    14 Days Post Op!!

Thank you so much for the support! I will keep you posted. I've eaten incredibly slow today and had very little gas pain. So maybe that is the issue.
  2. Today is a new day!

  3. I had a similar problem with gaining weight right after surgery, I flipped out about it. But I've figured out (from reading many posts) that it was from a lot of different reasons, us women have hormonal changes and that can cause weight gain, retaining water which comes with that causes you to gain weight, and not having a BM will really mess with your system. My husband is on the low carb diet, I read an article that says if you actually add in carbs 2-3 times a week you will actually lose more weight than if you had 0 carbs. Good luck.
  4. I'm at witts end with this gas pain!!

  5. I'm at witts end with this gas pain!!

  6. I feel your pain, I got home from surgery at 7:30 pm and was like what's for dinner. You'll learn on here every surgeon is different in their requirements some people who had surgery the day after me (9/10) are on solids!! I went round and round with my nutritionist because I was hungry all the time and nothing was satisfying. How many times a day are you drinking your protein shakes? I've found because they are thicker I drink them 2-3 times a day. I'm not allowed oatmeal but I am allowed thicker soups, such as tomato, broccoli cheese (blend any lumps), etc. I've even branched out to spaghetti-O's. Also are you getting your water in? That will help with you being full. I like you am terrified of having something back up on me so I haven't been real adventurous on trying out foods outside my current diet. Don't beat yourself up about having a few items here and there, they aren't bad items (right?) no point in brow beating yourself. Hang in there.
  7. Could I be eating to fast? Is this why I get intense gas pain at night even after walking 2 miles?!

  8. Didn't make it to work today...hope tomorrow is better.

So Close To The 100 Mark I Can Taste It!

You can do it!! Congrats in advance.
  10. I didn't have any gas pain after surgery. But right now I have a horrible pain in the middle of my back between my shoulder blades. On a scale of 1-5 it's a 4. Is this gas pain? Or should I be worried? I've taken some gas-x strips and no help yet.

    Horrible Pain!!!!

Thanks y'all!! I just walked around the block 3 times and the hearing pad is working wonders now. I just wonder why it took so long for the gas pain to show up? Maybe it's because today was my least active walking day.

    Horrible Pain!!!!

Thanks y'all. I've walked the block and now with heating pad in recliner. It's getting better. This is intense. I had been taking gas-x ever 3 hours or so but didn't today. I won't make that mistake again.

    Lunch Ideas

You are not weird Carolina, I am like that I will go through spurts where I will eat the same thing every day for a couple of months before I change it out.

    Blah

Today we had a big cook out at work. I spent most of the morning help set up for it and then manned the front table to make sure everyone signed in and got their raffle ticket. It was outside, but luckily the Texas heat was kind today, it was in the mid 80's and breezy but it still got warm. It was horrible smelling all that good smelling BBQ and not being able to have any. But I had my faithful water bottle with me. By around 1:30 p.m. a lot of people were asking me if I was okay. I was pale again with flushed cheeks and it was obvious I was exhausted. I felt like I needed to stick it out at work, but I only made it to 3:00 before I threw in the towel and came home. I made it up the stairs and into my bed. The building could have been on fire or someone could have put a chocolate fountain at the foot of my bed and I wouldn't have moved. I know that I am still only 8 days out of surgery and it takes time to heal, but I really wanted to be able to start walking and exercising. I know moving around all day was exercise, but I just want to feel normal. I took a two hour nap which I also did Sunday and yesterday and it made it difficult to get to sleep before late. However, right now I am exhausted again and will be climbing into bed shortly. Several people were at the cook out today who hadn't seen me in several months and commented on how it looked like the weight had just melted off me. So that is awesome and made me feel really good. I also wore a pair of jeans I haven't been able to wear in a long time!! Another thing bothering me is trying to decipher my insurance claims on my insurance website. It shows what was billed for and what was covered but its not clear if or what I owe. I also received a bill in the mail from the surgeon's office today, not sure what all this is about considering I paid them $918 for my surgery which was based on my deductible not being met, but this bill I received applies $150 to my deductible, so I am wondering if I didn't over pay them for surgery. So I need to call them probably later this week and see what all my money was allocated for. I said later in the week because they still have a claim pending on my insurance website. I just hate all the guessing and wondering if I am being ripped off by them. Part of what I was charged for was my initial meeting with the surgeon which was a group meeting and nothing special. I could have had the same results by attending one of their FREE seminars. Irritated to say the least. I managed to have my 2 protein shakes at work today. Oh and I got into it with my dietitian again. I emailed asking for guidance about how often I am supposed to eat, and I was told 2 shakes and 1 serving of soup at night. I fought fire with fire and asked how this was supposed to be feasible since liquid does not make you full, they preach do not drink liquids while you eat or you will wash your food through your band. She did give me credit for pointing that out and recanted with adding broth into my day. So small victory. Tonight I finished off two soups I had already started which amounted to about a cup. Going forward I will be measuring out my soup to make sure my portions are on point. Anyways, I am going to get some sleep and see if I can make it a whole day at work. Also looked at my incisions tonight and noticed some of my glue is starting to come off and most of them look a lot better. I am going to count my victories with my jeans, compliments, and healing incisions. Until tomorrow, Amanda

    Liquid Pain Killer

I was banded 9/10 too! That sucks that your dr wont let you cut them. But I am thinking about ordering the liquid too, it gets old having to cut them. I think its strange how one doctors rules differs so much from another.

    Crabby

I get grumpy when I am hungry, its an issue that runs in my family. I've found that if I drink lots of water throughout the day I dont feel as hungry. Also make sure you are getting your protein shakes in because it makes me less hungry. As far as feeling envious because everyone is eating yummy no no foods, well just think of the end goal and how it will be worth it in the end.
  20. Confused trying to read all this insurance jargon.

    Incisions today

I have no idea either. But I have emailed the surgeon to find out. Notice all that bruising. Yuck.

    Incisions today

From the album: Surgery Day- Post Op

My incisions today, 4 days out of post op (9/14/12). As you can see the bloating has gone down some. And you can see a bruise coming in from the top of my middle incision on down. Not sure what that is about.

    Bloated And Gassy!

I never experienced the shoulder pain from gas right after surgery (7 days out) and I think it is because I would take a gas-x strip about once every 3 hours or so. It really helped. Maybe you should just take on before you eat and see if that helps clear up your issues.
  24. I have the same question. I feel like I am eating too often. I can't have cream of wheat or yogurt until next week but I am doing the soups. I drink 2 protein shakes a day to help get my protein in and they do make me feel "full" longer. Are you strictly only eating during those meal times or are you drinking more throughout the day?
