    Coffee

I had surgery on Sept. 6th and was told at my 4 wk. appt. that it was OK to have some decaf. coffee. I have been having a cup every morning for the past week and have had no problems.

    I Find It Odd

I had surgery on Sept 6th and did one week of liquids followed by a week of pureed (and then pushed through a strainer) foods. On the third week I was allowed to go on a soft food diet and to chew 20xs so that the food was liquified before I swallowed. I am eatting mainly fish, eggs and chicken, haven't tried pork or beef for my proteins. I was told to avoid breads, rice and pasta until I was about 4 mos. out because of their "doughiness". I am also holding off on raw greens until then.
  5. I am having a nasty allergic reaction to something. As the title states I have hives, a rash and terribly swollen lips and swollen face. I have only had 3 things that I had never had before surgery Lifewater by Sobe, the artifical sweetner xylitol and protein drink mixes. I really don't think it is the protein because I have been drinking it for almost 3 wks without a prblm. I am leaning toward the xylitol since I had been putting a tsp. in my morning tea for the past 4 days and on Sun. had 3 cups through out the day. My question is has anyone else expierienced a reaction to the xylitol? Has anyone has an issue with the protein mixes?

    Hives, Rash And Swollen Lips

I called the surgeons office to ask if I could take liquid benadryl. I did take it for one day and I continued to get worse. My primary was out of her office the last 2 days (vacation) so I called my sister who is a PA and her husband is a physician. She told me to get some Calritin and to also take the Benadryl. She also told me that if I noticed any change for the worse to get to the ER or an Urgentcare and that I would probably need Prednisone. The swelling has gone down a bit and I am hoping it will continue to do so. I was just wondering if any one had ever had an allergic reaction to either the Protein mixes or to Xylitol.

    Getting Drainage Tube Removed

I had my drain removed on the 18th. It had been in for 2 wks. The few stitches that were holding it in place stung for a second when they were removing them but I felt nothing when the tube itself was being removed.
  8. I am 2 1/2 wks. post op and feel fine. I never felt any pain or discomfort from the surgery (except for an adverse reaction to the anesthesia and an allergy to the adhesive on the paper tape they used around the dressing for my drain.). I couldn't drink an oz. every 15 min. when I got home but can now drink with no problem, I am eatting pureed foods now and can do about 1/4 c sometimes a little less imagine that will increase over time. I am walking 1 1/2 miles a day and can't wait to get back to work. Except for the bruising on my stomach (and the inability to eat much) it is hard to believe that I had surgery. I hope all goes well with you.
  9. Hi everyone, I had my surgery on the 6th and am going to have my drain removed tomorrow. I was ill from the anesthesia after surgery which was terrible but had very little pain and except for once,, on the first night never used anything stronger then tylenol. I have dressings around the drain tube and have developed an allergy (a rash that burns and stings)to the adhesive on the paper tape I was given, so I quickly started using a different tape. I am so SICK of liquids! I am getting down 4 oz every hr. as the Dr. wanted and find myself FULL. I start the pureed stage tomorrow (pureed and strained for 1 week). I have never been a worry wart but am constantly worried that I will do something wrong.
  10. You looking good and I love the attitude in the last pic.

    Tall Sleevers? 6'?

I hope that you are feeling better today. I've been thinking about you.
  12. Had surgery on the 6th and woke up with a drain in my stomach. No complications during surgery and leak test was good. I left the hospital on the 8th and was told that the drain would be slowing considerably within the next 2 days by a nurse. Well, here it is th evening of the 10th and I am emptying as much blood as I did on day 1. Is this normal? I go to the drs. on the 12th the day said drain is supposed to be removed and I don't see that happening at this point. My question is has anyone expierienced a similar issue? Is this a sign of a . problem? I can't find any info that covers this on VST...thanks.

    Drain After Surgery?

Truthfully, I might be a bit naive but I don't think this is an issue to be concerned with. I guess I am just curious as to why it isn't slowing (slower healing process?) and was hoping fo some insight before going to the Drs. I feel good and my tummy, aside from a little gas, feels fine. I will learn more tomorrow.

    Tall Sleevers? 6'?

Good Luck Rainhaiter, I had my surgery on the 6th and I feel preety good today, I even walked a mile BUT I am only able to get in 2oz. of liquid an hour not the 4 they want me to get to.
  15. Surgery went well but I woke up in recovery retching from the anesthesia and continued doing so for 30 hrs. The first night I did have some morphine but requested only tylenol (periodically) after that. I never felt pain in my stomach area it was more in my shoulders and back and I believe that was from all of the retching I was doing. Home yesterday and I am trying to drink an oz. an hr. but am finding it damn near impossible to do. I know all will improve with time I just want to not feel STUFFED on an oz. of liquid ughh!

    Tall Sleevers? 6'?

I too am a tall goddess. Iposted somewhere yesterday that the Dr.s office measured me at 6ft. but that I had always been 5'11'' and that is what I am sticking with. At my heaviest I was 388 lbs. and wearing elastic waisted 30/32 pants (Couldn't fit into anything marked that size from Walmart though.) and was into a 34/36 shirt, my shoe size is a 9 1/2 wide. I started losing and according to my scale this morn I am now at 292. Right now I am wearing elastic waisted 26/28 and some of these are way to loose as for shirts I am a 26/28 also. I am scheduled for surgery on Sept. 6th. and have been curious as to what my sizes will be along the way. This awesome thread gives me a "barometer" to gauge it by thanks I too am worried about how much loss will be too much. My sister is a couple inches shorter then I am and is a jogger/marathon runner and though she is physically fit and healthy she has no figure to her. I want to still have curves I just want them to be more hourglass and not so my "lumpy". I have been walking 2 1/2 -3 miles 5 days a week and have started working with a 3 lb weight to help start toning. I am 51 and have an idea that my skin probably won't rebound as if I were younger but I will try to get it to not be as bad as it could.(understand?).

    Surgery In The Morning!

As I write this you have already been in surgery. Hope you heal fast and that you enjoy the new you!
  18. I too am tall. The Drs. office recorded 6 ft. but I was always 5'11" before. I am having surgery on 9-6 and have set a goal of 190 lbs. for myself. I started at 388 and am now at 291 pre surgery. When I went below 300 I was doing the happy dance! I can't wait to go below 250 now and I hope we can celebrate each others successes.
  19. WOW!! Congratulations on your weight loss.

    Encouraging Myself

You look FAN-TAS-TIC, you are one pretty lady! Do not beat yourself up over a .6 weight gain, you know that as soon as you are able to get up and move you will continue to lose. There will be times in all of our lives where we won't be able to exercise for whatever reason but as long as we get back at it as soon as possible all will be well. I have never had any previous bariatric surgery but have lost large amount of weight before only to gain it right back so I kind of know where you have been and the fear that you have. I just have to believe that we learn from our mistakes and that everyone has battles they are struggling with in their lives it is just that those of us with weight issues have a very visible struggle and it is easier for people to judge us then to look within themselves and face their own weaknesses/failures.

    Who Are You?

Hi! I am 51 and have been married to my hubby for 25 yrs. We have two sons (21 and 22) who make me proud to be their Mom. I work as a teachers aide and enjoy drawing, painting and doing crafts in my spare time. my friends call me hyper-creative I only wish my legs moved 1/2 as fast as my brain does! lol. I have struggled with my weight my entire life but tried to never let it define me. I played ball with the kids, hiked with my hubby and shopped with friends. I was large but...living. Don't get me wrong I would try to lose and would sometimes lose weight just to gain it and more back. Then about 2 yrs ago it got out of control. I became diabetic, got high blood pressure, my joints ACHED and I found myself avoiding social activities because I knew I wouldn't be able to wholey participate. I felt like I was existing and not living, that I would die WAY TO SOON if I didn't make a change. So here I am ready to live again. Woo-Hoo!!! I plan on living the rest of my life to the fullest!
  22. I am scheduled for Sept 6th and the Dr. has me on 3 wks. of phase 1 of the South Beach Diet. I am SO THANKFUL that it wasn't a liquid diet for that period of time.
  23. I too am scheduled for Sept. 6th. I am not nervous (yet) more of a "bring it on" attitude. I am 51 yr old but have lost 91 lbs. on my own so far and feel younger then I have in yrs. I am hoping that as I continue to lose I will continue feeling younger and healthier. I have chosen to be somewhat open about my decsion to have surgery. My close friends and relatives are aware and fully supportive. I have always had a strong personality and like to face things head on so when I run into someone I will mention that I decided to have surgery to use as a tool to assist me with the rest of my journey. I kind of figure that in a short period of time the rumor mills will be at work and that if I talk about my choice there will be less people gossiping and maybe my progress will help someone else make a choice to better themselves in whatever way that may be.
  24. I am having my surgery on Sept. 6th. when I initially went to a dr. I went to a satelitte for the surgeon in the county I live in (about 75 + miles from hospital). I weighed 388 lbs. I was told to follow the South Beach Diet and that was the last time I was weighed in or saw a Dr. for 6 mos. I myself went and got the psych eval when I learned my ins. required one but by that time I was 4 mos in and also learned that I needed monthly weigh ins with my PCP. oops I continued dieting and called the surgeons office and was given an appt to see him. That day was 5 mos. after my initial weigh in and I had lost 80lbs. My ins comp. waived the 6 mos weigh ins since I had wrote down everything I had ate and proved that I could lose weight and follow a plan. t has been a month since that weigh in and I know I have lost another 8lbs. So keep positive and talk to your surgeon!
