Hello I'm an African American woman who was sleeved on April 11,2013. This was the best decision I made in my life!!!!!!! So far no complications. My skin seem to be glowing and I wear a sew in so I have no noticeable hair loss. I'm 23 pounds down since the 11th until today the 20th also my surgeon was Dr.Steinberg

ANY APRIL SURGERIES?....
erinsmcool24 replied to mmlucas77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey guys I had my sleeve on April 11th and Im so happy about it. My surgery was performed by Dr. Steinberg outside of Atlanta GA. Today is my third day out and I feel fine. I have a little pain but its tolerable Im trying to get all the liquids in but Im finding that hard. Before Aprill 11 I was a uncontrolled type 2 diabetic but since the surgery I havent had any medication and my blood sugar has been running in the 80's. Anybody that is a diabetic will definitely understand what a great feeling that is. I weighed myself this morning and so far Im 10lbs down on day three. My hospital stay was very minimal I went in on April 11 and and was home on April 12. The key is not to let the pain get the best of you, get up and walk and alot of the pain will subside. The hospital staff was so so amazed with me because as soon as I got out of surgery I got up and walked and went to the bathroom. Let me state this you will have pain after surgery and a morphine pump but most of the pain is gas pain so if you walk a lot of that will go away. If anyone has any questions reply to me or email me at erin_smith8@aol.com, I will be also creating a youtube video as well soon -

Hello everyone I just completed my six month supervised diet program that United Health Care required. I received my approval last week as well. My surgeon requires an Upper GI before surgery and I complete that on April 1 and I will get my surgery date on April 1. Im so so so excited to finally have a chance for a healthier me. I have researched this surgery for the last two years and finally made the decision to go for it. I cant wait!!!!!!!!! -
Trying To Keep It Together

People always have something to say. I was in the surgeon office and this lady was saying she prayed that she would die after the bypass, plus she hasn't loss much weight. The other lady she was talking to had been very successful and they had surgery days apart. Basically that let you know it depends on the person. My initial wls that I wanted was lapband but after research I think the sleeve will be better for me. I'm in the process now, seeing nutrition, psych, supervised diet, and pulmonary test than approval from insurance. So I'm getting closer. Good luck to you and do what your heart desire if you believe you will be successful with the lap band than you will be successful. -

Very Emotional Today :(

I completely understand, I have those days also. I’m starting to handle it alot better now because I know a change is coming. I went through a big depression for a while because after having my son I gained soooo much weight. I managed to lose 53lbs but I do need to lose more. I really think the lapband is what I need to get at least 100 lbs off or more. "If only I can weigh less than 200lbs" (that is my goal) I have researched so much and I realized the lapband is a tool that I can use and it fit my life. Im starting my supervised diet this month ( it has to be six months) so Jan or Feb I plan on being a bandster. Good luck to you and I wish you the best success with your weight loss journey and life -
Very Emotional Today :(

I can totally relate I had to take steroids just for a couple of days and they make you crave all types of foods. Finally my asthma/allergies became controllable. I break down also just looking in the mirror or if someone says a certain thing. Finally I have decide to do something about it by getting the lapband. I started my journey I have went to my seminar, met my surgeon, got my pcp to be on board, and found out my insurance will pay ( hooray). Now I have to go on a supervised diet for 6 months because my insurance require it and complete my psych evaluation and 2 other test. Good luck to you I know we will succeed. -

good luck to you, I will be at that point soon also therefore I can only imagine -
Hello Well I have finally decided to go for the Lap Band ( yeah me) I have been comparing the Lap band and the bypass and pretty much decided the lap band. So I have officially started my journey. I met my surgeon and he called and verified my insurance benefits, the only thing Im worried about is if I have to be on a supervised diet for 6 months because that’s one of the requirements ( Im hoping there is a way around that). I have to go visit my PCP to get the "ok" from her which I think will be no problem then on to my prerequisites for the lap band surgery which involves the pysch eval, etc. Im so ready for this weight loss tool because I have been on every diet you can imagine and always seem to fail. I do understand you have to change your eating habits so the band can work for you. I’m so ready for this, I’m ready to become healthy, happier, and able to do more without my weight holding me down. Well I have finally decided to go for the Lap Band ( yeah me)
