What Should I Take To Hospital?
AngelBaby replied to billyvmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
heating pad, kindle charger -
I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Ponce on September 14th.. I was told pre op diet is yogurt and Water for 3 days and then of course nothing after midnight the night before surgery.. nice and simple. Was thinking I bet all that yogurt helps to keep our intestine nice and healthy with lots of the good kind of bacteria I am using Trish as my coordinator, she's been wonderful. I've spoken to MANY people through this forum as well as obesityhelp forums and have yet to hear one complaint about Dr Ponce. At this point I feel confident with my decision to use him. I will be at INT hospital in TJ for 2 nights and then at the Lucerna (hotel) for 1 night. I can't WAIT! one thing I've noticed is that it seems like most of the doctors in Mexico give you a kind of generalized post op diet to follow.. so I've been researching through forums as well as googling to find out what other people's docs and nuts are telling them to do for post op diet, and even those seem to vary quite a bit so I've decided to just stick to one of the most strict/careful diets and play it safe. I am also going to find a nutritionist here local to me before I leave for surgery so that I have someone I can see at least a couple times.. Good luck to you!

I understand the feeling like you are rushing or something LOL I decided on July 5th and had a date scheduled by July 26th.. I scheduled my surgery for September 14th but would have done it waaaaaay sooner if I could have gotten the time off work.. had to wait til I could get 10 or 12 days off in a row because I'm a nurse and work 12 hr shifts on my feet & figured I'll need some time to heal before I have to go back LOL

it made me VERY depressed and restless right about day 10 or so.. but also that same day I suddenly didn't care about smoking anymore.. so I quit smoking and immediately tapered back off of it over a few days

What Are You Going To Do After You Hit The Reset Button?!
AngelBaby replied to urboyp's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
LOVE this thread! I want to run a 10k I want to stop shuddering everytime i see my reflection in store windows I want to zipline I want to feel more confident to date again I want to not have high blood pressure I want to learn how to NOT be a slave to food.. food has made me its b***h. Now I want to make food MY b***h. hahaha Oh yeah and I soooo want to be able to buy clothes at the "normal" size store! -
I've never taken it but I know 2 different people who took it just before climbing into bed.. unfortunately they both woke up in their cars.. and neither of them remembered getting out of bed let alone driving! One totaled her car and was injured, the other gal fortunately 'just' ended up on some random person's lawn.. besides the addictive nature of it these stories also scared the crap out of me. Scary that docs prescribe it to people who don't know about it and for the most part we trust our doctors..

Calling All Dr Garcia Patients...
AngelBaby replied to ready2bskinny's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
understandable!! I think it will really help you once some of Dr Garcias former patients get on here too -
I gotta jump in on this one LOL I am an operating room nurse with great insurance except it will not cover ANYTHING weight loss related!! can you imagine?! in this day and age? LOL so I am going to Mexico with Dr Ponce next month. It costs 5500 and I am financing about 4000 because I didn't want to wait any longer to change my life and better my health. Also I just bought my first house this year so my savings basically all went into closing this house. Anyway I know I can work extra here and there or use a tax refund to hopefully pay it off sooner than the 3 yrs they gave me. Honestly I believe this is a smart move for me. At work I see (on a daily basis) what strokes and heart attacks and diabetes do to people.. I'm done! Basically it is SO worth it to me to pay crappy interest if it means I can do this right away. I'm not suggesting that everyone should just run out and take out a loan for this.. but for ME it was a valid option and I'm grateful the option was there!

Calling All Dr Garcia Patients...
AngelBaby replied to ready2bskinny's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have heard nothing but good things about him, I think you made a great choice... of course this is a very personal decision tho. I'm sorry i haven't been to him, I'm actually scheduled with Dr Ponce on 9-14 but I went back n forth between Ponce, Garcia and Kelly for weeks and finally just picked one LOL do a search for Dr Garcia, you will find tons of good stuff about other peoples' experiences!! also you can go to obesityhelp.com and do the same thing. -
have any of you used the border parking on the US border? I am going to TJ but was told it might be cheaper to park at the border parking lots than it is to park at the airport.. wondering if anyone knows what the going rate is? TIA

Border Parking At Tijuana?
AngelBaby replied to AngelBaby's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
ahhh ok LOL I had my gall bladder removed laparoscopically years ago and all I remember of it was of course the gas pain... but also the drive home. hahaha at the time we lived way out in the country off of a bunch of poorly paved roads and then a couple miles of dirt roads and every single bump made me go "ouch!!!" hahaha I'm definitely bringing my own pillow for 2 reasons.. #1 so that I sleep better while there.. and #2 so that I can hold it over my belly if I need to while we are driving -

great! thank you!! -
I was told Dr. Ponce only asks for 3 days pre-op diet of liquids and yogurt.. I'm noticing there are SO many variations between what different doctors require!! I'm just gonna do what he asked for but have definitely scaled down my daily inhalation of high calorie low nutrient foods LOL for the most part I'm already sticking with high protein low carb and lots of water, trying to condition myself to it too I'm also trying to sllllllllllllllllow down how fast I eat and then really paying attention to when I don't feel hungry anymore. I've noticed there's a big difference for me between 'feeling full' vs. 'not feeling hungry'.

Hi everyone, I just got home from a good friend's house and it was the first time I've got to see her and sit and chat since I decided I was definitely going ahead with surgery and got a surgery date.. I was hoping she would be excited for me but instead I got the "why don't you take that money and spend it on a personal trainer and a nutritionist instead? I can show you how to eat vegetarian and you can come work out with me whenever you want." She just doesn't get it and I was so disappointed.. I really shouldn't have expected her (or anyone for that matter) to be supportive and excited. But seriously, I can't believe that in this day and age there are still SO many people who just don't get it. She actually told me that she understands because once when she was younger after having kids she had to lose 30 lbs. LOL I guess I just needed to vent a bit because I'm so tired of people who tell me to "just diet". Like I've never done that Anyway, I've decided that all the important people that I wanted to know about my surgery now know about it and will be there for me to support me next month when I have surgery. I feel like I need supportive people in my life right now and so I'm SO grateful for all of you!! The rest, well maybe I'll tell them someday and maybe I won't. God it was so disappointing to have such a good friend be so judgemental about WLS though. *sigh* It reminded me to not have expectations of other people and to be grateful my family is so supportive!! Thanks for letting me vent.
