How can I get Blue Cross to cover it?
ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to dsleon's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
what laura said. you probably need your surgeon to write up documentation stating that its causing problems. then its medically necessary. -

SF Jello Jigglers for pre-op Clear Liquid Diet?
ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to PGee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
honestly not sure what the difference between regular sf jello and jigglers is. but i ate a lot of it on the preop diet. especially when i wanted to "eat". just keep in mind the day before surgery they typically say no red or purple jello or liquids . -
Surgeon trying to talk me into band.
ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to bigbeauty78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
no they can not withhold them. however its typically quicker to have the new dr request them than it is for you to request them. just my experience though. you will have to sign a paper giving the dr rights to get the results. but they should be able to do it via fax or electronic fax through computers. -

All of my December sleevers...
ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to blkdiamond377's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i'm starting to feel like i am done losing and i still have 74lbs to go to goal. i started at 332, dos i was 300, today i am 238. the last few months i have been traveling a lot for work and its starting to take a toll on my weight loss. its hard to stay on track. especially when i sit in the hotel on the weekends. we are in a bad area and have a rental car or 4 people to share. i go to the gym but i am just not motivated to do anything and i talk myself out of a good workout. my weight loss is SLOW. the middle of may i was 244, today i am 238, almost 3 months later. i have let carbs slip back in a bit. i just don't feel like that is the problem with how little we can eat. but maybe it is. i just feel like i am done losing and it freaks me out. i do get all my water in and my protein. just feeling really blah and i miss my family. i dont know what to do to reset? go back to basics? do a 2 week liquid diet again? any thoughts or suggestions would be great. -

Outpatient VS Inpatient?
ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to Goddardgo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
for me personally i would not do this as an outpatient. like a few have stated so much can go wrong after and i personally would rather be at the hospital. after i woke up from surgery i was very sick and throwing up for a couple hours after. i am glad they didnt ship me out. i was scared because i was throwing up blood from surgery. and it honestly freaked me out. i actually ended up staying for 4 days due to my new tummy swelling so much that i couldn't get fluids down. so i had to stay until i could pass my leak test. i was sleeved on a Monday and was discharged Thursday night. i completely understand the financial aspect of this. the hospital charged my insurance almost 72k for my stay!!! however i dont think i would of felt comfortable going home right away. also having a small complication i couldnt go home. -

ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to gia24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
what you are feeling is perfectly normal! i think part of doing all your research is knowing all the complications that could happen. and for me that is what was creating anxiety. also for me i had never had any type of surgery so the whole thing was a new experience for me. for me personally i was a basket case the 3 weeks leading up to surgery. the day before surgery i gave my 3 year old a hug and a kiss and i was balling. i was convinced i wasn't going to see her again. but the morning of surgery i was completely at ease with my decision and i knew i was making the right decision. i trusted my surgeon and the place i was going. i knew i was in good hands. also if you feel it will make you personally feel better. tell your hubby how you are feeling. for me it helped to talk about it and i learned my husband had some of the same fears and worries. hopefully this helps you a bit. if you have any questions feel free to pm me. -
Need advice from Veteran Sleevers

Surgeon trying to talk me into band.
ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to bigbeauty78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i would definitely get a second opinion. there are so many doctors out there. is he not comfortable with performing the sleeve? how many sleeve gastrectomies has this surgeon and practice performed? there is a reason he is pushing the band. according to my surgeon and his group they claim the band with will taken away in the coming years do to its inefficiency and complication rate. a lot of band patients end of converting to the sleeve or rny. definitely do research and i would definitely find a different doctor and see what they say. that is just my opinion of course but i wouldn't be comfortable with that response from him. also i have gerd prior to getting sleeved. mine actually got better since being sleeved. i know some people who did not have reflux prior to getting sleeved get it after but mine seems to have gotten better. i do still take a ppi but preop i did as well but i still had bouts of reflux. now i don't ever have problems unless i eat and then lay down too soon. i have woken up choking on acid 3 times from doing that. -
Can I drink as fast as is comfortable?
ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to VSG_Barbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i followed the sipping rule the first 6 weeks. once i felt healed and i felt i could take more in i started drinking more and taking bigger drinks. but i am now almost 8 months out. -
Need advice from Veteran Sleevers
ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to teachartmw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i would say anything that you know you have to give up post op start working on it now. for me soda was a big one. i gave it up in october and was sleeved in december. i have read posts from people who kinda forgot about soda and when they were starting their liquid diets were dying bc they wanted pop. its hard enough to give up food for weeks but to also have to focus on the soda, makes it that much harder. i also started cutting back on sweets and carbs and incorporated a protein drink into my day to sort of prep for surgery. i also like the previous poster spent hours a night and week reading positive stories, negative stories, stories of complications. i wanted to be as prepared as i could be in case something happened. i wanted to know what my options were if X happened and what the signs and symptom to watch for etc. good luck to you!!! -
I know I have messed up :(
ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to KATHYBUSH2013's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i dont have much to add. everyone else said what i was going to offer was get back to basics. maybe do a 2 week liquid diet again. that will help with carb cravings and will probably also help shrink your tummy a little bit. are you getting enough water in every day? i am a visual person and i would write down what your plan is to do. keep track of your water and start tracking food again using my my fitness pal or something like that. -

Thank you guys for the suggestions! Sorry I've been out of town and every place I've been has had shitty Internet and AT&T coverage. I do take iron which I didn't think was the problem because I was on it preop but I guess it is possible! Thank you!!! -

Tmi alert..... Ever since being sleeved in december my bm schedule has completely changed. Preop I would go 2, sometimes 3 times a day. Now I seem to go about every 5 days or so. And when I do go it's a lot. Like so much that I keep clogging potty's. Sorry this is embarrassing..... But what can I take to help go more often. Any advice would be great. I never had this problem before surgery so I'm not sure what to do. -

Has Anyone Managed To Keep Surgery Completely Private?
ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to bettyboo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I initially started out only telling my hubby. Once I got approved I told my 3 lifelong girlfriends and also my siblings. They were all really really supportive. Little by little and as I got more comfortable with my decision I started telling more and more people. I think i was almost ashamed and embarrassed that it came to having surgery that I wanted no one to know. But now that I see what a change it has made in my life I wanted to share my story with others. Last week I through it all out on fb. Letting everyone know my reasons for doing it, how I felt about it, how scared I was doing it and scared what would happen if I didn't do it. I finally hit a point where I want my story to help others find the help that they might need to get healthy. Not sure if that helps you at all. PM if you have questions.
