We talked for a minute or two and they were shocked when I told them the hospital in Monterrey was cleaner and more high tec than the one in our town. Thats a common reaction that I get...everyone pictures third world conditions and so we must be getting operated on in a mud hut somewhere and the doc is using a bread bag twisty tie as a lap band.

M: I thought of you tonight..lol. We met with a couple who are looking to buy our business. Through my book keeper (who referred them to us) I found out that both of these people were banded locally. The banded husbands comment to my book Keeper was, "The gal you are telling me about went to Mexico? (meaning me) That is just crazy and irresponsible". I was still excited about meeting them because I dont know any locals that are banded. They come to the house and they are BOTH as overweight as any before pic. They have been banded 2 years. He wishes he would have got RNY. So they were two not so sterling U.S. examples...who complained about the aftercare they did not receive at their U.S. bariatric clinic. I felt bad for both of them (insurance paid for both of their surgeries) but I thought it was funny to be the one almost at goal (in a year) and be called irresponsible by them.

A lot of pure breds have specific health issues associated with that breed. For instance labs have a tendency to get hip problems etc. We have a pure bred...but its because they docked his tail to short and they didnt want him because he wasnt show quality. So we took him...his imperfection makes him even cuter. We always had mutts growing up and us kids didnt know the difference or love them any less.

I "suffered" for awhile because I thought one did that for good restriction. (I didnt view it as suffering at the time) I pb'd if I hate to fast or the wrong thing. I couldnt eat bread, or anything glutenous. And I was always tight in the mornings. My doc took a little teeny bit of saline out after we discussed this...and I was in awe that I could have restriction and not be punished at the same time. I never got reflux or had issues..but I really thought that I was o.k....I am so glad I tell my doc the truth and we went through our decision making together....he saved me trouble in the long run...I am absolutely sure of it.

Since this is R&R and we like different views here...I will venture out as probably the lone person on the planet that dislikes Harry Potter books as books for children. I think they are way to dark and got even more so as the series progressed. I am not sure at what age they would be acceptable, but a least a teenager or late preteen? Dumbledore's sexuality would be a concern for me if it was elaborated on in the books, but I dont think it is. But I am a mother who censors what I allow my child to watch, listen to and wear. That will always be the case...she can make choices as it is age appropriate for her.

She looks like an angel. Thank you for not getting defensive by the pagent mom remark. I meant that pagent mom's have to deal a little more with this situation because of the costume issues...(I am picturing swim suits etc.)

You are so right about the t.v. marketing it to them...Disney channel is the worst offender! What about the toys..like bratz? They are pre teen girl dolls dressed like they are in the child prostitute trade. You would think if you arent a pagent mom you wouldnt have to worry so much..but its really prevalent.

I've noticed that some band patients have a diet mentality and some dont. I semi dieted up until good restriction..(3rd fill) Now I dont obsess about having a treat here and there. I am a year out and almost at goal. Its all a learning process...not dieting works well for me because I dont feel deprived. I still have to be cognizant of trigger situations. If I am over tired or over stressed I can overeat or eat something for emotional reasons. If I am premenstrual..I go with the flow...no pun intended. I wouldnt have time to start a thread asking about the snickers cause I would have had 3 by now. But then there are other times where I recognize I am eating for no legitimate reason whatsoever and I dont have the snickers. We do have to self analyze to change behaviors.....you win some you lose some...(weight that is)...

#1 here. I always try and steer the conversation away from my appearance. I never give out the real number of pounds lost in real life either. I just say thank you and ask them a quick question back. As time goes on my theory is unless they see an old pic of me ...they wont even remember how fat I was.

Viva la Mexico!!! That was the point I was going to bring up...that we have medicaid already in this country. I know of people that pump out kids...like puppies in a litter and every pregnancy is free. Meanwhile..being self employed and working 60 hours a week...my maternity coverage on my policy is maxed out at $3,000, and I end up with a $13,000. baby. Thats $3,000 dollars after deductible of $500.00 and all the premiums for 9+ months. That was 5 years ago and we finally own our kid free & clear.

j When I see someone who isnt banded giving advice to a newbie...its like they are jumping up and down on my last nerve. I even told a gal on another forum to back off and her words would have more weight when she was banded. (She had never been to Mexico and was wrong on every point she stated).

I dont know what the answer is. The heatlh care system now as it is ....its corrupt and unethical and profit driven. I am part of that shrinking middle class. We own 2 businesses. Our income level is comfortable, but we cannot find health insurance coverage. Before my band, all the policies offered to us as self employed individuals lacked any real coverage and are very expensive. We have taken these policies over the years and paid the deductible, copay, and premium, only to have our claims rejected over and over for various illigetimate reasons. Now that I am banded I cannot get coverage. I can buy a policy that has a rider on it excluding anything band related for x amount of time and then pay a very high premium for this lack of coverage. That means if my gall bladder goes they can decide its band related and not cover the gall bladder. So as it stands now..I will have to go back into the workforce and take time away from my family and our businesses to get group coverage healthcare. (thats the only place I wont be rejected). I am even considering Starbucks because at 20 hours a week you qualify for health care coverage. I wont be crazy about the schedule as you have to work any day and night and weekend. So childcare will be a challenge with that type of schedule. We have worked hard and built our businesses up over the years..and I could be at some teenager with acne's whims over my working life....all over healthcare.

I didnt do bypass for all the obvious reasons...re routing the plumbing etc. But I also didnt do it because I just knew I would regain the weight eventually. Because I know me and If I took the path of least resistance...(for me only I speak) and didnt have to really do anything and the weight fell off....I would get used to that and end of a Randy Jackson or Al Roker....Then what?? My emotional stores would have been used up...and possibly my physical health too.

Never be worried about how your success will be perceived by others. That would be their issue not yours. Most are going to find it a very powerful band testimonial...I know I do. For you...:first:

I dont care for Brittney she needs to take one trip to Africa and see how the other side of the world lives. Then she would put her panties back on and realize that the biggest decision of the day..which wig to wear in her 5 million dollar Malibu home isnt that stressing. Throw in some rehab and accountability and she might become an adult. I do take exception to the talented kids remark......lol. Thats open for debate.
