My first thought is to get properly measured. I wear a size 12, not fun. I wear New Balance sneakers all the time. I also wear SAS shoes and sandals. SAS are the most comfortable shoe you will ever wear but over $100. per pair. My son use to be a cook on his feet for over 12 hours a day and weighed over 400 pounds and wore the SAS shoes. They do make sneakers but I have never bought them. I live in the Boston area and New Balance is in Boston so I go to the outlet store. Reebok is 2 miles from me but I never really liked their sneakers. Nice having outlet stores near you .Hope I helped you but getting measured is the best thing. Before I lost weight I wore a W and now a N or M.

First Doctors Visit.
dylanmiles23 replied to Sbharris74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck with everything. I never researched anything and didn't find this site until after the surgery. My lung doctor made my appointment and told me you are getting the band. My surgeon's office gave me a huge booklet with every step of the process in it and everyone's phone number's, emails etc. I just followed all the rules because I was afraid of what could happen if I did something wrong. Too many people go through the with surgery and don't follow 'Their' doctor's rules. My doctor and yours most likely do things differently, so listen to yours. Everyone on this wonderful site will help you, honestly. Don't be offended by the truth. If you make a slip up, tomorrow is another day, don't kill yourself over it. Enjoy your new journey. I love my new and better, healthy life. Arlene -
My doctor's office did everything for me. I did nothing. Ask the office for help. Good luck with your new journey, I love mine!

Going to the store

I lived on SF Popsicles. I like the fruit flavored by Edy's the best. I don't have a box right now but it's the box with the Kiwi. They do have a few more calories but the taste is great. -

why did you choose lapband?

Very well said. My thoughts, too. My husband went with me to all my pre-op meetings and he also had those thoughts. I know of too many people who had by pass and now weigh more than before the WLS. -
according the web site for Nectresse is made from monk fruit. Fruit is real not artificial.

Pre-op Finish Line
dylanmiles23 replied to tlbutler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on starting this wonderful journey. I never craved anything while pre-op. I was too afraid to do anything wrong so I never did anything wrong. Maybe call your dietitian for advice. -
I am so happy for your weight loss. Your new picture is wonderful with the big smile. I am sorry to hear about your husband. Very nice to know he is doing better. Diet and exercise seems to be the answer to better health for everyone, if we all followed those rules.

I eat bread but mostly in restaurants and eat the crusty parts not the doughy white stuff. Tonight I had my monthly support meeting and my dietitian is always at them. I had said I had a 1/2 a roll with the insides taken out for lunch with turkey and she doesn't approve of it because it turns to sugar. Every person and every dietitian is different. I have no problems with crackers at all.

I had mentioned that I had my first shot last year. My doctor told me to take liquid Tylenol every 4 or 6 hours (sorry forgot which) for 24 hours and that would make it that I would not get sick. It worked.

Last year at the ripe old age of 62, I got my very first flu shot. My doctor said the strain last year would put you in the hospital. I know of someone who almost died from the flu and was in ICU for almost 3 weeks. She was on a family cruise and was air lifted to Miami (she lives there). I will most likely get one again when I see my PCP next month.

I use Bariatric Advantage chewable probiotic. I buy a few of their vitamin and or mineral products. I also take every day (prescription) Miralx powder and colace liquid.

Very well put. When I went to my surgeon's office the first time they gave me and every WLS person a huge book that has everything from the first visit to after the surgery. Why can't other doctors do this. Also listed was everyone's phone number in the office with their title. Program your doctor's number in your phones, everyone.

Every doctor is different. I have had 3 fills for a total of under 2 cc's.

Hi, The only thing I can say is, call the doctor as soon as you get up in the morning. This should have been done after the first day of not feeling well. That is why they are there. They know the band better than anyone. Feel better and call!!!

Tory Johnson is on GMA and was sort of told lose weight. She has a book coming out called The Shift. I don't know much about her or the book. She is doing a book tour but very over priced tickets, $75. What nerve in my eyes. On Yahoo it said something about nail polish helped her. I have been saying that for a long time. You can not eat with wet nails. I have used that trick for around 25-30 years Just because someone like Tory is on tv doesn't mean your bosses have the right to tell you to lose weight. My thoughts. Enjoy your evening-sleep tight. Arlene

Better late than never, but we did a family dinner for the Jewish New Year last night. It was very nice, 28 people. My son's, their wives and my super wonderful 3 grandsons were there. I haven't seen some of the people for real long time and of course came the: you look great, how much did you lose, how did you lose the weight questions. I told people I do not share my weight loss with any one. They were disappointed. I said I know I was very fat and still fat and don't need people saying, boy, Arlene was very over weight. When it came to my dinner plate, one woman said to me, you have no food on your plate. I said I have plenty. My husband explained I eat around 4 oz of protein then the other foods. My sister-in-law (the wicked b***h "c" word) asked me about my 'diet'. I only said I use a dietitian. Enough words for her. About the SIL, my husband is 63 and for the first 50 years of his life he did not talk to her. They now talk only because he made an effort. She loves my oldest son and treats my younger son like s**t. Enough said about her. So, back to the subject, I feel the surgery is my business and I just can't share it with everyone. I still feel like I am a failure because I needed the help of the band. My first surgeon said I was not a failure because I knew I needed the help. I just can't get that part into my head. I did have a very small sliver of chocolate birthday cake. My youngest son's b. day was Wednesday, age 35 and the next day his wife was 35. I brought a super wonderful cake from BJ's for them. Today the hub and I get to baby sit the 9 month old. He is the perfect baby, teething and never complains. He has 8 teeth all ready. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. The weather in Boston is super great this weekend.

My weight has not changed in 4-6 months. My doctor is thrilled with my weight because i have lost 60% of my BMI. I do want to lose much more weight though. I know I need to do more exercise. I think as a male you need more calories. Fresh cooked foods are the best instead of ready made. Make enough chicken (example) for a few days and then you can add sauces or gravies to change the taste. Last night I made meatballs with tomato sauce and sweet and sour meatballs. I have about 3-4 meals of each. I have a food saver system so I freeze by portions. Great investment for WLS people. I always freeze by portions even for my husband. He doesn't eat meat.

Im REALLY getting nervous
dylanmiles23 replied to LapbandLo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you will be fine. I waited until almost 62 to get hold of my out of control eating. Being younger is smarter. I almost didn't go into the operating room. I was on the bed and hooked up and getting ready to roll and I am very happy I went through with it. I felt that getting the band was a cop out and a surgeon told me the band was not a cop out but was a helper. I did feel like a failure because of it but now I don't. Good luck, take measurements and before photos, I never did and regret that.
