Don't let others judge unless they walk in your shoes. I know I am off all my meds! I took 6 pills a day just to eat food and when I had the band I had my hernia repaired. My blood pressure is perfect, those pills are gone. That part is not being a failure but a NSV. Have you taken measurements and seen those numbers change? I use to wear a size 18-20 plus size jeans and now wear a 14 misses. I don't share with anyone but my husband and this site how much I weighed, how much I weigh now or how many pounds I have lost. Enjoy your weekend and don't let others bother you. You will do fine.

Daily Calorie Burn Recommendations?
dylanmiles23 replied to SkinnyJenn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congratulations on your new journey. Everyone loses at their own pace. Just follow your doctor and dietitian's rules. Everyone of them have their own thoughts about the band and weight loss. You do have to eat to lose. Also, exercise, anything helps. Sometimes losing inches shows up more than pounds lost. I am not a Breakfast eater, meaning healthy foods. So is started having the Protein shakes 4 months before my surgery and lost 28 pounds. I still have one every morning and love them. Good luck with everyone. -
I would never change my doctor, I love him too much. Also this journey isn't about a race, who finishes first. It is to get healthier and live like that. I do have plenty of restriction. I can't over eat and I have gotten stuck many times, my fault. Another thing is I am 63, not a youngster. I have lost 60% of my BMI and down 75-80 pounds so far. When I had the surgery I decided it took me many years to get fat and I decided it should take me 2 years to get to a good size and weight for me. My doctor said if I never lose another pound, he is fine with me and said I am one of his best patients. I know of many by-pass people who after 7-10 years are just as heavy if not heavier than before their surgery. I don't want to be one of 'them'. So slow down the race.

It's Not A Science
dylanmiles23 replied to cheryl2586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Cheryl, I like that you said it took you 3 years. Not happy about that it took so long but it makes me feel better because I have come to stand still for 6-9 months. No, I have not been to the gym in 3 weeks but I try to move around doing weird things in the house. AFV would give me $$$ for my weird moves. Have a great night. Arlene -
When I had the surgery the doctor had like 20-30 different tests done. My own PCP tests for my vitamin levels. After I had the Band for about 8-10 months the surgeon did a lot of tests, too. If you think you have some deficiencies ask for those to be tested. They don't take too much for each test.

I had the band surgery July, 2012 and I am far from perfect. I don't know if I am in the green at all. I have a 10 band and about 2.2 or 2.4 cc total. My doctor goes very slow. I see him every 2 months and last time he said make it 3 months because he feels I am doing great. Talking to the doctor and or dietitian may help you.

Wls....a Bad Name!
dylanmiles23 replied to chasingadream's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't like sharing the fact about the Band either. It is a tool and you find on this site that a lot people have failed their tool. I am very embarrassed about how much I weighed and how much more I want to lose. This site and my husband are the only people that know my weight and lose. I know I have to accept a compliment and say thank you and move on with the another subject. Everyone I hope you are watching and enjoying The Sound of Music, because I am. Arlene -
My dietitian told me to buy Cliff Protein bars. I love the mint chocolate ones. They have 20g of protein. The best price I found was Target, under $6. for 6 of them. I am surprised by the not having Protein shakes. That has been my Breakfast for 1 1/2 years. I started them before my band.

I have found that lately I am getting bored with food choices but I always want to eat. Is it the band or our minds have finally changed for the better?

Forgive Me For Whining!
dylanmiles23 replied to freedom4emjay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on the new journey. I started mine Oct., 2011 and finally had the Band, July, 2012. I have had either 3 or 4 fills for a grand total of 2.2 or 2.4. I forgot the numbers. Some people never have fills. My doctor believes in going slow. My problem is that i need to find something to do with my spare time. When you see your nutritionist, they will help with with starting new foods and amounts. My advice, follow what is told to you. Everyone has different diets, rules etc. I have had 3 different dietitians and the 2nd one said I have 0 restrictions. My current one believes in eliminating many items forever. Good luck. -
Need Some Support-Gained Lbs And Partner Not Attracted To Me Anymore
dylanmiles23 replied to secondchancesally's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Go on vacation with the person and don't have sex. See how they like that. I am a very spiteful person sometimes. Don't cry about the small gain. They have a problem and don't know to tell you so that is their excuse. Now put on your biggest smile for the wonderful job you had done. My weight goes up and down 3-6 pounds, oh well, not the end of the world. No one is perfect. Happy holidays and enjoy the time away. -
Diagnosed Today After A Long Battle
dylanmiles23 replied to donna12's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi donna, I am very sorry to hear about the Lupus. I think being on Plaquenil is super. My husband has a form of Lupus and at first was on so much Predisone his sugar went very high and he had 6 shots a day and now is on 2 pills a day with the Plaquenil. He never had any side effects. He did find going to the gym and working on his muscles helps a lot. I know it is an immune problem and he is missing 'A', his sister is missing A, B and C. I had my sons checked and they are fine. If you have children, maybe have them checked. Feel better and keep your wonderful smile on. Arlene -
Cheryl, I love your posts and miss them. I feel that you know a lot about the band and being in the health field makes it great. I hope you're feeling better and enjoying your pool. Happy holidays! Arlene

Hi Alex, On my iPhone I had the site under Lap Band Talk and had to reload under BariatricPal and it asks for pass words and I was too lazy to look them up. So that is why I haven't used the phone for the site. I am so electronic challenged, that my name on this site is my grandson's name and I never wanted that. I really stink at this. Thank you Alex for a wonderful site and I love all the people I have met and have become friends with them. Arlene

People Are Noticing And Commenting On How Little I'm Eating!
dylanmiles23 replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During the Jewish New Year in September a woman sitting next to me asked why there was almost no food on my plate. My husband told her I had plenty. She has asked me how much weight I have lost and I have told her I don't share that with anyone. Her face was priceless when I answered her. Too bad. She is a cousin's friend and most people don't know about my band. I am private with relatives not friends. Tell people I am trying to control my portions and I eat Protein first, then veggies and then fruit and maybe carbs. I have used that one too. Good luck with your new journey. -
I just saw your rant. Very true. I use to go to the site on my iPhone at night (when hub is sleeping) and now have to re-log and have been lazy about doing it. I am still here. I read a lot but don't respond as much as I use to. I have been busy lately with family.

Wonderful picture. I am glad your mother's mind was still with you Thursday. Thursday was the first Thanksgiving we didn't include my mother. She is 95 with really bad dementia. She knows her children but we think she forgot our names. She thinks my sons 35 & 38 are babies and they are parents. Old age is very hard. Have a wonderful holiday season. Arlene

They are either jealous or just don't know how to handle your success with changing your life for a healthy one. It is their problem not yours. Can you have a heart to heart talk with them or do you not care? Because someone's weight changes doesn't mean 'we' can't have fun and go out and enjoy a nice dinner. I go out for dinner all the time with people.

New To This....
dylanmiles23 replied to kapukaiman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on the surgery. You really need to let your stomach and the band heal, that is why there is a post-op meal plan. We have all been there and before you know it you will be having real food again. I have a mentally challenged brother and it was his birthday while I was on post-op liquids. I took him for dinner and watched him eat a big fat ass steak and drank tea. Good luck. Just remember it isn't the end of the world to go without food. Just make sure you get in the Protein that your dietitian tells you is ok. Arlene -
The Waiting Game
dylanmiles23 commented on JillC878's blog entry in After the Knife - Jill's WLS Journey
When I had mine, the person told me right then that I qualified. I guess every hospital and insurance company are different. I went to my first meeting Oct., 2011 and didn't get the band until July, 2012 because of the hospital being taken over by a larger one. But the wait was worth it. Just remember the weight took longer than a week/month/year to get on the body. Good luck with your new journey. -

Lapband Vs Sleeve
dylanmiles23 replied to LookatmeNow34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before you decide to go with another WLS have you called a dietitian and asked for help with a food plan? Maybe get a trainer to help with exercise? I am not telling you not to get the sleeve but it is very major non-reversible surgery. I love the band. I am not 100% perfect at all. I try not to over eat but I do have some foods that are not diet friendly. I am getting ready to go out for dinner right now. Have a great weekend. -
Happy Thanksgiving. I did not get stuck. Last year I did. I did have a few bad things but spaced out my eatings. Feel better.

I told some people that are very close to me. I never told cousins or my husband's sister and her husband because I hate them. Also when people ask how much I lost, I never share that. This site and my husband are the only people that know. Yes, I have a problem with what people would think and say about how fat I still am and how huge I really was. My 2 sons don't know and I am very close to them. Do what you are comfortable with, only. Enjoy your Thanksgiving and holiday season.
