  1. Wonderful post. Thank you. I love hearing the good, bad and ugly. It is the only way to learn everything. Being mean to others is awful, that is why we read the Enquirer.
  2. got purple nail polish in honor of MIL's 90th b. day party tomorrow. She only wears purple.

    face lift tapes

Has anyone ever tried the face lift tapes? I would love a face lift but don't have the money and was wondering if the tapes work? Are they comfortable? etc. Thank you for your help.

    Newbie to group

Welcome and good luck. The band is the best thing I ever did and I hope you will feel the same way. This site is amazing and a life saver, my words. People ask the best and silliest and just weird questions and we all support each other and it's great. Just remember the band is a tool and you have to work with it for it to work. Some people try to challenge the band but why have surgery if you are going to be like that. Follow your doctor and dietitian's rules and you will do great. Each one has their own ways of doing things.

    reply to hair loss

I have been out all day and saw much earlier or yesterday a question about hair loss. At my monthly support group tonight was the rep from Bariatric Advantage. Her name is, Pat, I think. Pat had bypass surgery 10 years ago. She still looks great. About 4 years ago she started to lose her hair. She had a blood test and her Ferritin showed up very low, around 2 and she said it should be around 40ish. She had to have some medical things done to her but her hair is very healthy now. So she said if you have hair loss get tested for this Ferritin. She also said you have to keep up with your annual blood work because people that have WLS do lose some vitamins and minerals and don't know it. Have a great evening everyone. Arlene

    my husband/gym partner

Today I needed to go to KMart, about 5 miles from the house. So my husband came with me so we could go to the gym after. We got to the car and he asked for me to bring him home. I asked what's wrong and he said, I am lazy and don't feel like going. I said, no excuse, and I drove us to the gym. I enjoyed it and he sort of did and he admitted he was happy he went. The other day it was nice weather in Boston and not too far away we have wonderful outlet shopping. My husband and I walked all over, 4500 steps. He has been very sick for almost 2 years and this is the most walking he has done since. It was wonderful, outside and walking. Exercise has become very important to me, just that I blew 40 years away of not being active except I learned to ski at 40 but quit after 4-5 years because of knee troubles and my NH house had a rodent problem and I refused to go there so I rented it and finally sold it. The house was in the woods with deer in the yard and hunters all over the place. Funny story-(I wear fur!) My sons would tell me during hunting season to go out walking with the fur on. Nice sons. Have a fun exercise day and keep moving!!!!!!!!!

    Scared and on the fence!

I think it is great that you have a doctor that cares about your health. The band can be removed, if need be. Bypass and the sleeve can not be removed. The sleeve they remove most of your stomach and being so young I would never even consider that. The few people I know who had bypass after about 6-10 years they are all large again. What do your parents think? I have a 34 year old son who has been obese most of his life and he is finally watching what he eats. Maybe go to the meetings they have at the local hospital. I am going to my monthly support group tomorrow night. I love them and learn a lot and talk with other people. My group has all 3 types of surgery patients. Last month about 6 people were still deciding on what surgery to have wish you a lot of luck with your choices. I know I wish the band was around many years ago. The best thing I have done for myself in years. I am much older than you, 62 1/2. Arlene

    Calories, Calories, Calories

I use a Fitbit to record all my intake and movements. But there are many free sites that people talk about. Fitness Pal is one of them. You write in what you cook and I guess it helps with the calories.

    Salad

Ken's Steak House is very old and elegant style but people now go in jeans. They offer all you can eat salad that is sprayed with their Italian dressing. My MIL thinks the restaurants dressings are better than the bottled. I guess different factory. They have wonderful onion rolls, I never tasted one-maybe 3-4. I use their lite Cesaer to marinade everything.

New band patient and I may have messed up.

By eating other than what the doctor or dietitian recommends can hurt the surgery. Your band area has to heal, you had major surgery. Maybe call your dietitian tomorrow and ask for help. I had a lot of sf Popsicles. Good luck.

    Salad

I eat salad almost every day but I have never had dressing in my life. I know-I am weird. But have you tried spraying the salad. In a suburb of Boston there is a very famous steak house, Ken's and they are famous for their salads and they are sprayed. A salad maker told my MIL years ago. They sell the spray bottles but it is most likely cheaper to get your own bottle and spray.

    So Random

I have been banded since July but have been having a protein shake for breakfast for 14 months and I am not sick of them. They are super thick with tons of ice. I also use 2 scoops of protein, I know that is a lot but it fills me for 4-6 hours. I have the small Hamilton Beach blender that doubles as a drinking cup. I have mini ice cube trays and use a whole tray in each shake with 8 oz skim milk.

    Vents

My weight goes between 193 and 195 for about one month now. I don't get it either and I am very past TOM's. I see my doctor next week but I am down since my visit with him in February.

    Hung to Dry

I am so sorry to hear you got so sick. Do Not Give Up!! We are all here to try to help you. I have had my PCP call and make appointments for me with specialists. Would yours with the Band people? I have never eaten 1/2 cup of anything. I eat more than that. I have under 3 cc in a 10 band. Try mind over matter and don't think about the band's liquid think about your health and try to retrain yourself to have less food. I wish you luck with everything.

    I hate fish...

I am not a fish fan either. I was at a party and they passed around cubes of salmon in sesame seeds with an Asian sauce and since then I am hooked on salmon. I thought it was swordfish, which I like. I pan cook it and make it almost black and crispy.
