  1. Hi everyone - it has been a little while . Thanks Kayaagh and Kelli for your positive comments re my stall - this thread has some really kind people on it which I have found so helpful and inspiring. Welcome to the new people that have joined - you will find some laughs and some shoulders to cry in here plus tons of valuable advice! I am glad to report that after two weeks of no weight loss I finally lost a kilo last week and now weigh in at 70.4kgs - only ONE kilo off having a BMI of 25. - healthy range! I am moving my focus to getting my cholesterol down and trying to remember to take my Calcium twice a day - I know it is really important but seem to have a mental block when it comes to remembering this supplement. So these are my goals. Also try and keep my fluids up too. It is great to hear about everyone's progress and to hear that everyone is doing so well. Lila - great to hear you are back at work - just take it easy as I know how tired I was and I didn't even have to work!
  2. I have felt sick on numerous occasions and vomited twice - all from eating too fast. I am still working on keeping it slow and I am sure this will take a while as I am trying to break a lifetime of habits! I have actually been feeling a bit flat lately - mainly because my weight has finally stalled and I am only 2 kg away from being in the healthy BMI - I so want to get there. I have to own up to not doing any exercise up to this point and for some reason I seem to be constantly snacking lately - not on the right things. Those old habits are hard to beat also I am kind of board with constantly eating Protein. I was a bit disappointed that my blood tests showed that my cholesterol is still in the high range at 5.7. I was hoping it would have come down a bit more. This is probably due to me not eating lean enough protein. At this stage it is looking like I will just have to live on fish, skinless chicken and nuts! My hair is falling out and is so thin so can't wait until that settles down. Sorry for the big moan - I know this is pretty much test book reaction when you get this close to goal. :-)
  3. I think each surgeon has their own regime. I was on the pre-op diet for 3 weeks (which ended up being near 4 weeks!). Post op was clear fluids for one day after lean test , 2 weeks of liquids, 2 weeks of puréed food, then on to normal food and just experimenting myself.
  4. It is around the 3-5 month mark after surgery but I am sure it is different for everyone. I read on one of the other threads that a lady was off to buy a wig which kind of freaked me out! My dietician said that only about a fifth of people lose hair but from what I have read it seems that a bit more than that experience some loss. I am just keeping the Protein up, taking my supplements and hoping for the best i.e. that I don't end up the 'skinny bald chook!' Sent from my iPhone using VST
  5. Hi Kelli - I used to get it but it has now disappeared so it might go. I seem to have finally had my first stall this week as well as the hair fall. A bit discouraging I must admit. I am also having a struggle with my diet - just seem to want to eat all the Halloween left over chocolate! I packed my son off to school with them to get it out of the house! 6. Great to hear you are going so well Scotty. Yes Shell - I am losing a bit of hair too and it is so dry. I am going to try the caffeine shampoo and change my Vitamins back to the silica herbs of gold - I don't think the hair skin and nails Suisse is as good. Minz - I did experience nausea straight after my op but is was due to my reaction to the morphine more than the actual procedure. I stopped the morphine pump and was fine after that - pain was actually minimal and I think I was just pressing the pump more than I needed to as I was scared of the pain!
  7. Great to here it all went well for you Scotty. We swallow a lot of air even when we are just talking so that may be why you have the hiccups. I had a similar sensation but it does pass after a few days.
  8. Lila - great to hear how you are progressing. Just keep telling yourself that your parents are doing this out of love and they have probably been out of their minds with worry over the last several weeks - It makes people behave in an extreme way. Still the yelling might be a bit hard to take :-)! I felt weak until about six weeks after I got out of hospital so don't worry. Just listen to your body and only do as much as you can handle physically as well as emotionally. It all sound like you are pretty much tracking normally. I remember looking forward to scrambled eggs so much - when I could finally have it, I could hardly eat it and I cried! Don't worry if this is how you feel as it does get better as you come to terms with how much and how slowly you have to eat. As time goes by you can slowly tolerate a bit more. Puppyphat - I am the same with carbs - two teaspoons of rice and I'm done. I just hardly eat carbs with exception of my muesli or bran in he mornings. My surgeon has told me that is all the carbs you need for the day - not sure if that is exactly right but I seem to be surviving! I am more worried about the vege side of things as I just can't seem to fit much else in other than my Protein - would love to munch down a huge crunchie green salad - heck I never thought I would ever say that after that torturous pre op diet!
  9. Hi all Nessa - that is a huge weight loss! Well done! With fluids it does also include all fluids so tea, coffee, vege juice, fruit juice ect and is a minimum of 1.5 l. If you include everything you are probably getting there. I too struggle with fluids so that is my current challenge - if I am sitting down anywhere I just have that Water bottle in front of me and I say to myself 'you can't eat until that 600ml is finished!' Aim getting there and I have to as I have a serious issue with constipation - which I won't bore you with! Bella - great to hear you are recovering. Everything you are going through sounds pretty much the same as me.i didn't have a great reaction to the surgery and morphine after the op so it took me a good 24 hours to come out of the fog. I can honestly say I don't think my energy levels were anywhere near normal until about six weeks post op. Sounds like your weight is coming off which is great - you must be delighted. Karagh - sorry you had a blah day! I I hope things are on the up now - those cravings are the worst - I didn't have a sweet tooth before this op but I still do dream about pork roast with crackling, roast potatoes etc and being able to eat the whole thing! Then I think - thank God I can't! I have eaten some not so 'healthy choices' since the op but I figure that you can eat so little of it that is isn't going to complexly de-rail your weight loss so I am not too hard on myself. Be kind to yourself with all the huge adjustments - their will come a day when you just won't have the cravings anymore because the association of comfort from those foods will be gone - I am hoping that is how it works anyway!
  10. Sorry Lila - 26kg!!! Sent from my iPhone using VST
  11. I can't say I am a big fan of pet names - the young woman that served me at Guess the other day kept calling me 'hon' and 'honey' - I found it a bit strange. I nearly said 'thanks sweet cakes' just to see her reaction. I don't think people realise that they are even saying it sometimes. Just let people know nicely that you don't like that pet name because it reminds you of the pig 'Babe' - I think they will be able to fill in the blanks themselves so you shouldn't need to say anymore!
  12. Shell, puppyfat - well said when it comes to toxic men! Kelli - I think you are looking fab with your hubby - love the picture as it looks like you are having fun! Puppyfat - I agree that you will have to change your handle to 'looking hot'! Size 10 - I don't this that is a reality for me. She'll - well done with the personal training - something I aspire to once I get back to work and have money again! - just another excuse as I STILL haven't got back to my walking! How are the muscles? Sent from my iPhone using VST
  13. I just learnt the other day from a friend that is doing an intense course with a personal trainer that protein stops muscles aching after exercise - hence body builders having protein shakes after working out. I have never learnt so much about nutrition as I have in the last 3 months!
  14. :-) I am still impressed! Went for a walk last week for 6 km and it took me hour and a half - it was hilly but I was so buggered. I came home and had to have a sleep!
