Im new here and to being banded!
dylanmiles23 replied to schaunabimler's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations!! The gas pain is awful, try a heating pad. I had the band in July and every day take liquid colace to help with movements. They gave it to me when I left the hospital along with Zantac for one month and pain meds, all liquids. If you get bored with all liquids, try SF Popsicles. I love them and it makes you feel almost like you are eating. Good luck with the new you! -
well the weather was wrong again in Boston. I was to get 1-3" of snow. I have around 20" and it has not stopped yet!!! I shouldn't complain because last year we had no snow. Have a sunny day where ever you are.

Hi and welcome. I chose the band because there is no major cutting of the insides and it can be removed if need be. You lose weight slower at a real nice pace and you can control everything. I know of about 6-10 people who had the bypass and they gained back and then some. The band and every other WLS is a tool and you have to learn to control the tool and want it to work for you. I had the band in July at almost 62 and it is the best thing I ever did for me. The weight comes off slower but I am happy with that. I gained the weight over many years so I can wait. I would recommend the band to any one who wants to try WLS for their health and longer life. Good luck with your choice.

Thinking about joining a gym/need inspiration...
dylanmiles23 replied to jennygirl37's topic in Fitness & Exercise
When I joined the gym the middle of December, I could only do 5 minutes on the recumbent at that time. My husband could do 3 minutes on the tread mill. We both have improved since then. Who cares? I tried the elliptical but can only do 1-3 minutes because of a bad knee and I don't care what others think of me doing such a short time on it. I have since given up. Join the gym and be happy with you. -
An addicts successful realization.

You're on the right site. You talk, we all listen and learn from each other. I never smoked but my husband and 2 sons did and I know they had lots of trouble quitting. Very happy for you. Good luck with your new Band. -
I have trouble chewing bacon and pork. I don't eat ham, though. the only pork I eat are spareribs from one Chinese restaurant because they have the world's best! Try and see if they agree. I am from Boston and we are famous for lobster, I can only chew the claws now. Everyone is different. Enjoy the bacon.

Wonderful news!!!!!!!!! I am very happy for you.

Sorry to hear about all your bad luck. I don';t think you are from my support group. Are you from the Boston area? The person from my group had her band around July, 2012 when I did.

WOW!! congratulations. You look super and should be very proud of your hard work. I love looking at people that do well. That makes me see the light at the end of the tunnel. -
a woman at my support group tried to get the group into believing that the wrap works. She said the next time you see me I will look different. That was around September. She has not been to a meeting since. Go figure! i have lots of skin hanging and I am not near goal yet. So how often do you need to be wrapped? How much $$$$$$$.

It hurts for under 30 seconds. I have had 3 fills so far. No biggie. Good luck.

For pre-op I could have a small meal a day and I spread it out. I would have my one cup of salad and an hour later the protein part. It helped me. Also, SF Popsicles are wonderful to have. I have them all the time. After dinner they are great. Good luck with the new you!

my gym is open 24/7 and I usually go around 2-3pm and it is empty. I love that. -

Congrats! on your weight loss. I finally joined a gym in December with my husband. I am not the largest woman there and there are a lot of very large men. I know that is important. I use the recumbent bike and a few machines. I do well with this right now. My membership includes any classes I want but I don't feel ready right now for them. I was told that you can go at your own pace just stand in the back. They have a spinning class but I can not do more than 20-30 minutes now so that is out. 3 days a week they have a senior class which I haven't tried yet that tones and stretches. I guess I feel weird doing a class but some day i will try them. I live in Boston so you have to exercise inside during the winter. Join, maybe they have a trial membership for one month. I pay $20. per month and can bring a guest everyday with me so my husband is free and that includes all the classes but for me only. -
Advice for Seminar Tonight?
dylanmiles23 replied to laydlyke's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love my monthly meetings. They usually have a topic and we can ask any questions we want. We sometimes go around the room and tell what type of surgery we have had or are thinking of. Tell our weight loss. I have learned a real lot at these. My husband usually goes with me and has learned from the dietitian a lot about carbs (he is a diabetic). Bringing a note book is a great idea, too At one meeting one other bander, sort of took over the meeting (she was rude-I thought) but she explained the Fitbit and now I own one. Have fun tonight. I have mine next Thursday which is good because Boston is having another snow storm right now. -
I gulp my iced tea all the time and have never had a problem. Not even when I did drink and eat together, which I don't anymore. I have never felt my band tight either, so i don't know what that feels like. I like learning about everyone's views on drinking. thanks!

I am an over drinker, iced tea or water. My doctor told me no drinks for 30 minutes before and after every meal. It was a hard habit to break but I am getting good at no drinks. My hardest time is Chinese restaurants because I love Chinese tea. Just ask your doctor and or dietitian. They all have different rules. If you go to the support groups offered, that is a great subject to bring up, also. I went to the groups for 9 months before I had the Band and loved them all and learned a lot. I still go to them.

I had my gallbladder out a few months after my oldest son was born 38 years ago. I was told that when a shock happens to your body, the baby, other parts of the body change. Like the gallbladder would have had to be removed many years later but the baby made it happen sooner. Maybe the band had the same effect. I am not a medical professional but it sounds like the same thing. Good luck with everything.

Should I stay or should I go...asked the band.

Sorry to hear about your insides. Follow the doctors orders. I am happy the band did help you lose 90 lbs. That is amazing. -
That was wonderful. Were you really thinking to yourself-that fish is killing you? Fat in the veins and fat on the hips. That is how I have been thinking lately. Awful but true. I love to read of great success in people's lives. This is one of them.

I bought mine at the AT&T store and they sell them at Brookstone and Best Buy. So if you have trouble go to one of those stores. It may just need a new battery. They really don't come with any instructions. It was hook up to the computer and do your own thing. Good luck.

Starting the process.
dylanmiles23 replied to MyCosita's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Because of hospital changes where I went, I waited almost 10 months. During that time I went to all the monthly support meetings. I started drinking the protein shakes 5 months before the band, also. I still have them every morning for my breakfast. Another good thing to do is walk. Try it, it may help with your weight loss, also. Keep logging onto this site and learn and ask questions. We don't judge, but tell the truth and always try to help. Good luck!!!!!! -
When I put the Fitbit on the charger it lights up and shows if it is charged. There is a button on it also you can push. I love the Fitbit. I can see how I am doing with food, like the protein and water. I also keep track of my activities. Very good purchase for me.
-
Never for me. I have had stuck food and I walk it off. It was caused from eating too fast.
-
You'e doing nothing wrong. I stay within 3-5 pounds all the time and I over drink. I know when I have certain foods, there is more water retention. I also go by monthly measurements. Today was my measure day and forgot so i will do it tomorrow morning. Don't beat yourself up. The weight took more than one month to get on the body and it will take more than one month to say good bye. I think you're doing fine with your numbers.
