Anyone using a Fitbit?
ssriley replied to Strangefruit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a Droid app so I assume there is an Iphone app as well. -
I've been drinking it since about 10 days out. Can't stand it black though and have used sugar free flavored creamer the entire time. Losing weight is important - but so is quality of life.

I just switched to an acid reducer when I ran out of Prilosec OTC, and I noticed what seemed like a rebound effect myself. I hadn't heard that the PPI carry more risk. Why is that?

Sharp stinging and burning pains
ssriley replied to Tiffany Winn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a sharp burning pain on the left side that didn't start till 6 weeks out and occured when getting up our bending over to put on my shoes. Thankfully it only lasted about 10 days, and the doc said it was a nerve in the healing process. At 6 months out that whole area is numb - pretty much no feeling at all on the surface. -
I take a stool softener every day with my vitamins and that seems to keep things running ok. It's still about every 3 days but that's my new regular I guess.

Weight loss normal track?
ssriley replied to deeriggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I as down 20-lbs my first week and a total of 26-lbs after 2 weeks. I'm 6 months out now and have been weighing and plotting my weight every day just for curiousity's sake. I've attached the latest pdf. You can see some dramatic up's and downs with holidays and birthdays, etc., but it always seems to find it's way back to the trend line. And I am not a big exercizer and am known to have a nip now and then (OK two nips). Graphing my weightloss has helped me to be patient and look at the big picture. My Diet Track.pdf -
Premier Protien at Sam's. They are 30 gms of Protein - 1 gm of sugar - 160 cals. Already mixed so tugs at my lazy side too. It is getting easier to stomach the shakes the farther out I get from surgery. (6 months out now)

pain after drinking something cold .......anyone else?
ssriley replied to LHT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 6 months out and and still prefer my drinks just cool, not cold. It's not so much that I can't handle the cold in my stomach, but I'm so cold natured now it seems to drop my core temp too much and chill me out. -
I'm 6 months out and still feel much colder than pre-surgery, especially with cold weather moving in. Maybe it will get better when we get to maintenance mode and our calories go up?

Favorite Things To Sip On!
ssriley replied to SeriouslyChange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get the 32 oz Power-Ade Zero's. I drink one a day, and with my other drinks I know I'm over 64 oz's. I still have an aversion to drinking water at 5 1/2 months post-op for some reason. -
How Do You Know When You're Full
ssriley replied to SeriouslyChange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I may be weird, but I'll get a few hiccups when I'm topped off, or start to sneeze., If I go any more I'll feel the dreaded lump in the chest. Cottage Cheese is a slider with me if its on the runny side, but if dry it will let me know when I'd better stop. When on soft foods I used the 3oz paper Dixie cups to measure my food and help keep me from making myself uncomfortable. I used plastic spoons too. My wife loved it since it was the first time in our marriage I wasn't creating any dirty dishes, at all. -
When Will The Exhaustion And Queezy Feeling End
ssriley replied to dlinnh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt the same way for my first 4 weeks. I was still leaning on the shower wall at 3 weeks out - then at the 4 week mark I realized that I felt pretty good and was getting my mojo back. I guess it takes a while for our bodies to adjust to the change in energy source. Hang in there - it gets a lot better soon. -
Sleep Apnea Cured? How/when Did You Know?
ssriley replied to ArcusX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried it without the CPAP at about 3 months and my wife says I'm quiet enough for her to sleep - but I still try to stay on my side to minimize the chances of some purring noise. -
Tools For Eating For Those Measuring Portions
ssriley replied to Boofster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When eating soft foods I used the 3 oz paper bathroom cups. Three oz/ was my limit at the time, and tossed after one use. -
What's The Longest Time You've Been In A Stall?
ssriley replied to Ms.Rosie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 3 weeks post-op I stalled for 3 weeks. I'm at 5 months and stalled for 4 weeks currently. Ready to move on any time now. -
Whats The Worst Thing You've Eaten Post Op?
ssriley replied to suzjag's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Big wedge of carrot cake on my birthday. Nose was back to the grindstone the next day. Life is good. -
What Do You Use To Measure Your Foods?
ssriley replied to fgotr121's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used the little 3 oz paper Dixie cups when in my soft stage. Three oz's was about my limit and helped to train myself on what 3 oz's looked like. It was easy to nuke in the microwave and then just toss when I was done. -

Stabbing/burning Pain
ssriley replied to nicole836's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same thing last for about a week when I was a month post-op. Hot knife when I would bend over to tie my shoes or get up from a couch, etc. Doc said the nerves were healing and was totally normal. All good since then. -
Feels Like Air Is Trapped When I Eat
ssriley replied to Nick'sMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Trapped air is probably my biggest issue after WLS. I work long hours and have to grab meals quickly and in the rush I forget to chew my food properly. Some foods are forgiving and give up the trapped air quickly, but it seems the denser meals trap it and can really make me uncomfortable. In those cases I've found I can take a small sip of water to help things separate and relieve the pressure. (Read burp) Not enough water to draw the drinking with meals police though. -
I went back to my two cups with sugar-free vanilla creamer every morning when I was ~2 weeks post-op I think, and have had no problems. Life is good.

High Protein "snack" Ideas.... Lets Start A List To Refer To When We Need Ideas
ssriley replied to WLJourneyJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pork Rinds. Zero carbs and great with salsa / picante sauce/guacamole/cottage cheese, etc. Sometimes you just want something crunchy. -
Holy Hell?! Why Does It Cost So Much?!
ssriley replied to AStephenson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon hasn't done any blood work at all. I've had 3 post-op visits in 3 1/2 months and he basically said "you're doing great - don't stop". See ya in two months. The odds that you are going to have a problem when post-op directly attributable to the sleeve I believe are very small. Good luck and try not to worry about possibilities. I try to focus on today's issues and deal with the problems then when they occur. We have enough to deal with every day, don't we? PS: I'm a self-pay too and the Dr. took a routine sample for pathology during surgery which ended up costing me $1400. Surprise! All good since then. -
Finally Frustrates Enough To Post About It
ssriley replied to Justine13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm about 3 1/2 months post-op and have weighed every day and plotted my weight out of curiousity. You can see my stalls and even many weight gains, but the trend is always down. My intake averages 700-900 cals/day, get my exercise thru my job, (walk 1-2 miles/day) and includes an occasional mixed drink too (or two). Unless you're hitting the DQ drive-thru on a regular basis, the math says you are going to lose weight. Keep your eye on the prize and good luck. My Diet Track.pdf -
I too am about 3 1/2 months post-op and your capacity is similar to mine. One 5 oz. pack of tuna with a bit of light mayo and sugar free relish and I'm topped off.
