    in need of new shoes

My husband and I are both big New Balance fans I have never bought a pair I didn't like. I even bought a cheap pair of NB WT310BP at Kohls on sale last year for 39 and they are my faves right now as they are super light and they have that breathable mesh I wear them sockless and they feel awesome ! My husband was running 10-20 miles a week so I spent a bit more on his NB817s(older style his fave) they were around 110 I ordered from Amazon.

    Found my transfer addiction

Maybe look for some better recipes like home made granola bars and whole grain breads and muffins of course you will need to watch they are not high sugar...I would not go low carb for growing children I actually wouldn't period but that is me I would just try better quality carbs. Or you could try scrap booking or something equally addictive and time consuming.... I have decided to make my family's food healthier as well as my own I have never allowed my children to be overly picky about fruit and vegetables and my hubs is military and likes to stay fit so it is going ok.
  5. I am nearly 6 months out and still struggle to go slow sometimes and with me the consequence is it sometimes comes right back up:( I try to multitask while eating to slow myself down I am actually eating dinner as I am replying to this thread lol

    Desperately seeking advice

Kaiser may advise this but it is not absolutely necessary to drink Protein drinks IF and only IF you can get all your protein from food.My experience with Kaiser (I did clinicals there for nursing school)is that sometimes they do things a little different.I would definitely take Protein shakes if I was not getting enough from food but just about every nurse, doc, or nutritionist I have talked to has said it is best to get it from real food if possible and it makes sense to me.

    Never Ever Again

I forgot to add bread to my "can't do" list I occasionally do 1/2 of an Alternative English Muffin with little to no discomfort but straight up bread or buns even 1/2 make me very uncomfortable.

    Never Ever Again

I wasn't placed on any restrictions once through the stages however was advised to always follow Protein first rule. I am nearly 6 months out and I can tolerate a little bit of pasta like an ounce or so but rice is the hard thing for me I will have a "taste" bite but have to quit after that or I will be sick I generally try to avoid both of these things though:)

    Desperately seeking advice

I agree with nursegrace you should be getting your protein mostly from food. My surgeon told me at 8 weeks he wanted me getting as much protein from food as possible and using a protein shake as a last resort no more than 1x daily. I notice I don't do as well with getting in all my protein when I ignore the protein first rule idk if that is what you are doing. I find that the 5-6 mini meals works best for me as I can still only manage 1-2 ones of meat at a time. I tend to rely on healthier deli cold cuts and 0% Greek yogurt when I am in a hurry and I also eat nuts occasionally.

    African American Sleevers

So I am nearly 6 months out and 60lbs down. I am noticing I am having a bit of hair loss but I also haven't been as vigilant about getting in ally protein only around 45-50gms a day. I am working on boosting that thank goodness I had a ton of hair to start lately I have been wearing it my natural curly style so my big curls(I am mixed) make it look fuller it also cuts down on the damage from heat styling. All in all it has been a great experience
  15. I would go with the VA personally. I went through the bariatric program for dependents and retirees only with a Military Hospital. We had people in our support group going through VA channels and our program manager left our program to manage the VA program here in San Antonio and it seems like a great program very similar to the one I went through. The support and follow up is as important to me as saving the money would be.6 or 8 months is not that long once you start:)

    What's up with red meat?

I had red meat when I was cleared for solids at 6 weeks my surgeon advised me to try whatever meat I thought I could tolerate. I actually still have a tougher time with drier meats like turkey or chicken I am over 5 months out...I can tolerate steaks cooked medium-medium well and stewed meat for me moisture content of meat is key and of course lots of chewing
