How Are You Doing September 2012 Sleevers?
AngelBaby replied to AngelBaby's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
well first congrats on your surgery date!! I was very lucky and haven't had any pain or problems at all.. unless you count dry heaving right after surgery but that was from the anesthesia LOL it happens everytime I have anesthesia and that went away the first night once the anesthesia got out of my system and I've been fine ever since!! when they tell you it's ok to walk do it!!! that first week or two home my life was walk walk walk sip sip sip LOL I totally recommend myfitnesspal if you don't already have it! also helps to get involved with support whether it's online or local! I have found some great support here and on facebook through some private groups (bariatric bad girls club being one of them). Truly this was one of the top 3 decisions I've made in my life and I'm SO glad I did it!!!! I <3 Elvira (my sleeve's name). p.s. I am angelsept19 on MFP if anyone wants to be my buddy -

Aagghhh! Lyme Disease Is Really Interfering With My Daily Routine.
AngelBaby replied to coffeelover77's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
sorry you are having to deal with that.. I suffered horribly from Lyme disease for 8 years and it SUCKED!!!! what finally helped me was getting a PICC line place and my doctor ordered 2 grams of Rocephin (very strong antibiotic) every day.. it took 2 years of IV antibiotics everyday but we finally beat it. I had horrible neurological symptoms and could only walk with the help of a cane or walker for a couple years. I also had Bell's palsy for a long time and looked like I'd had a stroke. Basically Lyme disease stole my 20s. I am thrilled to say that it's been 7 years since I recovered from it and I haven't had any problems! I hope your doctors figure out how to help you!!!!! -
When Is It Ok To Take Chewable Calcium?
AngelBaby posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 weeks post op and I'm nervous about taking those big calcium pills, wondering at what point did your doctor say you could start taking the chewables? I have this weird vision of them getting stuck... -

YAY! I had a great experience!!! the hospital staff was wonderful. I am an OR nurse in a HUGE level 1 trauma center/teaching hospital so when we drove up to INT I felt a moment of panic because it's much smaller than a typical American hospital LOL but they were wonderful there! check out my pics (the link is in my signature) and see if you can find anyone else on here who will be there at the same time as you because it was fun to be able to compare notes after the surgery. If your coordinator is Trish she will make sure you get introduced to anyone else having surgery with you I felt perfectly safe the whole time I was there. We had surgery Friday and on Sunday went to the Lucerna hotel and a group of us all walked over to Starbucks for juice LOL if you have any specific questions feel free to PM me! -

thanks!!! I am SO happy to see a change, especially since I didn't lose ANYTHING on the pre op diet LOL (story of my life) but it's been dropping off since surgery! I am currently in a stall for about 4 days-ish now but I'm SO not worried about it. -

Yes It Happened...and Yes It Made Me Sad.
AngelBaby replied to Slenderella's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm sorry you had that experience and totally understand why it would affect you. I was not telling people (except my family and closest friends) because I was afraid of that.. but then about a week AFTER I had the surgery I decided screw it I'll just tell people. I felt like it was a great opportunity to educate people about WLS and the sleeve. I am a nurse and I'm amazed how little my fellow nurses know about WLS. Anyway I've been telling anyone that asks and I don't feel like I have anything to be ashamed of and if anyone at work (or anywhere else) wants to judge me because I did this I don't really care LOL This was NOT the easy way out even though so far I've had an easy recovery and am not hungry and no complications and am losing pretty good. The head hunger can be a b!tch tho LOL I DO, however, understand that this approach is NOT for everyone. There are good reasons to keep it private if that is what you are comfortable with. -
welcome!! I am also a nurse, currently working OR and used to work ICU. Now I'm hoping to switch to Interventional Radiology. Yay nurses!! I felt the same way as you.. working OR in a busy level 1 trauma hospital all I saw were patients who'd had complications (adhesions, strictures, fistulas, severe malnutrition).. so that was my view of WLS. But then I did some training over at our outpatient and WLS surgery centers and realized how many people had the surgery and did NOT have complications so I got interested. I really did not want them rearranging my intestine either, way more complications with that from what I've seen over the years as a nurse. Unfortunately my insurance will not cover anything weight loss related so I ended up going to Mexico.. had a GREAT experience there and can I just say their OR was WAY nicer than the world famous one I work in LOL they also use the same exact equipment we do. Anyway I'm so glad I did this, I am about 3 weeks out and already feel way healthier than I did pre op and I'm down 27 lbs! My only regret is I didn't do it sooner but you're not ready til you're ready ya know? Anyway welcome and hope what you find on this site helps you on your journey!

what a cool thread!! I'll jump in on this one.. My name is Angel. I am 38, single, no kids. I am an RN. I used to work night shift (7pm to 7am) in ICU and gained a ton of weight while working nights with lots of stress. Now I work in the operating room and have been considering making a change to work in Radiology as a nurse just for something different. I LOVE how flexible my job is! I have amazing parents and brother and sis in law and a PERFECT niece and nephew. I also have a basset hound mix named Bert and 2 fluffy cats named Bubba and Bitty. I am a pretty hippie-ish. My brother teases me and calls me a "Birkenstock-wearing, tree-hugging dirt worshiper" hahaha I seriously think what the world needs is a group hug. I live in southern CA and just bought my first house in January. I actually do NOT like living in southern CA at all but my family lives here so I do too although I REALLY want to move north to either Oregon or Washington in the next 5 years. I'm much happier when surrounded by trees and nature rather than all the smog and asphalt. Also I really like rain LOL I had a severe case of Lyme disease (from a tick bite) that mostly affected me neurologically and I needed to use a cane or walker for about 7 years before doctors figured out the right combo of antibiotics that put me in remission. I've made a full recovery and having been through something like that makes a person very grateful and I'm super excited about life! I totally credit God for my recovery! I was sleeved September 14th 2012 so I'm about 3 weeks out and down 27 lbs. I am SOOOO happy I did this!
