My name is Jeanette, I am 65 years young, I am married, with two children and 3 step children (all in their 40's), this is my second marriage and I have 11 grandchildren. I was always over weight; I remember being in 6th grade and being 135 lbs, I was tall 5'8'', so I carried my weight well. I was abused as a child both physically and sexually, so I turned to food for comfort. My Mother was very negative and always putting me down. My first relationship in high school was abusive. Being abused all my life I thought this was how life was. I lost weight when I was 18 after a bad relationship and met my first husband, and married at 19, it was an out of state relationship, we met down the Jersey shore, so I didn't know he was abusive until I got married. He also was an alcoholic and very angry so I didn't know that until after I was married and moved out of state from my family. I became pregnant and six month after birth of my first son I became pregnant again, I didn't know you could get pregnant while nursing. After my second son I practice birth control since I didn’t want any other children in an abusive relationship. I was able to keep my weight at 150. I was divorced at 30 after my husband tried to beat me up in a drunken rage. I was able to get my sons out of the house a filed for a rite of protection. I was 34 I had uterine cancer and had a hysterectomy. Then my weight problems began. After a few weeks I was 165 lbs and no matter how much I exercised I still was gaining weight with no estrogen. After my abusive husband I had no interest in getting into a relationship and stayed single 19 years. At church I meet my husband of 13 years. I’ve been on a diet my entire life. Having back problem in an injury playing soft ball in my 30’s I could not exercise (swimming only) In 2006 I was in a car accident and I had a breast reduction for back pain. I had wanted to research lap band but my insurance co pays were too high for me to get the lap band. When I got Medicare I decided to research the procedure as I was 236 lbs and my BMI was 38. I have lost 11 lbs and I will be having my surgery on Wednesday Aug 1[sup]st[/sup]. My husband is very supportive and so is my church friends, my family wants me to continue my weight loss plan as they heard it was dangerous for me. I decide to do this for me and it’s not about my family it is for my own self worth.
