What Am I Doing Wrong? Or Is This Normal?
dylanmiles23 replied to skinnysomeday1211's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on getting the band. Now don't do what I do and weigh yourself 10 times a day. CG, doesn't own the metal monster, she is the smart one. -

I am a bander who was always hot and now freeze. I live in Boston, so yes it is very cold. Right now I have a therapy type thing around my neck that you put in the micro wave. My ass is freezing, too. When I sleep, I sweat. I have a window opened in my bedroom all winter. Weird how the body changes so much. Stay warm and enjoy the holiday season.

So I decided to go get a mani and pedi today. I get monthly pedis, I don't know how to file , cut or polish and besides for $20. it's worth getting done. There were 2 women (friends) and they both had their big toe nails very long and they were fake! Why? Has anyone heard of anything so dumb. I live in Boston, it is not warm enough for sandals. I have purple polish on and for the big toes only, I have a darker purple pokka dot. Saw it from Lancome in pinks, so cute. Everyone deserves a pedi for spring and summer and the massage chairs, OMG-I could get one weekly just for the chairs. Have a great TGIF and weekend. Arlene

today my toes are a bright pink with a purple tint. Fingers-clear but that will change this week. I got my hair redone yesterday. 5, yes 5 f**kin hours to get the gross colors to look like a human color. Have a great weekend.

Holidays And Cultural Food Traditions
dylanmiles23 commented on FibroDiva's blog entry in Fibro Diva's Bariatric Blog
If your family knows about your WLS then they should understand. If they don't know just mess the food on your plate or tell them. At the Jewish New Year dinner this year the woman sitting next to me asked where all my food was because I had just a small amount on my plate. My husband told her I had plenty of food. It is no one's business. You can say I am trying to control my eating and intake. Have wonderful holiday and I am happy your family is safe. -
I have not written since the new site has been up. There are things I hate and things I like but it is Alex's brain child not mine or yours. So just grin and bear it. So I am a natural red head. Only color I have ever been in 63 years. Money is very tight so 2 months ago I bought s decent color and it looked good. I couldn't do hi lites but that was fine because I wasn;t born with them. Last week my husband was with me when I went to buy another box of dye. He choose a different color. Sunday I had bright red/orange hair. It glowed!!! I called the company and they said to buy light brown. I left it on for 20 not 30 minutes. My hair is almost black. UGH!!!!!!!!! Today I am puling out the credit card and getting hi lites. Who the f**k knows what I will look like. Anything is better than almost black on a very pale skinned red head. When you get older you have to go lighter not darker because you do get paler I think. I can't do Thanksgiving with this color. My youngest grandson, Max will be having his 1st b. day party with about 40 people next week. Can't embarrass him. I have been staying in the middle 190's for a long time now. Today I am back down under 192!!!!!!! I have been 188.? after a fill for 1-2 days. I would love to see the 180's again soon. I do not eat any pies so I am not worried about Thanksgiving desserts. I have never had a pie because I don't like cooked fruit. This is very long but I needed to rant about my hair color. Have a great day. Boston is cold and rainy today. Stay warm. Arlene aka Eye Candy

What Should I Tell My Boss
dylanmiles23 replied to thick2slim's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! When I had my surgery I did have a hernia and my stomach was in the wrong place. I have told a few people that part but most people don't know about the band. No one ever asked if I had WLS but I have been asked how much I have lost and refused to answer. The look on person's face, priceless. That person also made a comment at a holiday dinner because my plate wasn't over flowing. -
Why Am I So Terrifed?
dylanmiles23 replied to kassy07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck with everything. I buy Body Fortress at Walmart it is under $17. Because there is 30 grams of Protein in a scoop it will last a while. -
I have a either 3 or 4 fills for a total of 2.2 or 2.4 cc's. My doctor goes slow. After each fill I do 3 days of liquids, 3 days of mushies and then back to my regular foods. Each doctor does it differently. At my last fill in September my doctor removed all my Fluid to make sure it was the same amount that were on my records and it was perfect. My doctor is the only person that does fills. Don't ever be afraid to ask questions. Feel better.

Don't Tell Me No Don't Eat That Tell Me Why!
dylanmiles23 replied to chloesmom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
For dinner tonight I had whole grain and wild rice. I buy the small Uncle Ben's or Minute Rice containers. I love them. I chew well. I have never had a problem eating anything just too much. I have had 3 different dietitians and the middle one (from a large Boston hospital) said there are no, no-nos. Just try to be good. That means i can eat fried clams. I ate 1 since the band. Oh, ya, I can't chew lobster or most meats. Filet mignon goes down great. I guess you just have to try and see. good luck. -
I buy Body Fortress. At Walmart they are around $15-$17. I use chocolate only and add a little decaf instant coffee, a little peppermint extract and tons of ice. I use 8 oz. of milk also. I have a shake every Breakfast because I don't eat breakfast foods.

Losing My Fat Blanket
dylanmiles23 replied to Deweydoer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am from Boston and I can not get warm. I wear a scarf in the house. Before Lap Band I would wear a scarf when it reached around 20. I am never warm. I wear full length fur coats and still get cold. But when I sleep, I sweat. That is weird and my bedroom has an open window all winter. Maybe one day it will all balance and we will get warm again. -
New Directions Products, Required By My Doc For Pre Op
dylanmiles23 replied to Bronco0605's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I am a Lap Bander but if you ask me it sounds like a money maker item for the doctor. I buy Body Fortress at Walmart for under $17. in chocolate and love it. I have a shake every morning for breakfast over 1 1/2 years now. Ask your dietitian for money friendly names. My original dietitian liked a $65. drink. Needless to say I drank what I could afford. Good luck. -
Wonderful-good for you. I love my band, also.

That was super. You are so right about meeting new people. We did all have WLS but chose a different major in school.

front page of the Boston Globe today
dylanmiles23 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
First let me say, I don't know this doctor and never heard of him. On the front page today it says that Dr. Sheldon Randall has had his surgeon's license suspended. I guess a few patients have died in his care. He had performed over 6000 WLS in 30 years. According to Dr. George Blackburn (a very famous WL doctor) Dr. Randall's death rates is very low compared to how many surgeries he has done. I am not a professional at this, I am just reporting what I read. Maybe if you go to the Boston Globe's web site you can read the whole article. Dr. Blackburn, I had been under his care many many moons ago with a drug trial, which turned out to be Merdia. That drug worked wonders for me but is not healthy. When I was in the study I lost 60 pounds in about 6 months by being on 30 mg per day. Recommended is 5-10. If any of you had Dr. Randall, I hope you liked his work and follow ups because I guess following up is what made one man die at 45. Thanks for reading this. Arlene -
I once spent 8 days at the Atlantis. It was the best vacation I had with my family. My sons were around 18 & 21 then, so they had their own room. It is the best place to go. Very very expensive. The food prices are very high. We did the meal plan. At this time in my life I can't afford the Holiday Inn down the street. Hope that changes soon. If you all go enjoy it. The best Water park and aquarium in the world.
