I was kind of concerned that you are having tomato soup on day 2. That is normally a no no. You should be on clear liquids still. That may be why you feel weird. No protein shakes yet for sure. I know everyone's doctor is different but, at Day 2 you should still be on water, gatorade, chicken broth at the most. I know it is hard to not eat, but it is important for the band area to heal.

I miss Bread!!!!!!! I really do, I miss eating sandwiches, or at least a piece of french bread with my meal. I also miss going out to eat. Use to do it with 1st and 2nd adjustments, but, now I don't get any enjoyment out of it because I am worried my food will get stuck and I won't be able to find the nearest rest room. I do miss social situations that involve food because most of my friends don't know about the band, and the ones that do, watch every bite I take worried I am going to have to go to the emergency room lol But I do enjoy the weight as it slowly drifts from my body

My husband and I have had the lapband about 7 1/2 months now. I'm on my 3rd fill. He's on his 4th. He is curious to know whether anyone has complained about acid reflux since the band?? He did not have this problem before the band but, now does. Does anyone have this problem?? What helps? Also, he has a hard time keeping liquids down, but, has no problem with solids?? I thought that was strange

I drink about 30 minutes before I eat usually. I don't drink with my meals for at least 30 minutes afterward. If I do, I will throw up. So, not wanting to throw up has helped me not drink with my meals lol. I don't notice my food going slower through the pouch at 30 minutes vs 2 hours. I asked my nurse and she said 30 minutes is fine to wait. I will say though that if I just had an adjustment, I do wait 2 hours because food goes very slow after an adjustment

That's a good way to think of the band alexandra (like a pacemaker) I felt the same way, and struggle with the same feelings to this day. Especially when I go to a support group. (Which is ironic I guess) I don't see my weight in myself, as much as in others with the band, and I have a tendency to compare them to me. Especially if they are a lot heavier than me when I started. I'll say to myself "I totally understand why that person got a lapband, but I lost 70 pounds once before on my own.....did I really need the lapband?? couldn't I have done it on my own??" But, then reality sets in and I remember all the times I cried in my sleep about all the weight that I was gaining and instead of doing something, I would go get a huge pizza and chow down or, eat junk food. Obviously, the lap band has saved my life. I would be lieing if I said I only eat healthy food. I don't. But, the lapband only lets me eat 1 candy bar vs a bag of minitures. You have only had the lapband for such a short time, and your body is still in recovery from the surgery. Make sure to visit this site for encouragement. I don't know if you know anyone personally that has had the band but, it helps to talk to someone about what you are going through. I am lucky in that my husband has had the surgery too. good luck and just take it one day at a time

DeniseG replied to vampy's topic in The Lounge
shelly, you do look awesome. It is great to be in the mid 200's isn't it? It seems a lot closer to your goal. We both had our band the same week so, I feel I can relate to many of your posts -
1st visit to doc, down 17.6 pounds total
DeniseG replied to not2big42long's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is a lot of weight too lose in such a short period of time. Probably a lot of it due to water. You may experience some weight gain. (Maybe as much as 10 pounds or as little as 1) Your body sometimes goes into starvation mode after a dramatic loss and will plateau. Don't get discouraged, even if you do gain back, it will come off in due time. I know, if you're like me once you start losing you get energized to check the scale often. Once you go to solids and before your first fill. Stay off the scales more often. Just concentrate on chewing thoroughly and drinking your 64 oz -
A stomach virus had been going on at my husband's work and that was causing his severe heartburn we found out. (Several people complained of severe heartburn) Just to be on the safe side though, he is going for a band check up

My Wife & I banded yesterday same time
DeniseG replied to syber's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats to you on your new banded relationship My husband and I were banded on the same day too (Aug 21st) I don't know what I would have done had we not been. It is nice to have someone who knows what your going through. We have basically had adjustments done on same day. He has had one more than me though. Even though you were banded on the same day you will have different experiences. Once you have your adjustment for example, you might experience more tightness then her or vice versa. Or lose weight faster or less. Don't get discouraged. It is a wonderful experience to go through it together. -
It must have been a really old post sorry Alexandra. Or, maybe another Alexandra lol
-
I forgot to tell you Alexandra I like your new picture!!! I read on another post that you had to have surgery.......what kind of surgery did you have? if I might be nosey

thank you so much for your responses. He did just recently get a 4th adjustment. (2 weeks ago)He had it done in the afternoon because he was tight in the mornings and loosened up in the afternoon, when he had the 3rd it didn't take because of this. They may have tightened down to much to compensate for it. Lioness I don't know when you have heartburn, but if it is in the morning, I had a similar problem. I asked my nurse who had the lapband about 2 years ago and she asked me how close to bedtime I ate. I told her within two hours. and she said that was my problem. I was going to bed before the food left my pouch and it was just sitting there while I slept (I wasn't feeling heartburn in my sleep) then when I got up it would cause the heartburn. At the time, it was my 2nd adjustment. After about 2-3 weeks when my band loosened I didn't have that problem anymore. Eating late has been my biggest problem mainly for work schedule reasons.........and from eating out of depression late at night because of that workplace lol

That is excellent Leo. Donali....thanks for that post (eating box of pizza) I know exactly what you are saying. Not that I still don't want the pizza, but, my body won't let me even eat one piece with out getting the crust stuck Not too big wow, 17 pounds in less than 10 days??? I am so jealous. It took me 2 months to lose that. Congrats. (I know, I know, everyone is different) My mini goal was 235, what I was when my husband fell in love at first sight with me. Man was he blind ha ha Next goal 219 or Misses size 18 whichever comes first. I am tired of the plus sizes. I have gone from a 24w to a 18w so, I can't complain too much

Thanks for the website, it was so great to see everyone's testimonials. And, especially hear from someone who has had the lap band such an extended period of time. I have only known someone who's had it for less than 2 years. I didn't think it would explode after that time, but, I was curious to see if it would have to be replaced after an extended period. I have only had the lapband a little over 7 months. It seems there are alot of newbies, but not many that have had it a while. I liked that you went on the radio to talk about it. Since I am a radio jock myself. I have not talked about it on the radio though. For me it is very personal, but, I admire anyone who does speak candidly about the lapband

Never!!!! don't worry about it

Hey Jennye, I think you got me mixed up with the poster. I am from Tennessee lol I do have relatives in Wisconsin though Denise

glad to see someone in the 280's I started at 282 and am now 236 I got mine in august and didn't really start losing until adjustment 3. I know what you mean about plateauing. With my second fill I lost 5 on first week, but then gained it back and never lot anymore, so don't get discouraged. I think June is fairly realistic for the goal you have set, especially late June. I am out 3 weeks on fill 3 and can just now eat solids. The weightloss has slowed but, I think it's because I was in starvation mode for so long, not being able to eat anything. Excercise will hopefully kickstart my metabolism. Maybe it will help with your June goal too. It's funny how skinny winny's always think people who are overweight just eat too much, if they only knew lol

Babs I don't think you meant to sound harsh, I could see why Shanna took it that way though. Everybody is different in their weight loss and we all have different motivations to lose weight. Some of us are sensitive when someone tells us where or how much we should be on our weight loss. I don't think you meant to hurt her feelings.

My fills are covered under my insurance so I don't pay anything. Some doctors range from 75.00 to 300.00 I believe. Don't quote me on that though

I have not tried beer I heard that was a no no with the carbonation. I have tried wine (zinfadel) and did not have a problem. Also a "mudslide" well actually two of those lol. Didn't have a problem with wine. Did have extreme heartburn with the mudslide the next day. I think I had that before band though. It had been about 10 years since I had one last, so don't remember for sure. As long as you drink in moderation and don't substitute alcohol for meals?? but, I am not an expert. I would talk to a professional who won't tell you not to drink for morality reasons, but for medical reasons. There may be a study about it or something

One year and one fill and you've only gained 5 pounds??? that is great!! I am at 7months and have had 3 fills. It really took the 3rd for me to feel the restriction I needed. Even though you fainted, you might want to go for a second fill. I don't know the cause of your faint, maybe to much of that barium stuff?, the sight of the needle? or nerves? if these are the case I think the 2nd you will do better. I stand up when I am having mine and can't see anything or feel anything except a small prick at first. I always fainted when getting a shot before. The 2nd fill I swallowed way to much of that barium stuff and felt faint, the 3rd I learned from that lesson and even though they manipulated my port for the correct fill, I didn't feel faint. Usually the first fill has little restriction, it is just to teach you how to slow down and chew thoroughly so the fact that you lost as much as you have is really your own doing, more than the fill so you should pat yourself on the back.

I too hope that this site provides you the info you need to learn more about the lapband pro wise and con wise. Of course everyone experiences things differently with the band. I sympathize with you on your mother's loss due to weightloss surgery, and know that must really way heavily on your mind when deciding what to do. For myself, I have not had any health complications from the surgery, in fact it has cured many problems that I had with sleep apnea, female problems, IBS, and just overall well being. Sure, it's depressing when some foods won't go down, and my port area is still sensitive after 7 months but, for me it was the only thing to do. I was 282 and headed for an early grave. It is important that if you do find a doctor to perform lapband surgery to talk to him/her about your past surgeries, health concerns, what happened to your mom and to attend support groups with people who used that doctor for the surgery, long beforehand If he/she is not open enough for you find someone who will be

Hello everyone, I am New
DeniseG replied to Tamazon59's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on your weightloss pre and after surgery. My doc probably wouldn't have approved lapband if I had lost 40 pounds before surgery he was skeptical to refer me to my Lapband doctor, and although for the most part I am happy with my band, I dont know if I would have gotten had i been able to lose that amount of weight before banding, for me it was health issues that drove me to the band. I hope I don't sound like a downer lol It is great that you got a good healthy life style before the band, that is something I am still trying to learn after 7 months -
Brandi, it was so good to hear your story. It was so similar to mine. About the same as far as fills and not much loss. I couldn't drink with my meals though even if I wanted to because if I have any liquids with food I throw up the food. With my second fill, the only thing that would go down was bad for ya food. I think my 3rd fill is finally the charm. I have had it now for 3 weeks and have lost 13 pounds. Granted, I hadn't been able to eat solids (that was hard cause my birthday was last week and I couldn't go out to eat). Today I tried a turkey meatball. it took an hour to eat it, but it was pure heaven. I think for me, I am so use to every diet failing, for the lapband to work would be out of the realm of my thinking. I too, am trying to help it work for me, instead of trying to force it not to. good luck to you
