It's been 425 days since my surgery. I started out at 248 lbs. Last year I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I was FAT and unhappy. I did the diet things. I even tried the weight watchers thing but counting points while having 2 kids makes it hard. You end up just grabbing something on the go. I was a size 18 in jeans and they were getting to tight. I couldn't take it any more. My health was taking a beating. I finally decided after hearing so much about “Lapband” that before I spoke to my doctor I would take the time to research it myself. I spoke with many people. I made friends with some wonderful people on facebook that have had it and some offered me their advice and helped me with questions I know a doctor couldn't. I did online research. And Even spoke with people who had gastric bypass as well. Although I already knew That wasn't for me. Once It was clear I was ready for a change I made my first appointment with my doctor. After she looked at my health she said ...I could qualify for the surgery through my health insurance. I explained how I was ready for this and how I took the time to research it before bringing it up to her. She was very impressed and eager to help me. I had to do a lot of blood work. I had to see a shrink to see that I was mentally stable to go through with it and have support at home. I had to get an x-ray, and Upper G.I.. The upper g.i. was the worst part. More blood work. It seemed to never stop. I went to meetings, meant others considering this same thing and meant with my new lapband doctor. I decided to only tell my parents and sister and best friend at first besides my husband. I felt I didn't want people to fight me about this. I'm sorry to those who may have been surprised by that. But in fact I was right. After the surgery I had may people try to talk me out of it before I could mention I had already done it.
Today stands a more healthy person. Who is not giving up on her life and health. I am now 176 lbs. I have lost 72 lbs since my surgery. My size 18 jeans are a thing of the past. I'm now into a size 10. Which to be honest I haven’t been since before high school. I am no longer taking medications for my diabetes and my doctor said I am no longer be considered a diabetic. I'm off all my medications. I joined a gym a year ago and started making the right decisions of eating, even if its on the go. I hope to hit my goal weight by New Years 2014. Thank you to all of you who have been so supportive. You all mean the world to me.
