  1. I had the same feeling but my nutritionist set my goal weight at 140. I am happy with that but I would also have been happy with 170 which is how much I weighed when I met my husband. I was in great shape! But, 140 is also where I should be. My body will tell me where to stop and I'm not going to allow myself to get stressed out over the number. I am so happy with my progress already and I will probably start crying once I get under 200 lbs!

    Depression?

OK, so at work the other day I was asked by a co-worker if I've hit the depression stage yet? He said his son had bariatric surgery and he's in a deep depression because he's at a point where he has realized that he cannot be "normal" anymore. I have never heard of this "stage" before and I was curious as to whether it was real or not? I believe that this is something that is possible BUT I also know what I've put myself through by getting this surgery but I know that I will have a new "normal." I felt like this co-worker was trying to set me up for what his son went through. I told him that with each day, I get happier and happier with my progress and I don't see where I can get into a deep depression.

    Bcbs

I have BCBS of North Carolina that is specialized for the State Employees. Once I met all the requirements (approval from PCP, labs, psych, nutrition consult, seminar and pre-op consult) it only took a few days for approval! They required five years of documented weight loss attempt.
  4. It'll be easier than you think at that point! I would talk to your surgeon though just to make sure you can have it since all the doctors are different. You feel like a new person after they let you eat!!!!!
  5. I started two weeks post op and it wasn't really "mushies" for me...I got to eat the following... eggs cottage cheese yogurt (preferably Greek---YUCK!) mozzarella cheese sticks 3 wheat crackers with hummus, Peanut Butter or light cream cheese) 1/2 whole wheat english muffin or 1/2 sandwich flats Beans high Protein Soups... my favorites though were the mini pizzas (1/2 sandwich flat, small amount of spaghetti sauce and 1 oz shredded mozzarella) and refried beans with 1 tsp of salsa and 1 oz shredded mozzarella) The nutritionist told me to go very slow and chew everything to a mush. It was a relief to start eating!!! I'm on fish now and moving to chicken/turkey on Wednesday!!

    Pain

When do you have the sharp pain? Is it during movement or just sitting around? I too had that pain and I thought it was a hernia but my doctor explained that the excess stomach was pulled out of my left-lower incision and he had to put a suture deeper inside and he said it could have snapped or it was just extra strain on the muscle from pulling the large stomach from a small incision. He told me to treat it like a muscle sprain and ice it. My pain started about a week out and lasted about a week. Make sure you aren't lifting anything!!
  9. Hey everyone! I'm super excited to come to this forum! I see a lot if support here! I've gone through all the exhaustion and stress of getting everything together and approved by insurance and now I'm just waiting until the 27th! I'm so ready for this change!! I'm 28 and live in Concord, NC. I'm married with two toddlers and work for the NC Dept of Public Safety in Adult Corrections. I've struggled with weight most of my life ...especially since my sophomore year if high school. I'm at my heaviest now at 256 lbs and 5'4. I look forward to sharing my journey with you!

    Greek Yogurt

Be careful of the sugar content in Greek though...my nutritionist says less than 13 g of sugar for yogurt per serving...the only one I found that was was fanning light & fit which I like but my all time favorite is yoplait light thick & creamy but it has too much sugar :-(

    No Diet Before?

So the nutritionist told me that they do not require the 2 week pre op liquid diet because they feel that their patients get burnt out since we have the Protein shakes for two weeks afterwards then move to soft foods like yogurt and stuff. I'm feeling for those of you who have to do that! Of course this doesn't mean I get to eat whatever up until the surgery. They want me trying different shakes and I've found I enjoy the myoplex. They told me to stop the caffeine, sugar and such so I'm steady working towards that.

    Nutritionist?

Does anyone else have to follow the direction of a nutritionist? I know I can't move to the next phase of the diet until I meet with one once I have my surgery.
  13. Oh great! Best wishes to you on your surgery!

    2Days Post Op

I know after my surgery I will only be able to have protein shakes for two weeks plus I can have chicken or beef broth and drink clear fluids...the protein shakes should cover your protein...
  15. I can't wait to go through this journey with you all! I definitely know what you mean when people say I don't look that big or they would've never guessed I weigh as much as I do. I have a very supportive family except my sister who has never been heavy. I sent a message to all of my family and she wouldn't respond. Instead she called our mom to tell her she is disappointed as if what she says matters! This is a huge decision and you really can't just make a split decision to do it. She has no clue and thinks she knows everything but knows very little. Anyway, I'm not letting her get me down because I don't need anyone unwilling to support me!

Total Cost Of Surgery So Far

I have BCBS and for mine, its running $35000-50000 I believe. I'm in NC. I got some other non weight related surgery in March so my deductible and Max out if pocket were covered already! I owe $291 for the hospital copay! If those weren't met it would be close to $5000 out of pocket.
