My Dr. says that the carbonation expands the stomach, which will cause us to overeat, because we no longer feel full. I no longer drink Coke when I was working in a hospital & they showed us a study where they put a screw into a coke & it dissolved after a week. Imagine What is it doing to our insides?! it also can dissolve the rust off nuts, & remove blood stains... I just couldn't dink another soda after that. I have realized that my body craves water... I can't give up my coffee... it needs to flow thru my veins for me to function...lol. But that is my one vice.

thank you... Just remember... when you do something drastic, like cutting carbs quickly, your body has a memory, & will think that you are starving it.... balance is the key... and you will be fine... change your exercise routine... also, make sure you are getting enough water! good luck, & enjoy your vacation!

I had my band in his office, by Dr. Gonzalez. I have had my consult with Dr. Quiroz. But I haven't saved up enough money... but I have met many of his patients while sitting in his office, waiting to get my fill... pretty clean work. I met a woman, who was from chicago or something, and she had work done in her home state.... and ended up going to Dr. Q to get it fixed... hope this helps!

Have you thought about getting a complete UNfill, then a few weeks after go for a fill again... I was told by my surgeon that it is sort of like a restart of sorts...
-
I hiccup when I eat too fast... then I realize that I am too full too, BECAUSE I ate too fast... So I have to make sure that too many hours hasn't passed between meals... then I wont be starving, leading to eating too fast...

First of all, go back to your basics... Protein first, no drinking while eating, or 30 min afterwards, chew your food well, and most importantly... EXERCISE... change up your routine... sometimes that helps. Also, dont stress... this will keep you on a plateau.. I learned this the HARD way. I was dealing with a death in the family,(almost) divorce from my husband, kids issues, family issues, as well as job losses! this year has been quite the bumpy road for me, but I refocused myself, and got my determination back, and my butt back to the gym, & I am FINALLY breaking my plateau!! you can do it!!!

I too have hit a wall... I realized that I was falling into old habits... grabbing a SUGAR LADEN coffee drink, and not paying attention to my habits, and I started making excuses as to why I couldn't work out that day... I went for a fill 2 wks ago & my Dr. reminded me that these are life long changes... I need to do them for ME... so when I got home I decided to refocus... started eating healthy again, not to find the sweet spot but to give my body what it truly needs... and got on a bike & I have gone back to the gym.... finally I think I am breaking my plateau... 3 lbs down!!! yay for Small victories!!! You can do this!!!

I just hopped back on a bike recently after YEARS of not riding a bike... I was so big before that it was hard to ride, and I felt off balance... I grew up not far from the beach, & I used to ride to the beach in h.s.,which is 14 miles round trip! My husband & I recently moved back, so I decided to go for it... especially after this past year, I have been on a plateau... I am DETERMINED to break it... My first ride was 17 miles!!! I ride to the beach at least 4 days a week... It is a solitude, & gets my mind clear... I will overcome this plateau!

I was banded Jan. 2007..... I lost 120lbs, but I have gained 10 lbs back! I think that the stress of this year has gotten to me...In October 2008 my husband got laid off, 3 weeks later I got laid off, we had to uproot our family,to have to share a home with family, changing my kids school in the middle of the school year, & look for work... to no avail...THEN my husbands mother died suddenly in April 09...now begins the REAL TRIAL... Hubby & I fighting all the time,& the workouts ceased,& I found out that I have fibromyalgia, which explained the EXAHUSTION, which led to more snacking...UGH! the hubs FINALLY got a job, then got laid off again 5 weeks later! talk about STRESS!!!! I have been caring for my hubs grandparents since their dtr died, but it has become overwhelming... I let them know that they need to find someone else...I went for a fill a few months ago, but it hasnt helped much... I think it has become a mental thing now.. I need to get my diet back on track, rethink HOW I eat (chewing, slowing down, etc.) & get my butt back to the gym...I need to REFOCUS ON MYSELF!!! if there is anyone that is willing to be my buddy please contact me! (preferably a woman, since the hubs is so insecure rt now....) I think I just need the reminders.... -
Do you burp more now that you are banded? (non-productive, just air)
msmelc replied to dustout's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been burping for 2 1/2 years since I have gotten my band... it is like "burping" your tupperware... that is when I know I am full... -
OMG! This post has me in tears -cracking up @ all the stories! I can tell you ALL of these stories I have experienced!!! I have shrunk, my pants have grown extra inches, My butt has shrunk, so I have had to move my seat up... clothes out the door( i have started to shop @ thrift stores for the simple fact that buying new clothes is breaking the bank!) but saddest of all is that the "girls" are getting to know my KNEES not just my belly button!!! =0

Best way to kick start the weight lost when in a plateau!
msmelc replied to sweetie78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am a bit confused, How are we supposed to eat MORE csalories when our stomachs wont allow us to? isnt eating bvad what got alot of us here in the first place? I know that I was one of those people... I am at a plateau as well, but I am CONUSED by this. I jsut got my butt back to the gym, these last few months have been horrible... my mother-in-law died suddenly, I had a TERRIBLE bout with the flu( & NO not swine!) and midterms at school, but I am back on track... shouldnt this be enough? I got tightened as well... I think all this stress lately is getting to me too... -
has anyone gotten unfilled to give their band a "kick-start"?
msmelc posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I an 2 yrs- post-band... My Doc recomended that I unfill for a while so that I can give my stomach a rest, and since I hit a plateau for almost 4 months, I went with his recomendation. I havent lost, but i havent gained either...which is an accomplishment... for me... but my question is - Have any of you Banders out there done this?? -
has anyone gotten unfilled to give their band a "kick-start"?
msmelc replied to msmelc's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Monkey, To my understanding, by removing the fluid from the band it "rests" your stomach, and in a few months time, you go back & get a fill & it essentially is like getting a fill for the first time.. kinda like starting new?!? I hope that I am understanding & explaining this correctly. He also says that after 2 years, you should be well aware of how to eat, what not to eat, and that you should maintain your exercise regimine. If you are doing all of these things, like you HAVE the band in, then he conciders that TRUE success... I feel that he has a point in this, because your band should be a TOOL not a CRUTCH! I have a friend who got her band about the same time as I did, but she used her band as a crutch, instead of a tool, & it became a DISASTER!!! She ended up with a slip, and the doc removed it because he began to see bad obsessive signs...(ie. anorrexia, excessive time @ gym, etc)...go figure... over wt turned DANGEROUSLY THIN!!! It was scary... she still complains now because she says that I have "backup" but I have to remind her that it is a tool that I have to maintain!! I was just curious if anyone out there has had this done ... -
Need Help. Panniculectomy in 11 days...now not sure!
msmelc replied to lapitup's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
My dr. theory on that is that you cold loose more wt, which would defeat the purpose of the Pani... you might end up having to do another TT later on down the line. -
According to my Dr., he says that if you drink carbonated stuff, it streches out your stomach & causes you to eat more... I just made the choice to stay away from ALL carbonation, I didnt come this far & pay this much to mess up my hard work... Only my opinion... good luck in what ever you choose.

well i think i have always had the swelling problem, but i was too.. eeeehhh... FLUFFY shall we say, to realize that i was retaining fluids! but now tht my hands & feet & Stomach are of "somewhat normal" size... i SEE the swelling!!! i take a waterpill/Lasix during that time... just make sure you take some potassium... i.e. bananas, orange juice, meats, spinich... etc... so that you arent depleating your body... good luck!!!

thanks. i had my surgery there, they were fantastic, but i havent been down for a while, so i was just curious to see if things were REALLY as bad as the media states things are... i am aware of precautions...i go straight to the Dr. then to the bus depot...straight home... thanks for the advice on taking the yellow cab only though...i think everything will be fine. i REALLY need a tightening, i feel like i am not doing... well, i KNOW that losing over 100 lbs is such a BIG accomplishment, but i still have 50-60 lbs more to go....& right now i have been on a plateau...yikes... going to the gym still 5 days a week, but need that extra lil push!!!
