Bariatric surgeons met in Miami
Wls4me replied to Dr-Patient's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
As a nurse I just think it's important to make sure you can keep liquids down without difficulty before being discharged home. However long that takes. -
Hey Fiddle! I knew you would respond! Do you think the pills are as effective as the drinks? Do you see similar results?
-
I would like to rekindle this topic and see if anyone has found a great product that comes in a pill form. The drinks are a little rough for me so I'd like to try something else.

Let's do Brunch, Lunch or Dinner - how do you handle it?
Wls4me replied to gottagonow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was early post op and went out with friends I ordered tomato soup. I could sip on it for a long time because "it's really hot ;)" As far as being with people that are drinking you can simply say you are watching calories and alcohol is full of calories. Or make your own virgin mixed drink and no one will know the difference. Glass of pineapple juice or cranberry juice diluted with water if you want to cut the calories. No need to be a hermit. I'm over a year out and my husband and kids are the only one that know about my surgery. My thought is that I want to enjoy life, not hide from it because I've had a personal surgery that I don't care to share with anyone. -
My doctor pit me on 20lb lifting restrictions for 6 weeks. I'm an ED nurse and we do a lot of lifting so I was off the whole time.
-
Fiddle, give your pcp a little push to be seen tomorrow. Being an ER nurse for almost 20 years I could explain the whys and hows of what the ER does and doesn't do. This isn't the time or place. Keep hydrating through tonight and make sure you get an appt tomorrow. Best wishes.

Anyone paleo? Symptoms clearing since vsg
Wls4me replied to Seela's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started Paleo about 3 months PO. I also have KP. I'm down 110lbs and past goal. I don't know if it's my diet or the weight loss but my KP isn't red anymore. I have it basically everywhere the sun touches my skin so it's all over. The bumps are still there but like I said, they aren't red. Paleo takes some effort and planning ahead but I feel awesome! It's also an anti inflammatory diet so that helps too. -
If you like coffee I just found Bolthouse Farms make a coffee protein drink with 16g of protein in 8oz. Also has 26g of carbs, don't know if you're worried about that or not.

I bet Cajun seasoning would be good too. And you could change up the nuts, maybe walnuts for some other healthy fats. You could get really creative with just this simple recipe.

My hubby just told me to stop losing weight!
Wls4me posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Never thought I'd hear that. He's been very supportive through all of this. I hit goal and lost another 5 lbs. I'm 5'6" and 155 lbs. my size 10 jeans are getting a little baggy. I'm happy where I'm at and am going to try to stop losing. But that was a very unexpected compliment for sure. Think that counts as a NSV. -
Post-op Pain Control? IV Tylenol? Not convinced.
Wls4me replied to gohelpyourself's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had IV Tylenol and had no pain. I'm an RN and our facility has been using it for a few years. Good stuff. And it doesn't slow you bowels down. -
Thanks guys! I'll have to look for some before pics (kinda hard to find one since I ran away from a camera) lol. I had surgery 2/28/13. Took me 10 1/2 months to get here but I don't mind. I don't consider myself a slow loser either. 100lbs in 10 months sounds pretty good to me. I'll go work on the pics now.

It passed goal today! Started out at 260, goal wait was 160. Last week I was 163, today … drum roll please … 159.6!!!! Holy smokies!!! I can't believe it. This is my lowest weight since middle school, I've got kids in middle school now. I never dreamed I would weigh this ever. I am so thankful for my sleeve. Definitely not an easy journey but worth the effort.

Quick Question - Does milk count as a liquid?
Wls4me replied to Febi135's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All liquids counted for me. Check with your NUT for the best advise for you. -
I have read your posts and am sorry you're going through this. I can't imagine how frustrating it can be. I've also been reading the others posts and suggestions to your issue and solutions. My only question is why a sub and chips? That's a ton of carbs. I saw where you said it was the best option compared to other fast food. We all get stuck in these situations, that's life. But why not order one of their sub salads and eat the meat first? Or if you really want the sub, why the chips? Chips don't fill you up, they tase good but that's about it. Not trying to sound critical, just giving you my thoughts.

Forgot to check in. I'm 163. Didn't make my goal of 160 before the New Year but I also didn't gain over the holidays. Actually lost a couple pounds! That's never happened before ☺️

There's probably going to be a lot of people respond to this and disagree with me but I say go for it. Get your protein in then have all the fruit you want. I personally did not fuss about my carbs too much - usually around 50G a day. But most of the carbs that I do eat are from fruits and veggies. I've taken the approach with this sleeve to eat as clean and natural as I can. So no artificial sweeteners or low fat foods. I figure with the fruits and veggies I get the nutrients too. Like I said, people will disagree but I'm 10 months out and 99 lbs down, 1 lb to goal. It's what has worked for me.

Have you talked to your GYN about hormone therapy, birth control pills, IUD to help regulate you? This is something that is very common to a lot of us. Some get relief some don't. Hopefully you can find something that works.

163.4 Merry Christmas!

Just thought I'd share. I was at Trader Joes today and found mahi mahi burgers. 1g card and 14g protein. Haven't tried them yet but sounds good!

Food ideas to bring to work?
Wls4me replied to luvzpitbullz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nuts if you can have them. Deli meat rolled around cheese. Buy a bag of frozen meatballs and cook a few at home in spaghetti sauce or whatever. I also bought a couple Atkins frozen dinner, they were 3 meals for me but the chicken and broccoli Alfredo reheated pretty good. Canned chicken for chicken salad. Protein bars. That's what I take. I work 12 hour shifts so I bring a lot. -
Checking in. 164.2. Almost to goal!
-
Mahi mahi is more mild than salmon. I might try making some with cod for my kids. They aren't big fans of fish so we shall see. Could maybe even try shrimp burgers.
-
I'm not a fan of salmon - it's too fishy for me. But the Mahi Mahi burgers were awesome! I think I might try making different kinds on my own so I can control the ingredients. Now that it's too cold to grill I just cook them in a skillet with some Pam or EVOO. I put them on the grill in the summer.
