Thoughts on Dr. Almanza
JamesHRN replied to Tiny2019's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
All I can say is I had Dr Almanza do my surgery in July 2012 I had great results and would have him do it all over again -
Hi falling angel I have the same issue but it is because at least for me that with the weight loss comes lower blood pressure when you make a sudden change in position the lower blood pressure tries to compensate which causes light headedness just keep this in mind and change your positions slowly it happens with people who have not even had VSG

I would do some research on patients that have had bypass and later had to go to the sleeve to loose the weight. It is called sleeve over bypass surgery. -

I have never know of any other form besides pill form But I will say I do not know everything. Micromedex is the online source I used

JamesHRN replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
JP do you think the the FDA would allow alcohol to be legal if it was to strip off paint it is a different alcohol it is just like DON'T swallow gum cause it will stick you stomach together it is wives tale -
Alcohol and 2 weeks post op!
JamesHRN replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started having my glass of wine at about 6 weeks out I have had no issues I would say that because alcohol is a blood thinner there is a risk of bleeding with a new surgery on your stomach and the stomach needs time to heal. I would also just like to put something out there why do people think that the sleeve is some sort of special surgery and ask some very odd questions. It is a surgery just like surgery anywhere else in your body. It has also been around for many years but was perfected a few years ago it was just not used for weight loss but to fix bleeding stomachs then it was discovered that with the procedure it kept people from gaining weight and would also cause weight loss due to the new size of the stomach. I have known of patients that have talked about it and knowing people have a similar surgery back in the 50's for bleeding ulcers and wow they lost weight. I am just putting this out there -

Newbie: Trying to decide
JamesHRN replied to HealthyTeacher1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would also do some research regarding the recall of lap bands by the FDA in recent months. I just felt the complications from the band made it not an option for me and chose the band -
Newbie: Trying to decide
JamesHRN replied to HealthyTeacher1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had considered the band but went with the sleeve because there are lots of issues with the band I also took into account the length of time before you get your first fill which for me would have been about 6-8 weeks after surgery to allow the stomach to heal. Then you will have to continue to do follow up ever few weeks to have band adjustments here that would cost $200 each time some are cheaper some are more I am very happy with my sleeve I am now 6 months out I reach my goal weight at 4 months and now down a total of 120 pounds I had lost 110 pounds at 4 months and have not been really trying to lose anymore but happy to lose a few more pounds -
10 days post op and feeling weak and tired, is this normal?
JamesHRN replied to lissa2270's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you are getting plenty of water and plenty of protein -
Orothoman all I did was walking some I ate my Protein drank my Water and then ate my carbs I never deprived myself of anything because I told myself from the beginning that I was not on a diet they will always fail you I was doing a lifestyle change. I haven't been at 160 pounds for more than 20 years so I do know how you feel. Let me know if I can answer any questions I did limit my high carb foods but if I wanted a piece of cake I had it just much smaller than before I never tried to over eat although I did eat to much to fast a few times and it come back out.
-
Orthoman it gets easier I lost 110 pounds in 4 months and met my goal weight and past it by just hang in there I have not found anything that I can not eat now but it is very limited I was eating steak at about 2 months out but believe me you won't eat the whole steak in one sitting. I am now 6 months out and down about 120 pounds from 280 pounds to 160 now I feel so much better now and no blood pressure meds

Which surgery would you have first?
JamesHRN replied to DeterminedGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would do the VSG first because with weight loss it will help with recovery of the knee surgery in my case after loosing weight my knees and ankle and feet stopped hurting
