  1. Wow. That's so fabulous. We're likely a bit far apart to be workout buddies but it's good to know others in the area.

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

I haven't actually started my periods again yet. I asked about it at my last doctors visit and he said everyone is different and not to worry. At 48 I'd actually be just fine if it never comes back.

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

I'm one of the lucky? ones that never experienced problems with any kind of food. I'm definitely restricted but can easily eat anything. Consequently I find that I have to pay a lot of attention to mindless eating. I'm still happy where I am but realize it would be very easy to fall back into bad habits. I have made many good changes. I eat many more vegetables than I ever have before. Also I had frozen Greek yogurt last night instead of ice cream. I was able to eat a half cup and be happy. I also got 9 grams of protein. Too much sugar came with it as well but I still count it as a win.
  4. I'm 6 months out and live in Poway. I'm 48 and down to about 185 now. Where are you?

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

My entire experience has been one big stall. I'll seriously go four to six weeks with no more than 1 to 2 pounds lost then drop 4 pounds in a week. Overall I'm down 50 in 6 months but it's been an exercise in patience. I'm somewhat surprised how good I feel at 185. I'm not done yet but I'm finding it much harder to stay away from slider foods and stay motivated.

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

I was sleeved September 4th and have lost 35 pounds including 13 before surgery. I've been completely stalled for at least 2 weeks now and I'm trying not to obsess. I get my protein in and my calories are about 1000 per day but I am having a very hard time with fluids. I likely get 20 to 30 oz a day on average. I've never been able to drink much so this is a lot for me but not even half of where I should be. I also don't exercise. Need to start that.

    Stupid Carb Question.

My BMI is currently 39. The NUT goals are the general guidelines distributed from the UCSD bariatrics program. I don't have trouble at all staying within the fat guidelines, but I've busted the sugar every single day and I'm only getting 500 calories a day at the moment. As I said, it's a goal to work toward, and to each his own. Just thought I'd share for comparison purposes.

    Stupid Carb Question.

From my NUT I should aim for the following after week 3 (weeks 3 and 4 are purees): 1000-1200 calories 20 grams fat 60-80 grams Protein 150-180 grams carbs 25 grams fiber 25 grams or less sugar
  10. Two premier protein shakes would give you 60 grams of protein for 320 calories so it's possible. It's much harder using just food. I haven't figured that out yet and struggle to get more than 30 grams of protein a day without the shakes.

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

The stuck feeling is terrible. It lasted about two weeks for me. The doctor promised it was just swelling and it was. He advised me to just go slow and stick with full liquids until the pain subsided and it worked. No more pain and no more stuck feeling unless I eat too much. I've discovered a strong fondness for Vienna sausages. They are a bit high in sodium but have 5 grams of protein in 3 sausages so that's something. They are really soft and grind to purée in your mouth easily. Yum. I'm starting to feel normal again. At least a bit. Lunchtime at work is hard. I was always the one people could count on to go out with them. I'm on purees the rest of this week then on to soft foods so eating out is pretty challenging. I did find an Italian restaurant that puréed a cup of their lentil soup for me. Heaven. Lunch =$3, tip =$5. Still the cheapest lunch ever.

    Endoscopy And Colonoscopy Fearful

I've had both and was similarly nervous. Both procedures were really easy. I remember bits and pieces but no pain or discomfort at all. It was actually a good experience. The worst part for me was a three day clear liquid diet followed by a bowel prep liquid. That was unpleasant.

    Cream Of Wheat

My doctor considers Cream of Wheat a pureed food so I was allowed it after 14 days. You should have received specific instructions from your surgeon and NUT and should follow those instructions.
  14. I had clear liquids for 4 days, with full liquids days 5-14.

    Sleevers With Small Kids

I'd give it at least two weeks to watch her. It should be at least 6 weeks to pick her up.

    San Diego Dr's?

I'm also local to San Diego but used Dr Jacobsen at UCSD. I had a good experience and was sleeved Sept 4th. On puréed food now. Yay.

    Struggling With Guilt

I just told my boss I needed time off. I did say I was having surgery but gave no details. No one asked at work either. If they did I would just be vague and change the subject. It's no one's business unless you want it to be.
  18. Mine started right after surgery and it was a bit of a struggle to reach the places that need to be reached for cleaning and tampon insertion. Very difficult. A pad would be better.
  19. I'm on day 13 post surgery and for the last week my blood sugars have been amazing - my highest value was 128. I'm off all diabetes medications at this time. I'm hoping so much that this continues when I'm eating more than 400 calories a day. I'd love to hear your experience with the sleeve and how it's impacted diabetes. I'm so nervous that this is only a reprieve and not permanent. Resolving my blood sugar problems was a very major reason I had this surgery so I'm really hoping the change is permanent. I'm Down 21 pounds which is great but irrelevant for diabetes resolution. It has to be the surgery. Right?

    Diabetes

Yes, I took all my medications through my 3 week pre-op diet.

    Incisions

Same here as well. I was also sleeved Sept 4th. The indent makes me crazy.

    Shake Recommendations

I've only tried a few but so far the premier shakes are the best. I only like the chocolate though. Vanilla and strawberry taste too sweet for me.

    Drain

I had one for a week with no issues. I was also glad to know I wasn't piling up those nasty fluids in my body.
  24. If you're newly sleeved it could be due to swelling. Be patient and it will get better.
