    Take me to a restaurant?

I eat out all the time and order everything except fried foods. i will taste a fried item but not as my meal. I never order a drink but have one in the car for my ride home and it will be after 1/2 hour after eating. I order according to the type of restaurant. Where I live the Chinese restaurants have combos all day and I bring 1/2 home and order brown rice with it. Italian the other day I had a salad, 2 end pieces of bread (I don't have the doughy parts) with butter or oil, meatballs and pasta. I took home most of the whole wheat pasta. I order salmon a lot with veggies and bring home 1/2. For burgers, I may have 1 to bites of the bottom of the roll and eat about 4-5 oz. I have pizza, thin crust 2 slices or 1/2 of a bar pizza, which is big in my area. They are very small and thin crust. I never have alcohol. That was a no-no I was told but talk to your doctor. Up to him/her. One thing I can't chew anymore and being from NE, is lobster. I can eat shrimp, though. Also for red meat, filet is the most tender and the only one I can chew real well. Hope I helped you.
  2. Hi I have had my band for 15 months and have had either 3 or 4 fills and they are very small ones. I either have 2.2 or 2.4 cc's total and my last fill was 2-3 weeks ago and I can tell I am now a Green Zone! Every person is different and every doctor is different. There are many people on this site that have never had a fill and they do fine. Maybe it is mental head hunger. As far as not losing pounds, how about measurements? I know my sizes have gone down without weight loss. I was about the same weight for about 6 months and I was fine with that. My weight took me many years to get on the body so I figured 2 years to get to a weight or size that is livable for me. Are you exercising? That some times slows the weight loss but not the size.

    Cold Medicine

Call your doctor and ask. Can't go wrong that way. Feel better.

    How to start the process?

As the mother of an obese male, good for you!! When my son, now 35, graduated high school he was at least 400. My son is now doing something, again, about his weight. He cut out all sugars and diary. He was at least 10 cupper a day of hot and iced coffee with cream and 6 sugars. Just remember to follow your doctor's rules because he/she is different than others. Keep us posted. What college are you going to, or you can keep it to yourself. Good luck with school.

    Pgx and the band

Hi. I am sorry you had a weight gain. I never heard of PGX. Have you thought of going back to your surgeon and dietitian for help? They maybe the best people to help you get back on track. Good luck.

    Pre op consultations

Good luck with your new journey. Because of my age and my local hospital being taken over by a big Boston one, from my first appointment until my banding was 10 months. I survived. I went to all the monthly meetings and still do go to them. They are very helpful and you learn from other WLS people. Also, I have seen on this site that people do not go to their doctor's as much as they should. That is very important. Good luck to you and your mother. Arlene

    What did you eat yesterday?

I always start with a protein shake. Then sometimes a hot tea. lunch can be anything or anytime. I have had protein bars: Cliff, 20 gr. of protein. My dietitian told me these were better than what I was eating because they have more protein. Yesterday I had a late lunch early dinner. I went for Italian food. I had 2 pieces of the crust of bread with butter. 2 meatballs with whole wheat penne and tomato sauce. Also, a bowl of iceberg lettuce no dressing. I ate some of the pasta but both meatballs. My early bird came with vanilla ice cream and I had maybe 1/4 cup. Ice cream was one of my weakness. Around 10pm I had a small piece of chicken breast and a few bites of baby back ribs and got stuck. It sucked!!!! My husband said I ate too fast and didn't chew enough, he was right. Today I had my shake and will have deli turkey, no bread, for lunch. Dinner is a burger with cheese (4 oz), salad (around 1-2 hours before my dinner, when I am home) and green beans. I also eat soy chips for snacks and fruit. I drink iced and hot tea all day. I brew my own decaf iced tea I hope I helped you.

    First consultation tomorrow

husbands and or wives are great support teams and are well needed. The thing about this site is we have all had the band or are waiting to get it. So we can help with questions that a partner can't. Sometimes the waiting game can be very long. Mine was 10 months, because of hospital take overs and my age. I am so glad I have the band. Good luck.

Been in a Plateau for the last 1.5 months :(

I was trying to type and my cat got involved. Sorry. I was trying to say the weight took more than a few weeks/ months to get in you. I figured on 2 years to get to a nice goal number or size clothing. Good luck

    my recent fill

I had my 3 or 4th fill 2-3 weeks ago. My doctor goes very slow with the amounts. Total I have either 2.2 or 2.4cc's. This last fill did it!! Last night I was eating dinner and I couldn't finish. About time. This was also my first fill since February. Tonight we were out for late lunch early dinner or as my MIL calls it luper. We had an early bird and it includes desert. I had vanilla ice cream. Ice cream is a slider food and I eat about 1/4 of a cup and was full. Great feeling. I totally understand no 2 people are a like. What I don't understand is when doctors do large cc's of fills and the bander is unhappy and feels like they need more and I have a little and I am fine. Have a great weekend everyone. I hope my wonderful Red Sox kick ass tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Listen to your body.

I find that the shoulder harness hurts my port area when I drive and I was banded over 1 year ago. When I am the passenger, I am fine. Sorry you have pain. I wasn't allowed to drive for 3-4 weeks. I know walking helped me in the beginning even if it was for 5 minutes.

    What Mushies Are You Eating?

I am a terrible eater. I ate a lot of meatballs with tomato sauce, sweet and sour meatballs, salmon and jumbo lump crab. They were all on my food list. I lived on the crab, sometimes twice a day. I am not a veggie eater either but had mashed potatoes and butternut squash. Good luck.

    Fitbit

the best thing to do is look it up. I have the Ultra. I wear it on my bra and it is hooked up with my computer and iPhone. It keeps track of my steps, stairs (going up only), calories burned. Then I record my gym exercises and all my foods and drinks. I love it a lot. The bracelet one wasn't out when I got mine.

I was also going to say, call the doctor ASAP. Feel better.

Go for your checkups every month in year 1

My surgeon told me chewing gum is a no-no. He said if swallowed it has to be surgically removed. Be careful but every doctor is different.
  17. I was being treated for asthma for about 3-5 years with every kind of inhaler etc. every day. I coughed 24/7 all those years. I failed, meaning, I passed breathing tests. My lung doctor finally did the cameras down the throat into the lungs and found out I had a hernia and my stomach was in the wrong place. That day my lung doctor signed me up for the Lap Band and I never researched and didn't find this site until after the band. Before the surgery I took 6 pills a day just to eat so I wouldn't cough. Has anyone done any kind of tests like that on you? I wish you luck and hope you get the 'free' band. Just remember nothing is ever free. We all know that.

    Stuck. But WHY Tonight??!!

I had my worse stuck last night. I have never gotten the food to come up/out whatever, though. I walked around the house until I burped a lot of times. I stopped eating my dinner, which was chicken. Stuck, sucks!! Feel better and good luck with getting the new job.

    Its getting real!!!

If you feel the need to cheat, maybe you are not ready. I never cheated because I was afraid of the 'what ifs' etc. Also, if your liver is not reduced in size they will not band you. That is another reason for the pre-op diet of liquids etc. Good luck.
  20. Congrats on getting banded. I lived on SF popsciles. I love Edy's fruit ones. The calories are a little higher but the taste is great. I still have them daily. Like someone said, have another protein shake. They fill you up or call your dietitian for advise because each doctor has their own rules.

    eating out and milkshakes

Welcome. For my protein shakes, I add a lot of ice and they are just as thick as McDonald's. As for eating out, I eat about 6 meals a week out. I order a lot from the children's menu. Where I love to eat their kid's menu has grilled chicken, salmon and steak tips. Not bad for kids. Also, I order salads and add a protein to them. When I do Italian I order pasta and meatballs, sometimes or pasta with chicken or shrimp and only tomato sauce. I also bring home a lot of doggy bags and have lunch the next day I am a bread junkie. I only eat really good bread in restaurants and mostly the crust not the white doughy stuff. I eat Chinese food, too. Like I said I eat out a real lot. I wasn't feeling well today and was suppose to go for Italian. For steak, I can only chew filet mignon. I find other cuts very hard to chew. I hope I helped you. Just ask more questions if you have them.
  22. I went 2 years ago this month and there were about 20 people. It was to learn about all 3 WLS. I go to my monthly support meetings and at September's meeting (I couldn't go to October's) there were about 20 pre surgery people and about 5-7 post op people. If the hospital thought you would be the only person, I would like they would call and cancel the meeting, my thoughts. I learned a real lot going to all the meetings and I hope you do too. Good luck with your new journey. Ask every question you can think of, they know the answers.
