MA - Massachusetts
dylanmiles23 replied to leapyear's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Good luck. I had my band at BI, Boston but now see my doctor at the Milton-BI. He goes to both. I used Dr. Schneider. Who is doing your surgery? I found the WLS center wonderful and all the staff is great and my stay overnight was good. Arlene -
I have my fitbit for almost 2 years and love it. I don't remember if it's the one or ultra. They didn't have the bracelet when I got mine. I don't record food anymore because I am very lazy.

MA - Massachusetts
dylanmiles23 replied to leapyear's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi. I am from Randolph a little south of Boston. I have had the band for 2 years and love it. I feel all WLS help people and each person chooses what is best for them. Good luck! I had my surgery at the BI in Boston. Arlene -
Hi everyone. I am so bad, I read everything but never comment. Sorry. I have been very busy with family. Tomorrow is my 2 year bandversary and I have only lost around 75 pounds. I know that is nothing to be ashamed of but if I tried harder, it would be a lot more. I haven't been to the gym in weeks because I have been busy. Tomorrow I am running around. Friday I am going to the Finger Lakes in NY for a wedding. Should be fun except I hate long car rides because of back and knee problems and need to stop every 1 1/2 hours and walk. It's 6 hours from Boston. It's my son's friend so we rented a house with my son and his family. The reception is a beach party with BBQ, ice cream truck and a live band. So shorts it is. I won't wear a swim suit in front of all these people. I am buying from GNC some ready made shakes which I had tried once and thought it tasted good. I always carry Protein bars with me too. Well everyone have a great Happy Hump Day tomorrow. Arlene

You are doing so great!!! Good for you. -
Wow. About your friend. She needs help. Congratulations on you doing well. I love my band. It's almost 2 years for me. I thought I would be lighter but I am not perfect and don't exercise enough. My problem not the band.

Sorry to hear your husband isn't well.

I have been using Body Fortress in chocolate for over 2 years. My wonderful recipe is: 8 oz. unsweetened vanilla almond milk 1-scoop the powder about 1-teaspoon decaf instant coffee about 1-teaspoon peppermint extract tons of ice The shake is as thick as McDonald's and delicious. I am drinking mine now. I have 1 every morning for Breakfast. I have a small Hamilton Beach blender that measures your milk and also is a drinking mug. It cost under $20. Good luck. Arlene

Hello everyone. I haven't been writing much lately but I do read a lot of your thoughts, feelings, goods and bads. I enjoy keep up with everyone. In one week will be 2 years for me and my life change, The Lap Band!! I love it and it treats me well when I treat it well. Yesterday, I thought I was good and got stuck at lunch. I had cucumber and lump crab meat (both plain). Weird. Over the past year I have been around the same weight but lately up 5-10 pounds. I can not buy me nuts anymore. I eat too many. I also, don't exercise enough. At a breakfast/lunch restaurant in my town the owner had the band 5 years ago and after working from 5am until 3pm every day he walks 5 miles a day up and down hills. He is great, I am not that great at all. My Fitbit says a do 4-5000 steps a day. I feel that is great but my doctor wants 10,000 a day. I have never down that. I belong to many FB groups with WLS as the main topic. One woman is doing her own non surgery plastic surgery. She showed a picture of her bat wings and 6 months later(yesterday) she has wonderful muscles from doing weight lifting. Her stomach she said is getting flatter but she still has thigh skin. She should be a poster woman for all of us that have 'skin issues', me included. She made me want to try weight lifting. Start small with baby steps. I read some where about using the 16oz bottles of water and use them to start. They are less money than weights, just in case you don't like doing this. Everyone have a great day. Enjoy this wonderful summer. Arlene

I NEED to hear success stiries from long time banders!
dylanmiles23 replied to unsupersizeme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My 2 year is next week. Best thing I ever did was the band. It tells me when to stop eating, when I took a too large of a bite I would do it again. All my insides are still there. My doctor does small fills. I had 4 of them for a total of 2.8. I feel I am fine with this. Some people have huge amounts in their bands. Every doctor is different. Good luck. -
I'm 5'5" , 370# which surgery?
dylanmiles23 replied to MichelleTN's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I belong to many WLS groups. One woman had the band 10 years ago. She is down 250. She has a web site and does support groups. She looks amazing. The thing I love about the band is my insides are not cut or removed. Do what you want not what society says. Good luck with which ever one you decide to do. -
Still on the fence, what does a day in the life look like?
dylanmiles23 replied to ren0318's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no regrets either. Next week is 2 years for me. I am far from perfect but I am down around 70-80 but would like to lose more. My thing is I don't exercise enough. I am also nearly 64. Wish I did this many years ago. I am off all meds. I take vitamins and minerals every day. Your doctor will help with that. I love my morning protein shakes. As for food I am a weird eater. I eat out almost every day. I try to get a salad in every day so that I eat some veggies. I am not a big veggie eater. Good luck -
I have had 3 dietitians but same doctor. They all have their own thoughts on the meal plans. #2 I liked the best. She said there are no, no-nos just be smart. #3 believes in totally eliminating foods for life. She doesn't believe in sf jello , oatmeal or protein bars just to name a few. Follow what you were told. Good luck.

Help! Surgery is today, I'm suffering from terrible shortness of breath
dylanmiles23 replied to Bruce120's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats !! Happy you insisted on staying. When I had the band they sent me home with heavy duty pain meds. Make sure you get something. The pain is from the gas. Walking and a heating pad help. Some people take GasX. I never did so ask. Feel better. Remember follow your doctors rules not someone else's. Arlene. -
Good luck with your new journey. I lost 20 pounds pre op. I did it by giving up breakfast and having protein shakes. As far as telling people. Most people don't know. I don't share with anyone how much I weighed or how much I lost. No ones business. I don't want people to say, Arlene , you didn't look that big or you want to lose how much more. My youngest son is pissed I won't tell any if this. Do what is comfortable for you

50-60% Excess weight loss in 2 years
dylanmiles23 replied to *Jade*'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Everyone is different. I have the band. I lost 60% of my BMI in under 1 year. I have been around the same weight for over 1 year. My doctor is thrilled. I would like to lose 40-50 more. Time will tell. I didn't gain it all in 1-3 years. -
Is it ok to drink out of a straw?
dylanmiles23 replied to catlover602's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the band and was told the same thing. So it's 2 years and I don't miss the straw. Also using straws cause wrinkles around the mouth. -
Mortified of band failure
dylanmiles23 replied to blacktxbelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nothing is 100% in life. I learned that when my son was having surgery at 2 1/2 , he is now 39. The doctor said you can die crossing the street. He needed surgery for being chicken breasted. I never looked at sites before the band. I went to monthly meetings and that was it. Just remember with the band you still have your insides. Good luck with your journey -
Looking for a band buddy to occasionally text with
dylanmiles23 replied to rcm1216's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I get you. I have been the same weight for 1 year. It's not goal weight either. My doctor is fine with my weight but I would like to lose 40-50 more. My cardiologist wants 20 gone by next June. I have restriction I just eat wrong. Like ice cream tonight. I even bought it. Good luck. I am here if you want to talk about it. I am from Boston Arlene -
We have become great friends without faces ( I don't know how to post ) we encourage each other and we support one another. We share the good , bad and ugly. We can talk about things that we don't share with our non WLS people. Thank you all for being there Happy 4th!! I enjoy reading everything even if I don't post like I use to. Been busy with family shit. Arlene

Wow. That is great. You have big balls, congrats. I am so afraid of heights I would never do that.

I hope you had a great time. My youngest sons BFF spins at gay clubs. He is in NYC. I have seen on FB some of his friends. But then I live in MA and we have Ptiown. During July 4th they have what they call the circuit boys.

I was so angry I should have had smoke coming out of my ears.

Wow. I have had the HP since I was around 40 given by the NP at the orthopedic doctors office. I live in MA. I was told then I would need it the rest of my life. My knees are gone and now my back is worse. Maybe call the RMV and talk to the disability department. Good luck -
Considering lap band surgery...
dylanmiles23 replied to ViciousVixen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on starting your new journey. I love my band. 2 years next month. As far as questions to ask, I have no idea. My lung doctor made my appointment and told me I was getting the band. I went to all the monthly meetings and listened. I found this site after the surgery. I didn't do any research but knew I would never do the other WLS because like you I want my insides. There are many books and on you tube you can see the surgery. I did none of these. Some people research for years. Just remember to follow your doctors rules and not someone else's. Every doctor is different. I never ever cheated pre or post op because I was too afraid of what could go wrong Good luck with your band and new life Arlene
