I had surgery 7/31... My doc says liquid for 21days ... I have been trying different soups like butternut squash and Thai coconut tomato. Also had cream of chicken but had to strain out the bits and my yummy nectar protein shakes (holding sarcasm sign)

The glue usually falls off on it's own in 2-3 weeks. Same with the steristrips.

You are not supposed to use hydrogen peroxide on healing wounds because it will kill the new healthy cells that are so important. A little puss is normal and does not mean it is infected. If it gets really red and hot and the diameter gets larger then it may be infected and you should call your doc. They don't like you using neosporin unless they say either.

How about decaf tea

I was sleeved on the 31st and also have experience from a previous hernia surgery. I also feel better the first couple of days and then the second week seems harder. They say it is because of the internal healing going on. I am still taking pain meds too, but have cut the dose to half. Just enough to take the edge off so I feel like getting up and walking. When I had my hernia surgery I think I was completely off meds at 2 weeks... Fyi I have also had 3 c sections and never took pain meds after the second day.

So glad to hear that they were able to get you sleeved. I was thinking about you all week. I was sleeved on the 31st. No complications, but I too was surprised at how much pain I was in when I woke up too. I thought maybe they had forgotten to give me pain meds before they woke me up. I was also very nauseated which is very rare for me. It is all getting better each day though... Walking does really help the shoulder pain and I feel I can get more fluids in when I stand up. I keep trying to go without the pain meds, but then I don't feel like walking so just taking smaller doses so I feel like getting up and walking around. Hope you continue to improve too!

Wondering how you are doing after your second surgery date?

I don't have insurance and will be a self pay for my sleeve. Has anyone had problems getting insurance after wls?

Does anyone out there that had Dr. Nick know if he offers a waist binder. I asked at his office today and the lady said she thought you can request one.

It was mentioned that we all got here by making bad choices to the point we need major surgery to regain control.... So we all have this in common ... The odd part is that we all seem to have something else in common.... we all had at one point or another an addiction to carbonated beverages... It might be worth noting.....connection??? My surgeon said the quickest way to reverse your surgery is carbonation and he recommends never having it again.... personally im not going to risk it. It is the only thing he says you should never have again. I just mentally picture a skull and crossbones on it and it keeps me from wanting it

I am finally getting used to the taste of the shakes after 9 says but I still feel tired and a bit weak. But my current issue is terrible gas. Is anyone else having this issue?

I bought mine from my Dr. but I hear they have some good ones at Sam's and Costco. I get 2 shakes and 3 protein bars a day and then one meal of 5oz meat and 2 cups veggies.

Some Dr.s don't require a pre-op diet. Mine did not give me my info until the surgery date date was set though. Even if yours does not have you do one, many will recommend it. The main goal is to shrink your liver before surgery, but is also good to help you start changing some habits before surgery too.

The shame should be to those who don't take advantage of opportunities like wls surgery. I am thankful that this tool is available. My mother passed away last Oct and she had struggled with obesity her entire life. I know if she had been able to take advantage of a tool like wls surgery years ago she would have been healthier and still be here today to enjoy her grand children. I have realized that it takes a lot of courage to take this giant step toward healthier living and it causes some amount of doubt, fear and shame in all of us.... But would you be ashamed to get chemo for cancer.... Probably not... But it is what is recommended to cure the cancer and wls is what is recommended to cure your food addiction.

I have been considering wls for while. My husband is self employed and we have not had insurance for a while. We have finally caught up on everything and so I went through the very long process to apply for insurance through BCBS of TX for us and our 4 kids. I knew they would not cover the wls and planned to self pay but wanted to have the insurance in case of complications. Once everything was submitted to underwriting I started the process for gastric sleeve, met with the Dr and set a date for July 31st. Then the next week was notified by insurance that I was denied coverage because of the meds I take for water retention. It does not make sense to me why they denied me but my agent said I can appeal the decision and re-apply. I have decided to just wait until after surgery and trust God and move forward my plans for surgery without insurance. Does anyone know how long I will need to wait after surgery until it would be good for me to re-apply for insurance?
