Macho Cheese Doritos
COsleeveDude replied to Jr425's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I may get flamed, but whatever. I don't think there's anything wrong with eating a few Doritos now and then, if you can handle. Big IF. The idea that you can't have anything bad ever again is unrealistic. I was craving a cheeseburger. Had a few bites of one last week, haven't thought about it since. Until now...mmm...cheeseburger... But, I digress. Wait at least a few months before trying anything sharp like a Dorito. Good luck. -
Contest- How Many Sugar Free Popsicles Have You Had...
COsleeveDude replied to Marty McSkinnystein's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh man, I must've had at least 10 of these in a day once or twice in the first week after surgery: http://www.target.com/QuickInfoView?partNumber=13353480&catEntryId=200352799&categoryId=240005&productId=200352798&overlayId=QuickView&validation=true&position=targetCenter&omnitureSuperCatgValue=&lnk=srch_qi_grid_1_2 -
11 Days Is That Enough Time?
COsleeveDude replied to Goodgonebad's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Say you're getting your gallbladder removed and use your medical leave. You'll want your vacation time to hit the beach when you're skinnier. Two weeks is probably the minimum for non-physical jobs. I took three, thought that was perfect. Good luck. -
Food Intake Has Increased!
COsleeveDude replied to Darlene's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seems normal to me. The "cheats" are what get me. It's a lot easier to eat 6oz of something healthy than 6 oz of something questionable. One example is when I got a cheeseburger..don't criticize, I HAD to go for it, just a test. I had a few small bites and everything was good. A bigger bite, and at the point I was through maybe 1/4-1/3 of the burger. And one more bite just felt like it stuck right at the top of my stomach. And then I was fairly uncomfortable for the next hour or so. But, when I eat what I'm supposed to. Say, chicken breast, I may feel full, but I don't feel too full or uncomfortable. -
Which medications are you on? My Protonix (Pantoprazole) acid reducer causes dizziness. I take it in the evenings after I work out so I don't kill myself. For me it just causes mild dizziness when I first stand up after sitting. I haven't noticed it any other time.

Option For Pasta Lovers
COsleeveDude replied to Spirit Fire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good info, I will have to find that Dreamfields and try it. I haven't had Pasta since my surgery. I don't really crave it, but I wouldn't mind trying it to see how it tastes now and how it goes down. I saw a story a few months ago about this Australian product called SlimPasta, seemed to be getting good reviews: http://slimpasta.com.au/ I assume it will eventually make it to the U.S. if there's not already a way to order it online. -
I Hate My Jackson Pratt Drain
COsleeveDude replied to Philly Yum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said he picked it up from plastic surgeons: lowers infection rate, faster infection detection, and the body can spend less energy processing and excreting waste Fluid, which means more energy for faster and better healing. And, if you have a drain and get lost in the desert, you have something to drink. I don't know if there are any studies to back any of that up, but the upside seems reasonable. I was kind of hoping someone would try and mug me when I had mine. This idea of busting a dirty JP hand grenade on a criminal sounded sweet. But, like I mentioned before, the end of the tube was stabbing a kidney or something, so I probably wasn't in the finest mood. -
Questions For First Consult! Ideas?
COsleeveDude replied to Sannah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check this thread out, might give you some ideas: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/47390-international-sleeve-gastrectomy-expert-panel-consensus-statement-best-practice-guidelines-based-on-experience-of-12000-cases I like that kind of info since I work in science/R&D. I like to know what the doctors, PhDs and MDs, think. Good luck. -
I Hate My Jackson Pratt Drain
COsleeveDude replied to Philly Yum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The last 2-3 days the end of that damn drain was poking my liver or something. I could barely sleep. Worse, I thought I might be getting gallbladder issues or something, since I had already lost almost 40 before the surgery. There was no pain when he pulled it out, for me, just a little bit when he snipped the stitches. And then I was IMMEDIATELY comfortable again. Whatever it was poking was unpoked. -
Webchickadee Argument Thread: Ripping On America (Continued)
COsleeveDude posted a topic in Rants & Raves
Original link: http://www.verticals...lider-food-mean Moved to a new topic and thread per Webchickadee's request (see below). There's no need to disrespect my country in a debate to resolve a personal disagreement. You asked me, unpolitely, to do something. I, in turn, unpolitely declined. If you want to boss people around, go talk to your husband and kids. -

Moved per your request: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/50389-webchickadee-argument-thread-ripping-on-america-continued/ The hilarious thing is that this all started with me sticking up with someone who was obviously being belittled by another poster. The person I was defending was the one who started the thread. Next time, try reading. -
I'm also sorry to hear you're having trouble. So, does that mean you're supposed to eat more fat? While there may not technically be malabsorption, I suppose it is possible that, unless we eat more of certain things and/or more frequently, that we could be passing some of them out before they are fully digested. Whether that leads to a deficiency is a different story, as is whether the deficiency shows up as symptoms or on standard tests. Good things to research and think about, thank you. Again, sorry for your trouble. Let us know what solutions your doctor comes up with.

One Thing Doc Said Today.....
COsleeveDude replied to Justine13's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Whatever floats your boat. Here are three examples to give some food for thought. You can Google and find many, many more: Successful Weight Loss with the Gastric Sleeve: http://www.thegastricsleeve.com/about-our-book.htm Peachtree Bariatrics Sleeve Guide: http://www.peachtreebariatrics.com/docs/Gastric-Sleeve-Patient-Manual.pdf Barnes Bariatric Surgery Manual: http://barnesweightlosssurgery.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Barnes-weight-loss-manual.pdf Point being, this isn't all science. Some of it is art. There are variations in all pre and post-surgery programs. If different surgeons give different guidance, you can educate yourself to find what works for you. For example: some, when having a stall, are directed to eat less. Some are directed to eat more. Point is, no surgeon or nutritionist can know you as well as you know you. If you stall, try eating less. If that doesn't work, try eating more. Don't let a manual override learning and common sense. But, I also understand where you're coming from. We all have our choices to make so we can live the way we desire. Good luck. -
I was a 4-5 for a couple of hours after surgery in recovery until they got me ahead of the pain with some shots of whatever the heck it was. After that it was a 0-2, and I was released the next day with no pain in the PM after they took me off the morphine drip in the AM to prep for release. I took some liquid pain meds home and ended up using some for a few nights to sleep, but not for pain. Just be honest about your pain level, there's no shame. They'll give you whatever you need to get it under control.

One Thing Doc Said Today.....
COsleeveDude replied to Justine13's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Every program is different, but there are some consistencies: Protein first, obviously. First week or two is clear liquid, next week or two is full liquid, next couple/few weeks is soft and moist, with a transition to solid foods around weeks 4-8. I fully believe you should Google and do your own research, and then modify what your surgeon or nutritionist tells you, within reason. This is an education process, eventually we all know quite a bit, and we know our own bodies. If you follow the "general" guidelines and then use your knowledge to customize your own plan, to me that's what it's all about. I don't want a manual forever, I want to learn and grow. -
Started The Collagen Lotion Today!

Started to lift weights this week. I figure eventually the muscles will show up more as they get bigger and I get thinner. -
How Much To Lose Without Getting Denied?
COsleeveDude replied to Paigers's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would be careful. If you drop below the typical number for approval with comorbidities, which is usually 35 BMI, that might be their excuse to deny. That's a difficult situation, because you might be right on the borderline of approval already. Talk to your doc and do as much research as you can ahead of time. Good luck. -
I Have A Odd 10 Day Diet
COsleeveDude replied to ArtSong's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's basically the post-surgery week 2 diet. Isn't gonna hurt, will probably help shrink the liver some. Every program is different, I guess. -
Does the doctor think it's a problem?

I Have A Odd 10 Day Diet
COsleeveDude replied to ArtSong's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's some hybrid version of the 14-day liver shrinking diet, methinks. -
Work with your doctor and a bariatric surgery program to craft and file an appeal. There's probably info on how to appeal the decision in the denial letter. Seems like many insurance companies deny a lot of people on the first request, probably because there's such overwhelming demand for the surgery. Good luck.

What Does Slider Food Mean?
COsleeveDude replied to jennrus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, but thanks for asking. What makes you quite certain? You're the first to comment on it. Childish and petty bickering is very mature. For proof, check out the Republican and Democratic National Conventions over the next couple of weeks. -
I don't subtract exercise calories, but there's probably nothing wrong with it if you can estimate well enough. I've actually added Protein and calories lately because I'm working out more and getting into a weight lifting routine. I think any method is good as long as you're happy with your rate of loss and body composition. I'd rather lose a little more slowly and gain some muscle along the way to help balance things out.

What Does Slider Food Mean?
COsleeveDude replied to jennrus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's not an apology. Since you don't know how to apologize, here the translation of what you said: "I'm sorry IF I made you feel bad, and here's my continued justification for doing something wrong." Here's what an apology looks like: "I'm sorry I MADE you feel bad."
