    1 week post ops

I'm day 10 post op and didn't have these issues. I'm sorry that you are! In fact, after the first 3 days, I was able to drink normally, didn't have to sip.
  2. I made this yummy creation today. I took 1 packet of instant sugar-free chocolate pudding (I used Jello brand) and 1 packet of double stuffed cookie flavored Syntrax nectar Protein powder and 2 1/4 cups of unsweetened, 30 cal vanilla almond milk. I used MFP to get the nutritional info. per 1/4 cup serving:: 76 calories 1.5g total fat 9.6 carbs 6.3g protein It's SO GOOD. I want to experiment with other pudding/protein powder flavor combinations now! I have chocolate mousse powder and cheesecake pudding that I'll be trying next!!!
  3. I keep seeing the commercial for the supplement Ruby Reds and I'm just wondering if it's a legitimately good product to use? I'm still pre-op but I'm trying to figure out what supplements would be best to do post op. Also, is anyone using biotin to keep their hair? I already have sort of thin hair and I'm worried about losing more after surgery. Any tips on what I can do to maintain my hair as much as possible? And lastly, what - if anything - did you use to help your scars heal/fade? Do you use anything to try firming your skin as you're losing weight?
  4. I'm feeling really, really good. I've been able to move around pretty comfortably for several days - I've tackled cleaning the house, I went shopping yesterday, today I spent the day cooking... It's been a really smooth road for me. I'm on soft foods and everything is going down well. I get a little gassy with my Protein shakes, but everything else has been great. No nausea, no vomiting, no bad reactions to anything I've tried. People on this forum say your taste changes, but I find that everything tastes as it did before. Slight snag this evening. My incisions are all glued instead of stitched. Once of the glue chunks came off and the incision is open underneath. I called the doc and he got back to me 5 minutes later (at 945 on a Saturday night) and said to cover it with clean gauze and it will close up on its own. Scary, but was good to know he is reliable to got back to me asap!
  5. I just took a shower and while washing my incisions, the glue chunk from the incision in the upper middle part of my abdomen came off. I didn't think this was a big deal until I got out of the shower and realized the incision was open! My hanging belly is pulling it open. When I sit/lay, it's closed. I covered it with a gauze pad, but IDK if I should go to the ER or something to have it glued? Do they sell glue like that at the pharmacy? I'm so worried, what do I do???
  6. I was obsessed. Pretty much from July last year til I got sleeved last week, it's all I could think about. It helps to be prepared!

    Bloated Stomach

How much do you still have to go to goal? What are you eating in a day? Are you exercising? Did you follow up with your NUT at any point since you've stalled? I'm sorry you're not getting what you wanted out of surgery. I hope you can get back on track!

    REALITY CHECK

is bitchery like a magic power? Like wizardry? lmao I agree there are some haters, but remember that not all fat people are jolly. And this surgery doesn't replace your stomach with a new personality, unfortunately. If you've been bitter and angry because you're fat, then you're still gonna be bitter and angry when you lose weight, if you don't make up your mind to change! I think some sort of anti-depressant should be mandatory for most post-ops, at least for a few months. We could all use some STABILITY!
  10. Doc got back to me - he said to cover it with a dry gauze and keep it covered. He said check it for any pus drainage and it should scab over, but might leave a slightly bigger scar. I'm really not worried about scars. But infection scares me! So I'll keep my eye on it. If it's not healed up by Monday morning, I'll call me PCP and see if he can get me in to glue it up.
  11. I don't, and I don't think that would be strong enough. Since it's at the top of my abdomen, I feel like it gets the most force of gravity pulling down. I wasn't scrubbing or anything, but the glue came off and I think it may have taken a scab with it. I'm just terrified it's going to get infected or something. I put a call into my doctor, they said I should get a call back in 20m. In the mean time, I'm bawling. I swear, I used to have a thicker skin, lately I cry when I have any overwhelming emotions.

    chocolate protein pudding

Just a heads up - it takes a lot longer to firm up than with regular milk and doesn't get quite as solid. if that bugs you, try using skim milk - or dare i say 2%

post op life: better than expected.

well, my chicken soup didn't end up as what I planned, but I discovered a can of tomatoes in the pantry I forgot about. I stink at writing recipes, so this will be more like a narrative of how I cooked it. Also, i don't always measure stuff when it comes to soup, so this is vague in some parts. I added a scoop of nectar unflavored Protein powder to my 1/3 cup serving at the end (make sure it cools!) and it was pretty good - each scoop of that has 10g protein. I sauteed a cup each of diced celery, carrots and onions in about 2 tbsp olive oil. I added 2 cloves of garlic, minced, black pepper, a tsp of Kosher salt and a tsp of celery salt (the only thing I DO measure is salt cuz I have a hx of HTN). I simmered that down for about 5 minutes. The longer the better, get the veggies nice and soft. Then I added 1 tbsp tomato paste and a tbsp of "Better than Bouillon" chicken flavor bouillon. stir and cook for another min or two, you want the tomato to cook out some good flavor. It will darken all the veggies as it cooks. Then I added a large can of diced tomatoes. I used Cento brand, but anything would do, I'm sure. Low sodium tomatoes would be best, but I can't always find those and this is what I had. Cook that to a slow bubble. While it's heating, add in spices. whatever you like. I added 4 shakes of red pepper flake, some montreal chicken seasoning (like 2 shakes), a shake of garlic powder, and onion powder, I have some fresh basil so I diced about 6 leaves of that. I also added 2 bay leaves. I happen to have all that around, you can easily substitute what you like/have. I let the tomato mixture cook for about 45 minutes. I use my trusty coated cast Iron pot for Soups,so it can take the prolonged heat. This cooks out some of the Water in the tomatoes, and also softens the veggies. I then added 2 boxes of low sodium chicken broth and some diced parsley. Stirred, tasted to adjust seasoniing and simmer another 1/2 hr. At this point, you can eat as-is if you're on a mushy stage of your post op diet or farther out. I'm on soft stage, so I used my stick blender to make a blended soup. It's sort of a minestrone/tomato soup hybrid. Or if you're on clears, you could strain the veggies and the broth is really good too. I served 1/3 cup with 1 scoop of Syntrax nectar protein powder and garnished with parmesan cheese.

    Abdominal compression bandage?

I only wore mine a couple of days. It wasn't quite long enough and the bottom rubbed on my lower belly giving me a friction blister. It helped those couple of days I used it, but after that I didn't need it. I'm 9 days out now and feeling great.

    Can I do this...

I say DO IT. I did it. Had all those thoughts! I'm 32 and HAVE NEVER BEEN ON A PLANE. Ever. I might be the only person that I know who hasn't ever been on a plane. I don't want to live my life being "That lady who's too fat". "That lady who's too fat for her plane seat." "That lady who's too fat for the roller coaster." "That lady who had to ask for a different table because she couldn't fit in the restaurant booth." etc, etc... I'm only 9 days post op, and I have A LONG way to go, but I could cry when I think about how, for the first time in my life, this is going to happen. I'm gonna lose weight! I'm gonna be able to shop for clothes again! I'm gonna be able to cross my legs! I'm gonna be able to do so many things that I would never even THINK of doing because I won't be "That lady who's too fat" anymore. I say DO IT. DO IT NOW. DO IT WHILE YOU ARE YOUNG. WHILE YOUR KIDS ARE YOUNG. Do ittttttt.

    %stomach taken out?

It's not about a percentage to take out. As Laura said, they have a goal to remove the fundus. Our anatomy is not exactly the same from person to person, so someone could have a particularly stretched out stomach pre-sleeve and require 85% taken out, where someone else will have a smaller stomach and it equates to only 60% being taken out. The percentage isn't what important. They use a bougie so they get a uniform sleeve size post-op -- however much of your stomach has to be taken out to get to that sleeve size is irrelevant.

    Brand New and a question

There are shaker cups designed to break up the little bits. You can look up shaker cup on amazon or target or walmart and see what they look like. They carry them in stores, usually somewhere near the shakes themselves. I use premier Protein shakes from costco. They are ready to drink so I don't have to worry about mixing them. Also, Syntrax nectar has a ton of varieties in powder flavors. I mix those with Water or almond milk depending on my preference. Their chocolate Truffle is yummmmy. Get a sample pack on bjsbariatrics.com. They also sell shaker cups that have a compartment for powder that screws on the bottom AND has a ice pack that goes in it to keep it nice and cold! If you like Syntrax, they have good deals for the tubs on amazon.com. Congrats on your surgery - I hope all goes well. I'm 9 days out today and feeling AWESOME.

    I have something to say!

Some people do become a bit fanatical after their surgery. They take the "living a healthy life" path and run with it (literally) and never get off. I see people in a group called VSG Gym Rats!!!!! and I just think "Good for you, but I don't see that being me." That said, I do exercise. I am embracing better food choices. But I didn't have this surgery to be on a diet for the rest of my life. I can get my requirements in with foods that I enjoy, and part of my emotional health may require that I have some chocolate or enjoy some pizza (when I get there!) when I want to. I feel bad for the people who think there's no other way to be, who think it's okay to badger someone on the same path they are on simply because they don't want to do it. Reminds me of (some) reformed alcoholics or (some) Christians. DO YOU!
