles? My band always gets tighter when I have sinus problems

    The importance of Water

My husband always has a hard time with any liquids, We thought at first it was because of the slippage, but, it has continued since the resurgery. This is whether or not the band has been tightened or not. He has no problem with food, just water. It is the weirdest thing.

    Diet Cokes?

Unless you don't mind drinking it completely flat....No. I too was a severe diet Pepsi addict. It has been since the day before surgery 8/21/03 that I have had one. I tried a little bit of sprite once, and it gave me gas. I have a medical question, call me dumb, but, I have always wondered. Since the Diet coke is in the inside of the stomach and the band is on the outside of the stomach, how could it erode the band?

    What irritates you?

Sue, I too agree this person is not your friend. I will say, I think this person is jealous of your success. She does notice your weightloss, she is just trying to be vindictive. so she can wallow in her self pity.

    What irritates you?

At a Christmas party, I almost ran into a situation where I would have to tell. Like I said in an earlier post, I don't care who knows, but, my husband doesn't want anyone to know he had the surgery. Anyway, I had eaten a shrimp, and the hostess who is a friend that doesn't know, wanted me to try some special wine. I told her I would try some in a minute, she kept on insisting I try it. Well I didn't want to be rude, so I tried some. I was so afraid, because, if I drink anything within 5 minutes of eating....I will throw up whatever I just ate, and it will happen right then where I don't have control. I had to fake a sip, which was hard since she was watching me. Thank goodness, she looked a way for a second and then I pretended to sip

Megan, I understand. I saw your big weight loss so I was impressed you could eat those things. I don't know what adjustments you have had. Onion rings were one of my biggest addictions. So, it is probably for the best I can't eat them. I really miss onions in general. I can no longer eat them...they will not go down. Everybody's band reacts differently to foods. I read in Shelly's I think it was.....wraps. I can't have a wrap with my band. I can eat a doughnut with np, but, for some reason pita bread or that soft taco shell will not go down for me.

How much weight have you lost?

claraluz, you are not a dummy. all you need to do, is highlight (drag and hold in the left button on your mouse) over all the names and weights. Then, click the right side of your mouse and choose "copy" then, in the quick reply box, right click again and choose paste. this should put all the names and stuff you copied in the quick reply box. Then, all you have to do is add your name to the bottom and change the total: Hope that helps Denise

I guess I have watched too much Oprah about meds lol. After the scare with all these arthritis pain stuff (Vioxx etc) I try to read all my directions carefully. It says on my bottle: Take medication on an empty stomach. 1 Hour before, or 2-3 hours after a meal, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. It also says: Take this medication at least 4 hours before taking antacids, iron, or vitamin/mineral supplements.

    Lapband Advice and Encouragement

Wade, I am so glad you posted your letter. I feel your pain. I was there and still go through it too! I went from 282 to 232, then back up to 261 after a year. My advice, look at the posts that talk about what people ate that day, see their weightloss monthy, and maybe it might help jump start you again.

    What irritates you?

Harleynana, I get that all the time too, it is so annoying. It's like they keep talking even though you are trying to convince them it is another surgery. I use to carry around a picture of the band and port, just to show them

Sorry, I didn't see you had asked me a question. I take Synthoid, and it says on the instructions you are not suppose to eat anything, I can never remember if it is an hour before the food, or 2 hours after the food, or vice versa, so, I go cautious and wait 2. I just started taking them about 6 months ago. I am not sure the reasoning behind it.

harleynana, I know what you are saying about getting hungry. I did notice, in the foods you chose that day, you had alot of carb oriented foods/or sugar oriented ex. your Margarita, Beans, nachos. That may be why you feel hungry. Carby foods tend to make me crave more carby foods, and I never feel full. When you feel the hungriest, instead of going with the foods you wrote, try substituting something like grilled vegetables (not salad) or a meat that is a little less band friendly, but will go down eventually when you eat real slow. High Protein foods, tend to digest slower to me (I don't know if that is scientific, or just a coincidence) Plus the thought of actually having to cook the food, will usually make you want to reconsider whether you are really hungry.......or just bored. Take my advice if you want, just a suggestion

    Google and your privacy

Hey now, I work in media lol I do agree with you though. Things should be explained better. I take for granted people know things. But..........I respect people who ask questions that they don't know, then, pretend that they do know, when they really don't. Plus, there are alot of golden oldies in the media who want to be hip so, they color their hair, get a face lift, and use jargin (sp) that they think keeps them young with with whipper snappers lol

np A blog is basically a journal that you keep online. You can talk about whatever you want. Some people just put family pictures, Many soldiers in Iraq have them to talk about their tour there. It is sort of like a website http://www.blogger.com/start

I just type deniseg in the yahoo search and my lapband messages pop up. Thank goodness I am not the only deniseg out there, but, it does say deniseg 5'8" from Chattanooga TN. in the search engine, I am not crazy about that, considering it comes up on the first page of the search engines. My blog also comes up and I got more personal info in there than I do on this site.

    DeLarla, How are You Feeling?

I am so sorry to hear about your story, I hadn't been on the board in awhile. People like him make me sick. The good part, I notice that lapband talk messages pop up in the search engine. Maybe, by you mentioning his name in your post, if someone was thinking about getting surgery from this guy and typed his name in the search engine, your story will pop up, and make them look elsewhere.

    Food Journal Thread

Wow, this is a great idea!!! I was so hard on myself when I wasn't losing weight. Looking at the posts here, I wasn't really as bad as I thought. My food was healthier probably even, but, my portions were probably too large. I admit, now that I am doing Nutrisystem with the band, I don't have to count calories as much (they do it for me) Do most of you have to eat at the same time? I do, or I get off track. I wake up around 8:30am I have to take thyroid medicine, so, I can't eat for 2 hours. I have my Calcium bar (90 calories) around 10:30am 11:30 today, I had my Cranberry granola bar-120 calories 2:30p I had lunch chicken salad and melba toast-approx 170 calories 4:30p Lite yogurt-110 calories-no fat 6:30p I have a salad with just lettuce and parmesan cheese and low fat dressing-approx 170 calories? I don't know the calorie content of lettuce. It was a small tupperware type bowl. 8:30p I had vegetarian lasagne (210 calories) 10:30p I have soy sour cream and onion chips (110 calories) If I counted right, 980 calories. I eat basically every two hours. I feel like I am constantly eating, but, since I started this, it jumpstarted my weightloss again. I have lost 15 pounds in less than a month. Before this, I had plateaued for about 8 months. I haven't even started back excercising yet. I had been really lazy in that dept. I know with the lapband, you are suppose to only have 3 meals, but, I found I was hungrier and would eat more when I did eat.

    Tennessee Bandsters ??

Hey Emmy, I am from Chattanooga. Now live in Cleveland. We both have the same surgeon. small world! Denise
  21. Just don't do it again!!! lol Don't worry, you are not the first post in here I have seen that someone didn't do the same thing. I know my doctor won't let you eat solids (meats etc) until week 6. watery Chili at week 4 or soft scrambled eggs. Milk products not until week 2. Like others have said, each doctor is different, I know my doctor personally, was one of the very first doctors to use the lapband though. Just in the last 1 1/2 since I had my surgery, the rules on what you can eat/not eat have changed. The rules I just stated were enforced when my husband had to have his surgery redone after his band slipped. But, as I stated in another post. after a fill he now makes you wait 5 days before solid foods. It use to be only 2.

    What irritates you?

I think the most annoying person so far that knew about my surgery, not because I wanted her to know, but, she was my boss and she knew I was having surgery, she saw the fax from the Gastric band institute, so, it kind of said it all. (Of course, even after 100x telling her she, was convinced I had the bypass (an annoyance in itself) Here's what she said I have a friend that would really benefit from the same surgery you had. I don't know if I should recommend it to her, because you don't look like you have really lost enough weight. You are my guinea pig experiment for her. Gee thanks!!! lol

    My Secret Lapband.

Don't feel bad about keeping it a secret. I had my band put in in Aug of 2003 and my mom still doesn't know. (That is an issue in itself lol) My friends pretty much know. I don't care, but, my husband didn't want anyone to know about his surgery. Of course I had to keep mine a secret around his friends. It was tough, because one couple wanted to go out to eat all the time. It is embaressing when you have to burp when things start going down slow. And, people look at you funny thinking you are choking. My husband had to have his surgery redone, and was worried about what he would tell his best friend, because he didn't want him to know he had it done in the first place. He realized finally that he was going to have to tell him because his friend wanted him to help with a remodel the same weekend. He finally just told him,and when his friend asked why he never told him? My husband said, "I was embaressed that I couldn't lose weight on my own, I didn't want anyone to know, because I thought they would think I failed on my own" His friend was very supportive. I think because my husband was honest about his reasoning, his friend could relate, because, everyone has insecurities, whether it be weight, a receeding hairline, no boobs, an addiction etc. His friend said "I think it is great" and he really meant it.

    Phantom/recurring smells?

Donali, Maybe I watch too much John Edwards, but, I believe that can happen. I have a similar situation. I will smell, a pipe, or Jergens soap and believe My grandparents are watching over me. Sometimes I will smell my Aunts breath (it was pretty distinctive) and I think My aunt in watching me.
  25. Tricia, I noticed that you posted you might have too much restriction and that you pb several times a week. Please be careful. My husband had the acid reflux, pb'd several times a week and felt almost too restricted. His band slipped, then they thought it went back in place, but, now it has slipped again, and now he has to have his surgery redone. I just care about you, sorry to be a downer. It is better to get a little out if you think you need to, then to have to have it slip
