3 Weeks Out... Starting My New Life.
cottonkime posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My story actually started 5 yrs ago... Attending my 3 appt, routine blood work... 6 months later we welcomed boy #4! 5 yrs later, back in January I was hospitalized for over a week with what started out as TSS, it then progressed into a bacterial blood infection. I was mortified when over the intercom they requested lifting help... for me! I couldnt believe I let myself get up to 278. In the following days my blood sugars jumped into the 500's. I was put on an insulin drip (I had been diet controlled for 7yrs). I went home on 70 units of lantus and a 1 to 5 carb ratio! I started the process a week later and on May 16th I changed my life forever!! This time I left the hospital off all 3 blood pressure meds, all insulin and a new lease on life. I'll be there for my boys! I'm 43 and 20 yrs ago my dad died of a massive heart attack at 46 yrs old! I have always been heavy, I can remember 3rd grade walking home with boys following going boom... Boom... Boom every time I took a step. Now the only step I'm taking is for my HEALTH. I lost 15 lbs pre liquid diet, 12 lbs in the 2 weeks of liquid and 21 in the 3 week post. I haven't been this weight since Phen-Phen! Thanks for letting me tell my story. I am sooo glad I found you guys, wish they would give this app info with everything else from the hospital!! Oh the picture was from in the hospital, I made a Straw and Tape Crown when I was feeling better. -
I'm 9 weeks out without complications but yesterday and today I can't eat. I doesn't seem to go down. Even yogurt was difficult. I have not had a BM in 6 days and I'm very burpy. Any ideas?

They finally did it... I found it yesterday- Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt. 7-8 grams of sugar, 12 protein, 80 calories and it tastes good!! THANKS DANNON!

I'm in the same boat. Want to snack all day. I'm just focusing on entering EVERYTHING into my fitness pal, getting my proteins, and keeping busy. The more active I am, I've found the more I stay on track. Winters in Minnesota are dark and dreary. I joined a small town fitness center and volunteer at same place that has a thrift store, meeting rooms and craft classes. That's working for now, try different things and if you can switch up your day. Good luck Surgery date 5/16/12.

4 yrs ago had a Mirena placed. My body rejected it a couple months later. Exact same thing, bleeding like a miscarriage (3 months). August 2012 after over an hour appt with my GYN decided it was the best option to try again. Although my chances of a 2nd rejection are at 30%... So far so good. Still dealing with random spotting. Haven't had a heavy period yet (before 10+ days of Heavy flow). You guys have made me question the weight gain aspect though. Surgery date 5/16/12, I've lost 110 lbs but I've bounced up and down 2 lbs since it was placed. I really never put 2&2 together. Thank you I'll have to bring this up with my Dr.

Getting Dlcoggin To Post A Pic
cottonkime replied to nomorefat's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks I do... Off tons of meds. Not too long ago I thought how stupid it was for us to buy a split entry house... I couldn't do the stairs without huffing and puffing. I would pile things up at the top of the stairs so I'd only have to make 1 trip down. Now I fly up and down the stairs all day long! -

I really can't believe I'm sharing this pic!!! I took this 5/1/12... 262 lbs Starting day of pre op liquid diet. (recent highest 278 lbs Jan 2012- Journey starting date). Today 170! Picture taken 2 weeks ago 9/10/12... Size 24 jeans to a 6 and 4x shirt to a large. Hope this works! -
Tried this...I could only pour it over the rocks... Not blended. Maybe that would have made the difference. I couldn't drink it as is, so I bought lemon/lime G2 (low sugar gatorade) and mixed that with it!!! Sooo much better. As with everything... MODERATION!

I live 30 miles from the closet small town that has 1 Starbucks in a sm Target... I went in and asked what iced drink I could order that would be caffeine free, sugar free, and fat free... Her response... "Water". A few customers and I had a good laugh and I enjoyed a nice ice cold water as I shopped. I am fighting an ulcer so I'll hold off on coffee for a while... But some days I sure do miss it.

New Style For The New Me
cottonkime replied to cottonkime's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you everyone. I no longer feel my age (or older). I have so much more energy. Instead of having my kids "fetch" things for me, I jump up and get it/ do it myself. Stay Strong and always Moderation! -
New Style For The New Me

Thank you guys! Bozeswife... All great people in this group have been amazingly helpfull! Pretty much live on the idea- if it doesn't have protein in it, it doesn't go in my mouth & MODERATION!! I stick to 3 protein meals and 1/2 protein bar morn snack & the other half for afternoon. That's 20 grams. I drink tons of water... And exercise- walks, bike riding, some floor work (check with Dr on some, I had to wait 6 weeks to ride & crunches)... But I count running around the yard or taking walks on our property with the kids exercise. Good luck, Stay strong & use this group they are amazing! -
OH this stinks soooo bad! Everything since surgery (May 16th 2012) has been perfect... Off all meds, down 70+ pounds, exercising, having aaa-haaa moments, until yesterday. Started getting very short of breath, rapid heart rate, dizzy... Chalked it up to a panic attack (blood pressure was fine). Then things got from bad to worse. With those symptoms came tarry black stools (not to be gross, just want you to know what to look for). Called my surgery dept, told me to come in to ER. Good thing (we are over an hour away) I had a bleeding ulcer. Hebaglobin 11.7 dropped to 7.1 in 3 hours. 3 pints of blood and an upper GI scope later, I've been coterized and am enjoying a 3 night stay in ICU. They hope they got it all, but I may still be bleeding because my hebaglobin dropped again. Guess I'm starting over again on clear liquids. If you ever have a question call your surgery dept!

Thoughts and prayers coming your way... Stay strong!

It sounds like you've got your head going in the right direction. I think it's a good idea to liquid detox. Post a pre picture on the fridge, on your phone, and in your wallet (for those times you are tempted to buy junk). Good luck and stay strong!

Dang... An Ulcer!

Sh!t Just Got Real. Regrets.
cottonkime replied to got2bethin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there and stay strong. Try to focus on why you did this. Slowly you'll be able to add foods back... IN MODERATION! I found bean or chicken burritos are good, grilled chicken snack wraps go ok. You'll eventually find strength and joy when you overcome food hurdles (past habits). Good luck! -
Would like some input about an upcoming trip... It is s Business Convention and I am trying to figure out a non carbonated, sugarfree, alcoholic beverage to sip on (a weeks worth of business dinners). Prior it would be Bacardi diet or Mike's lite hard lemonade, neither of which will work now. Doc gave me ok to have alcohol but I have no clue what other types of drinks to have. Thanks!

Grilled Fish Tacos, now that sounds good. I figure I'll be ok when we go to a sit down restuarant, lots of menu choices... Not so much at a buffet, for the price anyways. Lots of planning ahead. Boy food is really a SOCIAL crutch... I wasn't as aware of it, as I am now. Thankfully we will be in large groups so I don't think I'll make anyone uncomfortable or self conscience not eating.
-
I also had another thought what about "FUZE" (that low cal 'juice' available at some gas stations) mixed with Vodka or Bacardi? Melonpie let me know how skinny girl is and is it available in bigger cities? Working4shoes thank you... And enjoy your business trips. We already have a company taking us to the buffet at the Mirage and our convention is still 3 weeks away! I definitely have to remember to bring my Surgery card...

Thank you everybody... Great info! To carify things I am not a drinker for the most part. I ENJOY a drink about 10 times a year. I did have a Mikes Hard Lemonade at a graduation a couple of weeks ago. I opened it at 7 pm stirred the heck out of it and SIPPED at it until midnight, throwing about half away. I also drank 24 oz of water during that time. I don't really care who sees me drinking or doesn't, I'm not into peer pressure or faking a drink. I just want to ENJOY sipping an adult beverage while out there. All I ever drink is water/MIO (glorified koolaid). My nutritionalist was fine with how long I took, she was more concerned about the carbonation. Honestly it all boils down to MODERATION and understanding your new body. Thanks again! Has anyone heard of or tried "SkinnyGirl" beverages. Would like to know if they are ok!

Being Asked "are You Pregnant?"
cottonkime replied to Kerri-Lyn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Heard that ALL the time! I carried all my weight in my mid section, I also used to buy plus size maternity cuz it fit better. One day my nephew came up and asked if I was pregnant, I responded No, he said "oh, my mom says you look like you are!" That same sister in law went shopping with me the other day when I had to track down a size 8 jean at one of their other stores! She has always been a petite size 5 -5'2" and cannot and will not ever understand!
