Hi, I was sleeved on the 28th and am also a nurse! I went back to work on the recovery unit yesterday, off today. It went okay, No lifing, pulling etc yet of course. I got pretty fatigued and have a weak episode every now and then but these are becoming less frequent. Resting today as i have to work tomorrow.(weird schedule i know, we're in process of orientating some new nurses and having to have screwed up schedule). I hope we keep in touch. My sutures come out tomorrow. Have follow up apptmnt. with Dr. Swain Monday.... Down 14 lbs i'm tickled to death about that!!!! Keep in touch!Sounds like you're doing 'bout the same....

Whoops hit wrong key, well anyways i'm a vegetarian for the most part. I do like a good steak though. But that's only if we go out to eat. and that's only 1 time a month usually. Other than that i do not eat meat. I LOVE LOVE LOVE peanut butter. Can you eat peanut butter after the sleeve? I hope not... I don't need it. I was just wondering LOL!

Yes, it wasn't bad at all... I had to say "No" when a cna asked for help (I usually help them alot), so it was kinda weird. But i will NOT injure myself or my sleeve for anything...I have little episodes where i feel a little weak, but it passes pretty quickly. IThese are coming less frequent each \day. Decided i need to really take it easy today. I can't believe i'm down 13.8 lbs already! I feel for sure now that i did the right thing. I'm taking in about 75g/day of protein through shakes/powder...My body is not use to this much protein! I'm eating better now than i did before surgery. My thing was CARBS....I'm a vegetarian for the most part. Love peanut butter...

I found a surgeon close to home that agreed to do my follow up care/ leak tests etc... More surgeons are doing this as alot of people are going to mexico. I went to Dr. Almanza and had a great experience and save ALOT of money...If you have any questions about him/his staff i'll be glad to help. I am an RN and was impressed with the care and felt totally safe the entire trip...

Welcome! I was going to have lap-band until 45 min before surgery my surgeon talked me into VSG. I'm ssoooo glad he did. I wanted to switch over to VSG but felt obligated to have lapband as i had already started the process. I'm 9 days post op and am down 14 lbs. D oubt if i had lap band if it would be this amount...You made a good choice and won't regret it...Good luck and keep in touch! -

slojo replied to TinkerToyz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Recovery unit nurse here, nursing for 20 years. Sleeved Aug 28 2012, have lost 11 lbs since before preop diet... -
I weighed this am and have lost 11lbs since 1 wk before surgery (2 weeks ago)! I'm thrilled. I can tell my pants are looser and upper abd less puffy! Yay for me!

I'm so glad you're having the surgery you won't be sorry. Yes they lock up your luggage/purse while you have surgery in a room and label it with your name etc 1st thing. The staff if very trustworthy. The building is kept locked at all times, they have to buzz to get in the building... I felt very safe.

I had no hangover effect once i was up and around. I recover quickly though. It's hard to say how you'll feel...

That's awesome you get to work from home, I think i would've been alright to do that. I had gas pains the night of and next day after surgery. The heating pad helped more than anything. Slept with it on low heat...After the 2nd day i was good to go.

That's a bummer, i don't know if they'll do surgery, let the doc know asap today. It depends on the surgeon...

I'm in western Ky. Saw your surgeon is in Lexington! Take Care...

You did the right thing. Sounds like he's picking up right where he left off from when drinking before... Yes, i'm married to an alcoholic...He is a hard working, ethical, responsible, loving person but he is an alcoholic. THat's hard to say, and most people would never DREAM that I or him have this problem. He does not beat me mentally or physically when drinking but boy does it get on my nerves...He's a daily drinker of beer and on an occasion drinks Jim Beam. THat's the part i hate, the Jim Beam...I left for a year and a half because he used to drink and start bitching but he learned to not do that now... I love him and it's sad. It has started to affect his liver, he says he's getting ready to quit (right before he pops the top on another cold one), maybe he will maybe he won't i can't control that. All i can do is watch and wait and see. I pray he does soon. People who know him at work would really be surprised that he can be as high functioning as he is if they were to see him this next weekend...Take care...
