Back again but for good this time

And dont read all about the complications and horrible things until you have a problem. I think it is counterproductive although of course one should be aware that there are risks with everything. just don't expect problems before you do it. It is a tiny percentage that have bad complications..

Back again but for good this time

I was also afraid of the surgery and actually thought about it several years and often concluded that I sure didn't want to have surgery just to lose weight. However I kept gaining and getting more sluggish and eventually I decided that my life as I knew it would be over and get worse if I didn't do something, so I did. Also the statistics for people who lose large amounts of weight on their own are so dismal that I felt this was my last chance and I am doing everything I can to be successful. I was also self pay and I think that helps the motivation along quite a bit. It is awesome to be able to look at someone having something really yummy and not feel like reaching over the table to eat their food. Just amazing. I never understood how people could go without a meal but now I do although of course I get the small meals in. Just amazing and when you are grossly overweight the benefits surely outweigh the risks. The risks of being so overweight are scary,,,
  4. A few days ago I had the golf ball feeling for 2 nights in a row. This was 2 weeks after a 2.5cc fill. Didn't sleep for 2 night and hought I had done something wrong. yesterday I called the doctor and was told to go to hospital where he was and he came and took 1cc out. So I am pretty sure I know what too much restriction feels like as the band was too tight and it was not a good feeling. Now I am maybe a bit more hungry but don't eat much at all and can sort of tell when the pouch is full.. it is just sort a a feeling that nothing more will fit down there... and then I am full for a good number of hours.

    slipped band picture

What are the symptoms of slippage? I am 4 weeks post op and doing fine however the last couple of niight I have what seems like indigestion pain when I am lying down and trying to sleep. Everythign seems to go down fine but I have had mostly liquids today.. At times I burp in the evening also when I ahve the pain. so I am not sure what is going on, I try to drink something but that doesn't seem to do anything. So of course I start thinking that the band has slipped or something dreadfull..

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hi I was banded on feb 28th.. the last few days I go to bed abd start feeling kind of a dull pain like something is stuck which I don't think it is, like indigestion. I just got up to sit up and it is a little better. Wonder if anyone has had that.. I havent eaten anything unusual as a matter of fact mostly liquid today as I was afraid I had done something wrong. It all goes down fine but I seem to burp alot. Maybe it is just air getting caught somewhere. Not sure if I should call the doctor or not..

Scared to death now and having doubts...

Best of luck to you and I am sure you will do well when making this decision. If it is the right thing you will know it.

Scared to death now and having doubts...

I agree with you.. the tool really does help.. I am not hungry but yes if I wanted to sabotage it I could just eat small portions of chocolate, however I don't feel like it because of the band. It is great It is a very helpful tool but like you say people who want to speed will always find a way... nice analogy...

Scared to death now and having doubts...

Hi.. I know how you feel. I had surgery 4 weeks ago and am doing very well. Have lost 28 lbs since my worst weight and I keep losing am down another pound this morning (have to change my ticker). I only started reading he boards after the surgery but if I had before I would feel like you do. I think you have to remember that many who are here are lookign for answers to problems and that the majority have none. I have had none of the problems you talk about and I am so determined to make this work I do everything I have been told. Follow everything to the letter and I will not fail. Dont worry about it but be aware that the band is only a tool and that you have to work with it and be motivated. It is easy though since it changes how you feel about the food. Try not to read about all the big problems, I am doing fine but get the same reaction you do when I see some of them and it scares me. I am very happy that I had it done, I am already fitting into clothes that I bought but have never been able to fit into. Last night I had what seemd like heartburn like soemthign was stuck and maybe I ate something wrong but I am fine now and the other pound down made me feel good. Convince yourself that you will not fail and don't read the bad parts unless you have problems later. I am older than you are so look at this as my last chance, I was not always overweight only the last 15 or so years and I want to be my old self. Think positive and feel good about your decision.. I feel I am rambling and repeating myself but I can feel what you are feeling. I am no longer hungry, get satisfied with the tiny portions and don't crave candy and diet coke, it just doesn't bother me to even look at others eating it.. I may be back if I think of something else. Feel free to send me email if you want.. Lise
  10. I have also been addicted to Diet Coke to the point where I drank nothing else, if not that then at least soda water. When I went on liquids before the surgery it seemed easy to give up and I have not had any for 5 weeks and I am fine without it. I drink water with a little sugar free lemonade in it. I need some kind of taste. I think what helps is to realize that this is serious stuff and that the band is just a tool, we have to do our part, the band alone will not do it and the thought of stretching the puch by drinking it is too scary for me. I had to pay for the surgery which maybe an extra motivator. I am so afraid of doing anything to screw it up and I know this is my last chance. Once you are off it it becomes easy and I don't seem to need it anymore. The desire is gone now, have taken a sip a few times but didn't want any more. I also kind of think that Diet Coke makes you more hungry.

Yes I belive he did and he has lost alot but probably not all his weight.

    Starr Jones-Reynolds

It isn't just the fact that she would look better with a few more pounds on her. I think it is more the plastic surgery than anythign else. Her neck looks very pulled somehow it doesn't fit her face or body and that has nothing to do with the bypass. I also agree with those of you who say that it is a shame she has not become some kind af advocate for WLS. If you are a celebrity you can help many people by sharing what you have done. Maybe she is ashamed that she couldn't do it on her own. If I start looking too thin (what a thought) I would also like it if someone told me that I wasn't looking so good just like I wish people had told me I looked fine in the past when I thought I was fat at 130lbs..

    Has anyone NOT PB'd??

I was banded 4 weeks ago today and am still not clear on what it actually means to PB or what it really is. Obviously I have not had the problem yet but imagine I will.

    Starr Jones-Reynolds

I agree, noone should put someone else down. I think it may have something to do with how I or you felt about her before. I am not personally a fan of hers, so I suppose I look at her and try to find fault, but yes it is life saving for so many...
  15. lrw26

    Starr Jones-Reynolds

She has lost alot of weight for sure but I think she is too thin now. Her face and features look like they are meant to be on a somewhat heavier person, like she should weight 140 or more instead of 124. It just looks weird.

    February 2007 bandsters!

I think losing 17 is good. They tell you that weightloss can be slow with the band so don't be discouraged. I saw someone in the doctors office the other day who had only lost 35lbs in 8 months but she was still happy. Also I don't think you can expect to lose faster if you don't exercise. I think that is a must and the part that we have to do. the band cant do it alone, so get going today. I swim 3 times a week and need to be consistant with my walking.. also must do that today.. !! ask me later if I did, ha...

    48 Hours!

Best of luck with your surgery, trust me it is nice to be on the losers side in this case. I must admit I was very nervous before the surgery, like shaking and hyperventilating, the whole bit but it all went very easily and i have been losing steadily, I have clothes in all sizes and am excited to fit into some of it by now... lsie
  18. DynamoMini.. I didn't really have any help after surgery, just the first day home I needed a little bit, it hurt and was hard to move around. The next few days I just rested and had my liquids and slept from the pain med but I was alone most of the time, so I would say just the first day home is good to have someone around. The first week was bad for me painwise but otherwise non eventful and then I quickly felt quite normal again. lise
  19. Oh I forgot who asked but yes I take estrogen, the small does. I had a hysterectome 15 years ago, still have the overies but that was actually when all my weight problems started.
  20. Bjean.. I hope so.. it is still coming off but it would have to slow down some.. but again this mornign I am down a bit. Age is not going to get in the way. I feel this is my last cahnce to be normal again and I cant fail or I am just lost...
  21. I am just wondering what other people have been told. I was told to only have three meals a day and am curious if there are variations to this. Seems I have read different versions here and there. I have started real foods but meals are so small that I don't know when to fit in the yougurt and fruit etc. In order to do that I would have to have a fruit or yougurt (not crazy for other dairy). I have had first fill of 2.5cc and am scheduled for the second on April 10th. Not sure what it feels like to have restiction and I do get hungry a few times a day especially in the aftrenoons.

    How many meals a day?

Interesting because here at the center in San Diego that is what they tell the gastric bypass patients but they emphasize 3 meals a day for lapband. So I gather there are different approaches and if it works I don't mind straying from their instructions a bit...

    How many meals a day?

Thanks very much... that is not like what I was taught but I think I may fudge a bit as I never did really well with a strict 3 meal a day plan. I need a little something..

    How many meals a day?

Is that what the doctor and dietitian told you or are you going by your own intution..? I do that lots of times and I have a hard time with the strict 3 meals a day as I go exercise in the am, always eat when I get up and need soemthing after the exercise, like fruit or soemhting...:hungry:
