@@Shell88 Hi there! I had surgery in June and I really didn't tell anyone because this is MY journey and it's really none of their business. The hardest part for me is the mental and emotional part and changing my thinking and belief system. Just remember that this is for YOU. You can do this, I know you can!! I had surgery on June 16th so I am now starting on soft foods. I am still drinking my Protein shakes and eating Soups and other liquid sources, but when I try to eat I always get a really bad pain in my chest. Is that normal and how long is that going to last?

This might be a stupid question, but will insurance cover these items if you've had surgery in Mexico? Has anyone tried?

Hi everyone! Just wanted to check in and let you know how my journey is going so far.... HW: 340 SW: 329 CW: 316 I had my surgery on June 16th in Mexico and it went very well. I feel very blessed that I really didn't have any problems after surgery and the healing process is going very smooth. My incisions are healing good too. I started back to work this last Monday so I only had to work 4 days because of the holiday so that is good. I have to be honest though, I weighed myself today and the scale hasn't moved since last week. I know that I need to be easy on myself but it's hard. Regarding the eating part of this whole thing......it's been a little rough. The first two weeks were pretty easy for me, liquids and protein. But now that I can start adding softer foods, it's a little rough because of the restriction and trying to get used to that. I know this is part of the journey and I know it will get better every day, because so far it has. I truly believe that having a positive attitude has helped me a lot too. Now, I just have to start adding exercise into my daily routine and I think that will help a lot too. Here's to my new found independence! Happy 4th of July! Holly

Hi everyone! I was sleeved on June 16th. I can't believe it's been a little over a week and I can't believe that I am officially on the "post-op" side, LOL. I had surgery in Mexico and I went alone. I was never nervous and my surgery went really well. All of the nurses and staff took such great care of me. I haven't had any issues, and my recovery is going very well too. I took two weeks off from work and I'm on my second week, I go back to work next Monday. I've just been walking a little bit each day and tomorrow I'm going to start back at the gym. Just for the cardio and because it's so hot outside that it sucks to be out in the middle of the day. I just wanted to check in with everyone and give a little update. Hope you all are doing great! In 2012 I started the process of getting surgery. At that time I was going to use my insurance and, as most of you know, there are many hoops to jump through for a 6 month period of time before you even get approved for surgery. Well, I did everything that was required but I wasn't able to lose the weight so I decided to just try to lose it on my own. Even though I was going to go through my insurance and use a Dr. in the U.S. I still researched having surgery in Mexico. Now fast forward 2 years and I haven't lost any weight and I'm 20 pounds heavier then when I started. So I made up my mind that I really want to have this surgery and I've done a lot more research of having it done in Mexico and will be paying out of pocket. I really don't want to travel by myself so I met with my sister and told her that I was planning to have the surgery in Mexico and I really wanted her to come with me (she already knew about me wanting surgery from 2 years ago and even came with me to some of my appointments) so I felt comfortable asking for her support. She kind of freaked out when I told her and said she needed to talk to her husband about it. I gave her all the materials and research I've done for her to read and told her that I felt comfortable with it. But I understood her reluctance since it was her first time hearing about the Mexico part. Anyway, she has taken 3 weeks to get back to me and finally this morning she called me and told me that her husband doesn't want me to go to Mexico and he doesn't want her to go with me. My heart sank! I have been there for her and her family whenever they needed me. I've taken time off work to care for her when she had foot surgery, to watch her kids, dogs, house etc. and she can't/won't support me with this? I'm feeling rejected and discouraged. Has anyone been in this situation that when your family found out you were going to have surgery in Mexico they won't support you? And if so, how did you handle it? Just need some uplifting advice. Hi all, My surgery is set and scheduled for June 16th!!! I'm going alone and I'm actually ok with that decision. It'll give me more time to just focus on me, and after the surgery I will be able to take the time to write in a journal and just try to relax before driving back home. I have also made the decision to not tell anyone about my surgery especially people at work. For those of you who have asked or are curious. I made a $500 down payment and the cost of my surgery is $4,000. I'm having surgery with Dr. Sergio Quinones at Santa Fe Medical Group. Hello June Sleevers! My surgery is scheduled for June 16th in Mexico. I'm not scared or nervous I'm just really excited to get my life back and start living again!
