October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves
zenoosh replied to SkinnyMinnie2Be's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes ma'am! I got mine last week...surgery in October. My mom suggested it (she's an RN, and I work in healthcare also). Its best to get it at least a couple weeks beforehand. Who hangs out in hospitals? SICK PEOPLE! Definitely get yours :-) Great reminder, Susan 2.0. -
Yes, but you don't think religion has been used to pit people against each other? I think it has happened since the beginning of religion! Its happening right now, and will continue forever. Using god as reason to kill....if god is real, do you really think he'd want us killing each other in his/her name? Something stinks, dude....i ain't buyin it... "religion is the opium of the masses..." --Marx

Thanks Susan...seriously...we know that takes time and energy. It is very much appreciated <3<3<3

very interesting... Yes, I believe there is a correlation between atheism/agnosticism and liberalism. I think much of it is education, since generally the more education one acquires, the more ones beliefs (or lack thereof?) are more scientifically oriented. I would also argue that liberals deal more in FACTS. Especially this time around. It seems to be all about low-information , and mis-information. I could go ON AND ON :-) Btw, I have searched for a LIBERAL SLEEVERS group...i think it might be time to start one... ..

October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves

So, here's the dilly: most places have these lemon glycerin swabs they give you for dry mouth. Others bring along a spray that's sold OTC at any drug store...the name escapes me...The most common complication (still rare though) is infection at the incision sites. Make sure the nurses are gloved when they clean/change dressings and wounds. I've heard they usually give us some antibiotic cream for after we leave, si just make sure your hands are clean and you'll do great! The other complications like leaks/strictures are quote wuote rare, and there's nothing you can do to prevent those, except following docs orders and not doing anything you shouldn't do after surgery. Im scared too, but I've done all my homework and im trying to have a really positive attitude. Yes, this is totally huge. Yes its very nerve-wracking and scary..But, so is dying a slow death from obesity and other co-morbidities. You know what you want to do...if you're ready, do everything you can do to make the surgery easier on the surgeon. If you're not ready, its all good! There's time to make a decision one way or the other. :-) -

I have read sooo many posts and a very small number have said they had a lot of pain. Most said they had a general gassy discomfort, but most did not use up their pain meds. A doctor must manage pain adequately. Its their job. Generally, women have a higher pain tolerance (most, not all!) but you mentioned you've got a pretty decent pain tolerance, so I think you're gonna rock this thing! Some mentioned bringing liquid Tylenol (kids, I guess?) but always ask the surgeon before taking anything :-)Good luck, keep us posted :-) -

Dr Garcia Week 2 Postop Diet
zenoosh replied to Readytolose2012's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
there are several post-op diets floating around. What I've heard the most, is stick with liquids until you feel like your sleeve can take more. Then go full liquids (shakes, puddings, lowfat cream soups, no sugar added applesauce, jello, Popsicles, strained soups, blended bean soups ( or very cooked..like super soft )....etc. The other thing I've heard is when you try new things, try them one at a time so you know what works and what does not...i also read that many people did not like their docs post op meal plan, so they searched this forum, and found a ton of others! Main thing is, go slowly, dont even try stuff you know is wrong, and just try to get in protein, fluids and vitamins! Im getting things in advance so I have several options post-op. Im also trying to gather samples from online companies and health food stores... Good luck, and keep us posted... Rock that new sleeve :-) <3 -

Thank you, nurse05.....another happy sleeved healthcare professional. Makes me very happy :-) -
I probably should have clarified..by believing in nothing, I meant if a person chooses NOT to believe or subscribe to a religion or deity. It would be a true feat to believe in absolutely zilch in a broad sense. And I personally believe in lots of things: an all knowing, all powerful creator just happens to NOT be among them. Thanks for allowing me to clarify :-)

October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves

Dude, you so ROCK, Susan...that was fantastic of you to do...awesome! I was also stoked to see my name up there....makes it real! -
I think a higher power can mean any number of things. For some its god, or some other deity, whatever the name might be. For others, its an idea of how we want to live or be or act towards others. For some its a thing or a situation, like a beautiful blooming flower or smelling their children's (or animal companions) hair. To choose your own higher power is what makes us all important, different, unique. To not choose a higher power does not make us any less important, special, or unique. To tell someone what or who they must believe in or think or feel about a higher power, well I think that's a crime. I have no problem with people believing in a higher power and sharing their beliefs with others. I do have a problem with people saying I have a problem if I choose to believe in nothing.

Thank you so much for posting! I think I've heard more people going to Dr Garcia this summer than any other doc, in Mexico and certainly the states. Im very confident in my choice and it really solidifies it when I hear stories like yours....and everyone, it seems, tells the same story about Dr Garcia and the staff at MiDoctor.keep us posted :-) -
Help My Hair Is Falling Out!
zenoosh replied to Tinka504's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anytime we lose a lot of weight, is go through massive changes and stress, we lose hair. Its kind of a normal thing for WLS. There ate many topics on this. Search above in forums and see what others have been through, and what they've done about it. From everything I've read, it will grow back! You notice because its your head, but I bet others will notice your weight loss, not the hair loss :-) -

Usually miso has little squares of tofu, which is pretty benign stuff, but id say just drink the broth...miso broth is awesome, and it'll give us the liquid, the sodium, and the warm healing feeling in our new little sleeved tummies! Bring a couple packets with you. Im doing the same...otherwise, I got some of the Herb-Ox bullion powder AND some of the Swanson flavor boost concentrated stuff. I know they're both tasty and easy to make. Another person mentioned that they used the coffee maker in the hotel to warm up water for broth, and then kept it warm using that too. They also have broth at the hotel, Gatorade, Popsicles....i dont think we're gonna do much chowing (or sipping) , but its nice to know they've got what we need, and apparently there are stores very close by.

Calling All Dr Garcia Patients...
zenoosh replied to ready2bskinny's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
It does help! Thanks a lot, sleevers! I feel ready. I feel like I've done more than enough research. As far as Dr Garcia and Mi doctor hospital, there are many topics and posts regarding him and the facility. For those new to the forum, use the search feature and type in 'Dr. Garcia Mexico'. I found a bunch of info and experiences regarding surgery, the hotel, broth, what to bring, etc, etc...again, thanks to all who have posted, and reposted their experiences. It makes us pre-oppers feel much better knowing you're out there safe, healthy, and happy with your sleeves. :-) -
Ha! That's funny.. ;-)Yeah, especially with that 66 lbs you 've lost!!Good one to wake up to...

Stupid Question .... Protein Shakes
zenoosh replied to ShrinkyDinkMe22's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've heard of many people sticking with shakes forever, if thats what they like to do instead of a meal...Like others mentioned, I dont think you'd wanna use' em as the sole source of protein ( unless you're still doing liquids and shakes early on, post-op ). It kinda depends on the shake, too...Using high carb, or high sugar shakes for meals or snacks can end up being a bunch of liquid calories you might not want or need, but people who work out a lot, or do heavy duty exercise might need those extra calories, although its prob better to drink a lower-carb, high protein shakes post-op since post-sleevers say they dont tolerate sugary stuff too well.... -
